The customer service is horrible. They never help, but rather give an excuse on why they cant help you. They contradict the devs all the time. They actually refuse to give out the official number for Sony if you ask for it.
Items go missing from your house and bank account for hours because of lag. This is my major problem as a crafter... resources go *poof* and I cant do anything for a few hours.
The devs ignore all the issues that the players are concerned about and continue nerfing proffessions that are perfectly fine, as well as other little things. They also cater to the Jedi prof... Not what actual in-game jedi players want, but what will sound good to people looking at a sales pitch.
Then the devs only communicate through forums (and mostly only the Jedi forum). If you dont participate in forums, you're screwed. If you do, you get attacked by other players. They are the most volatile forums ever, and the moderators are like the CSR's... They delete threads with official Sony numbers that are within guidelines and ignore threads where people are cussing at each other.
In-game, most of the people are going for Jedi. This is a problem because most of the Jedi's dont act like Jedis, but like immature 10 year olds enjoying the fact that they can whip out a lightsaber and kill mean things. I see more Jedi running around starports dueling people than doing anything productive and inline with their profession. Understandable for Dark jedi, maybe, but thats not the case. I love the idea of Jedi in the Star Wars Movies. I have only met one Jedi in game that even somewhat resembled that ideal. The rest? Complete power-grabbing @$$holes.
The social structure in general is pretty horrible. People argue left and right. Some guy didnt know a pet had to be grown before it could be a mount when he bought it from my vendor... He sends me 10 emails saying how I screwed him, I'm a f'ing lying b*tch, etc etc. Did he ask any questions before buying it? No. I wasnt even online. He ran across my vendor and bought something without knowing what he was buying, and yells at me when its not exactly what he thought. I run into people like this ALL the time.
The only good thing I have to say about it is that I love my profession (bio-engineer). But, its lined up to be nerfed, so I am pretty sure when it goes down the drain, my account will too.
BTW, I dont know exactly what my computer is, but my bf built it, and he makes top of the line gaming PCs. I know mine is equivalent to his except that he has 2 gigs and I only have like 1 or 1.5 or something. And on his computer he still has lag. Though, some servers arent as bad I hear, bc they arent as populated. But Ahazi is horrific.
Also, the new "quest based" jedi system has a total of 6 quests to unlock Jedi. The rest is grinding exp to convert to force sensitive exp. Thats 3 months and only 6 quests. The quest for phase one force sensitive combat takes about an hour and is just about as mindless as grinding (you have to visit 100 waypoints as a patrol)
I have played this game daily for the last 6 months and I love it. The feel of is is amazing. And I will miss it now that I am leaving it, and I will tell you why in a minute.
I am not a grinder, but a true role player who tries to stay realistic within the confines of the game. I found the constant grinders trying to "finish" the game to be the biggest drag! I love trying all the roles and had characters in multiple galaxies doing different things. There is a depth here that can take a long time to plumb, if you aren't in a big hurry to "win"!! ***wonders how you win a roleplaying game*** I loved being a warrior, a ranger, a creature handler and a bounty hunter. But my real love in the game was being an artisan. I loved mastering crafting profession, without grinding mind you!! I loved being a merchant, keeping track of what people wanted and keeping my vendors stocked. I will miss that the most.
Why am I leaving? It costs too much and my husband and I can't afford it anymore. And we feel angry that the expansions they are doing on the game require us to buy an new game, which we can't afford. Also the jedi revamp made being a jedi cheap and easy. Every 13 year old in the galaxy will be a jedi, it isn't special or rare. There is no honor in the jedi system, never was.
So I am looking for a new game. One I can afford to play the will give me the joy that SWG has given. I have my doubts I will find it since MONEY is our god and you must serve it to do anything in this world.
First of all AdmRiker444, you are attempting to respond to posts I made aimed not at you, but at another poster named Starman999. You are attempting to respond for him, which cannot be done because it is his own words, his own quotes, that I was quoting and responding to. So some/most of my posts are irrelivant to you.....
Umm, wrong this game isnt casual player friendly. It will take someone months to aquire the uber resources to become an effective crafter. Plus many months of grinding for the end-game item... Jedi
Resources are NOT static. Thus both veteran and new players have the exact same chance of finding elite level resources. A new player in his or her first day playing SWG can instantly find elite level resources. They do roughly 5 missions, train to be medic/[pick a fighting profession here]/and then miner or surveyor. Then they PM any veteran merchant, crafter, archetect, etc... and ask them what resources are they looking for, what stats are best.
Then they get them. It will take roughly 8 to 16 hours. Then they visit the veteran player, deliver the resources, get paid, then they can buy a harvester. The new player is already expanding, accomplishing something. In 1 week they will be able to move up to heavy duty harvestors, or use other machines. They are making serious credits ( 100,000 to 1 million!). All of this done in a few days to 1 week. By week 2 they are set. During this entire time they will have to run from just about every monster, and/or watch their radar closely. But their goal is collecting elite level resources - not slaying monsters, or killing Rebels/Imperials....yet.
During this entire time there is no camping of resources, will be no camping of resources. Because SWG is a zoneless game, and all resources constantly shift. Getting results in a few days, to 1 week, to 2 weeks (of playing 1-3 hours each session) IS casual player friendly.
New players should NOT make it their goal to become jedi. It is like starting EQ as a new player with the goal of getting 300 AA points. It is not something a new player should be thinking about.
ALL MMORPGs veteran players will complain about little, not much, or lack of high end content. But you said "there is no high end content". That is 100% F-A-L-S-E. SWG does indeed have high end content. Nowhere as much as EQ, or AC have. But it does have some.
Again, wrong Explorer. Are you sure you played the same game I did ? What high-end content are you seeing ? The only so-called high end content is Corellian Corvette and the DeathWatch Bunker... two dungeons requiring groups is hardly what I'd consider a lot of content.
Then please tell me what you would consider to be "a lot of High End content"? How much? In SWG:
1. No matter how much of a veteran a player is, monsters slightly below their skill, on par with their skill, and slightly above their skill, constantly and dynamically spawn around them no matter where they go.
2. There are planets that are harder than others. The planets that are the hardest are prime examples of many high level content. Litterally many, many, monsters, and NPCs.
3. Guess what? High Level content is not the stereotypical "There must be uber-level monsters". High Level content in SWG also includes.... successfully forming, and running a PA. Successfully forming and running a Player City. Successfully forming, and running a Merchant buisness.
4. Successfully checking out each one of the 30+ professions. In real life if you choose to wear black leather cloths all the time, every time, it is your choice. Others will choose to wear other styles, colors, materials, different days. Some players try playing SWG only as Imperial PvP. Or only as Rebel PvP. They do not try to explore the rest of the 80% of the game features - seeing what it is like to play as the many other different professions.
[This is like someone in EQ playing only as an Elf Paladin and making it to high level then complaining. Yeah? How about trying to play EQ as an Ogre Shadowknight? It puts a HUGE and different spin on the game. As well as checking out EQ from the other 10+ different professions!]
As for the theme parks, they are not "little generic quests". The missions from the mission terminals are "little generic quests". The theme parks will take a casual gamer roughly 1 week to 1 month to fully finnish. SWG has also added new quests/content targeted at higher end players (like the Corellian Corvette, etc...) The game is still young, still brand new, just barely 1 year old.
Once again wrong... they are generic quests. Go out kill something or deliver something or escort something, boring. Your time is wayyy off too. There are 4 theme parks, Nyms can be done in an hr... Imperial can be done in less than 3... Jabba's less than 3... only the rebel theme park takes longer but still can be done in roughly 3-4 buff sessions (9-12 hrs). Besides the Badges, they are hardly worth the time and effort. Woopie, your reward items are uniforms for display, some faction armor, junky weapons, and a Banner.
You are incorrect, there are more than 4 theme parks. Some take exploring the game to find. (Back to what I said about how playing any game with just 1 playstyle limits one's game experience.) I do agree the Theme Parks, and static quests need more content. Like I said - SWG is a solid 1 year old, it does not have as much content as 5+ year old EQ and AC.
Next, for a casual player, even those Theme Parks you mentioned will take far, far, far, longer than what you said. It is casual players that SWG was intended for. It is casual players that we must talk about the time for.
mining almost immediately and make hundreds of thousand of credits a week with little effort. Run some delivery missions to get started, buy a few medium fusions, and within 2 weeks you'll own 8 fusion plants pulling down 500k units a week that you can sell for 750k credits. Money is the easiest part of the game.
[This directly concernts the original poster, not you.] It was he that first claimed money in SWG has no value - NOT you. You are attempting to respond for him. I pointed out that the subject of this here thread is a new player starting out in SWG right now. For a NEW player in SWG money does have value. Someone playing SWG 1-3 hours a session, each day will take longer than 2 weeks to have a high level mining operation going. 1 month at least.
Next you claim SWG is NOT a casual player friendly game. Right here in this quote of yours, you post how easy it is for a player to make money in SWG. Which is it going to be? if it is easy to make money - then that is further proof of how casual player friendly SWG is.
What game are you playing ??? Last time I checked every single ranged profession wore composite armor, every one of them. With the exception of a few melee prof who wore Ubese, almost all players wear composite. Yes there are lots of different items of armor and clothing and weapons but nobody will choose to wear them since they suck. And yes there is a best armor, composite always has stats of 80-90% resists, ubese is next topping out at 75% kinetic but energy resists suck so composite is alwas best. This is common knowledge here, not sure what game you play.
[This directly concernts the original poster I was responding to, not you. Since it is his own quotes I am calling him out on.] HE first said "There is NO variety of items." In which he is 1 million % false. NOW you want to talk only about armor? Make a new thread "SWG sucks because there is no variety in armor!"..... and let the original poster himself respond in this here tread to my reply to him claiming SWG has NO variety of items.
with the armor and buffs and food there is no reason to group. A buffed armored dancer or chef can easily take on 4 rancors without breaking a sweat.
*ahem* you quoted this part of my post, but failed to rebuff it with any points? [Ahh that's right, because this was never your quote AdmRiker444, you are attempting to respond for someone else.] I am sure even you know that SWG allows 3 1/2 professions to be learned by each character. Why not come out and support if I am right or wrong in stating this as the real reason why it looks like a chef, dancer, aka seemingly non-combat profession appears to be able to take on high level monsters? To the original poster I was responding to.... At least come out and say -
1. You failed to post that SWG is the only MMORPG that allows each player character to learn 3 1/2 professions.
2. That you were wrong that it is not just a Dancer or just a Chef who is taking on high level monsters.
Guess what? SWG is a MMORPG. If a player does not like to group, the company cannot force them to group. In SWG's corner is this:
C'mon, everyone knows grouping used to be fun and a big part of SWG. Buffs started and armor layers were fixed so grouping went away. Buffs and armor are too good and need balancing.
The buffing mechanics still needs work on. That is one of the nature of being a MMORPG - things constantly change, and will keep on being constantly changed. IF enough players dislike the new buff system, post suggestions on how to make it better at the official SWG forums. Post new petition threads and ask as many agreeing players to sign it.
If you like to group, then group! If you are having trouble finding a group then *drumroll* join a Player Association (PA) aka a guild/clan/organization etc. YOU have to make the first move. The game does not force players to group. If players group it is because they want to, not because they have to.
Again, what game are you playing ? When was the last time you heard " group looking for elite combat types to raid Tusken Fort." ??? Last time I heard that was in September 2003. All you'll hear now is "solo group looking for members" Sure one can still group up but it rarely happens.
[Again, you are attempting to respond for someone else. The poster I was responding to said there is no reason in SWG to group. If that were 100% true, then one would see absolutly no groups in the game. If there really was no reason to group, then there should be no groups at all seen anywere.....because players would never do something if there is absolutly no reason to do it.][Let the poster himself respond or not, to his claim that there is no reason to group in SWG.] I also basically supported what he said when I said that SWG does not force players to group. In EQ there is a reason to group, because the game is impossible to play without being in a group (Main reason many EQ players have 4 or 8 seperate accounts). SWG intended that players not be forced to group. Again, back to it being a more casual player friendly game. Compare to EQ in which if a casual player cannot find a group that will accept him or her, they must log off.
Did you even PLAY SWG? I am calling into question if you have even played this game. When was the last time you played SWG? For how long? On what server? Were you a member of any PA? Which PA? What name do you post under in the official SWG forums?
Im thinking the same thing of you. No wonder you're so devoted to SWG... you cant see straight.
[Right here it is blatantly obvious that you have no buisness posting a reply. My post was obviously not intended for you, nor intended for you to reply to. It was intended for Starman999 to reply to - which he has not yet done. He has not yet answered this most important question on his own.]
5. everyone wants to be a jedi so nobody is playing the game anymore they are all grinding jedi and will be for the next 8 months.
100% F-A-L-S-E. Not everyone wants to be a Jedi. I do not. Neither does my PA. Or 1 other PA I have a character in. There ARE players who enjoy playing the 30+ other professions in SWG. Are there players who want to be Jedi? Yes. Just like there are players who have no intrest in being Jedi and are not activly seeking to be Jedi.
What planet are you from Explorer ??? Of course most want jedi. Why else did 95% of players do the holo grind ??? Why else would SOE go against the timeline and allow players the chance to become one. SOE itself said demand for jedi was so high they decided to say the heck with the timeline. Everyone wants jedi, maybe not soley for combat purposes but at least so they can get that 2nd slot for another character.
[*sigh* Please re-read your quote... oh wait, it is NOT your quote I was responding to! It was Starman999's quote. In which he said "EVERYONE wants to be a Jedi". Again, why are you attempting to respond for someone else? You have no buisness trying to respond for someone else, because it was never your own quote that brought up the issue.]
BTW, thank you for supporting me by saying "Most.... want to be Jedi". Which goes against what he said "Everyone wants to be Jedi".
If you personally want to talk about Jedi, post about it in your own thread.
The game is in the worst shape its ever been now.
Its a sinking ship......dont get on board. if you are a star wars fan turn back now or be forever dissapointed.
It is not in its worse shape ever. That is your opinion vs the opinions of the 300,000+ SWG players who have voted with their wallets and purses. And if one is a Star Was fan, a better idea is that they wait until after the Space Expansion releases, then SWG will have a far more Star Wars feel and look.
Quoting numbers from SOE is kinda dumb. SWG subscribers peaked back in October 03 at 295k and has been dropping ever since. Someone on this site posted a graph showing this.
[Again, let the guy respond himself. It is his own quote I was responding to, NOT a quote by you.] If you want to believe SWG peaked at exactly 295,000 subscribers (LOL, just could not make another 5,000 subscribers after non-stop growth? How convienent(sp) of you to show SWG extreemly close to 300k but unable to make it past. The fact that you are attempting to post numbers after you yourself say posting numbers is meaningless aka "dumb" makes any numbers you post moot since you think all numbers are dumb. I am waiting for HIM to post his sources that show SWG is in worse shape than ever. (So that I can then come back and post my sources hehehe. )
I think the problem is Xplorer is you see content where most people wouldn't see any. Its great that you think SWG is a great game, but to be honest (in my experience) i have not seen many people like you. I think SWG is dieing off, good game or not, and that is a problem because it will be hard to play the game down the road with so many people leaving the game
I, for one thing, love the game. I'm not new to MMORPG scene, I've been playing since UO 2 dawn. But I also have a life, and can no longer dedicate most of my free time to MMOs. In this regard, SWG is the greatest. I can pop in, make VISIBLE advancement, in seven hours a week. Now what other game offers that? And compared to other games out there that I've played.... SWG is not bad at all. Sure it ain't AO...
Right now , I would say do not play it, I just cancelled all my accounts in SWG. Untill they fix some major bugs the game isnt worth spending money on.
I have played the game for about 8 month now, been through a variety of patches and bugs. yes , I wanted to see about trying to make jedi. Well the box says you can become a jedi.... but now in pub 10 , we cannot be removed from the BH terminals , open griefing on jedi , devs are not responding at all , posting incorrect info about things, In game CSRs have no clue.
So many planets but pretty much same models , just differnt name. Many areas on the planet are barren of any creature , most creatures spawn around no more then 3000 meters from outposts , then in the middle of nowhere you can go thousands of meters and no spawns.
Recently my PA has lost 75 people quitting from the mistreatment that SoE has given the player base.
Player cities are ghost towns more or less....GCW is non exisitant( if you dont know what GCW is galatic civil war) . Money is all over the game people can aqquire it easily the newest patch also added more degrade to items. Then now if you have a calss that provides services i,.e. armorsmith you will get even more richer. Last week alone I have sold over 300 suits of armor....
Thing is I grinded AS as i went hunting, I started with nothing , and easily made enough to buy harvesters and power i needed to get resoruces to grind armorsmith. Then once I waited for what I needed I then became one of hte top producers of Comp and Padded armor. Now I make millions and millions a week.
The Force sensitive mission have increased my sales to point its almost hard to keep any armor instock. With the endless grind of the FS skills more money is being introduced to the economy. People are buying crates of grenades for 60k credits which normally sell for 10k . I had a full suit of padded on my home vendor that I was just using to store my personal stuff....someone came and bought the full suit for 500k and I sold all 3 that I had in backpacks...
When I grinded the FS quest i only had one branch to go, In that time I made nearly 12 million credits in the first week after pub 10 came out. This was just doing missions... not including my armor sales
Now places that are suppose to be hard i.e. Corvette peopel can run through ninja loot everything and come out with beserker rifle schematic, av-21 power plants , beserker rifle barrels. I use to run throug hthe vette with my Smuggler loot about at least 1 or so power plants at least a day some times getting like 6 to 10 power plants in a days time If I kept getting vette tickets.
With my smuggler I have made it almost all the way down to the crafting area of the DWB , by myself.
So the state of the game is in shambles the numbers that have been given i dont believe.
I remember when i looked at the galaxy list and use to say medium traffic and such...... now all of them say light.. that has to tell you something .

Your not the only one, My weapon smith has gained a extra 100k a day now because of the FS missions. Since everyone is grinding ethier BH or whatever profession, they're going through weapons very fast. just last week I had 40 Rebuplic blasters and within 1 day they were all sold. Also, I had some weapons for display up on my wall and a few players came in while I was on to purchase them.

Ah ha! said the blind man! The same is not true of my architect/tailor! My sales have dropped off considerably and I haven't been able to figure out why. I didn't put it together until I read your posts - people don't need houses and furniture and clothes to grind exp for FS conversion. The game has gone topsy turvy over this, its ruined. Oh well, my preordered sims2 disk came last week so I guess I will play offline for a while - unless I win one of those EQII beta spots, hehe. Good luck to all.
I got 16 factories running right now putting out armor with thei increased in item decay..... this is crazy. I cancelled my 5 accounts but since they are paid up might as well. Since it doesnt take me long to make schematic and put them into the factories.. plus heh if I ever intend to sell these accounts on ebay i will have plenty of coin .
Yeah my friend is an architect and said the same thing, The crafters are getting hosed in the FS quest part..... the amount of crafting you have to do to transfer to FS xp is insane and we are the only ones who has to pay for their xp the combat type can do missions make money to pay for weapons and armor . We have to do crafting either in practice mode and harvest our own resources or buy which will raise pirce up even more..........
For who ever is reading this the game is on life support atm....with the anticpation of JTL..... but Truely doubt the game will live much longer after it is released.
lol, I like that saying "the game is on life support"
Really, let's be serious here. I loved playing X wing Vs Tie Fighter and I did play it for about 2 months until I got bored or just got tired of beating it to death. Do you really think that JTL is going to save SWG? I really don't think so. My guild cares about the ground layer more than the space layer and they want the ground before space. SOE claims that the CGW revamp won't be out until sometime next year... please... don't get my hopes up. After being in the village and reading all that rushed content I really don't think they have the know how to create decent content, period. It would be nice if they would take all that time that they invested in the space layer and put it into the ground layer. It's going to take alot more than a wish list to repair the damage that has been done to SWG.
