It honestly puzzles me why anyone would want to play Eve for the PvE, unless you really love economies.

All I know is that EVE will finally have the one key MMO feature it lacked. 12 year old kids jumping around on top of stuff in the station atrium.
I know that thought crossed my mind too
The silly thing is that EVE doesnt need humanoid avatars in it. Its just catering to all the people that cant get over the fact that EVE isnt like all of the other mmos they are used to.
I wanna see my little man and dress him up in clothes and give him a pew pew laser gun! I dont wanna be a ship mwwaaaaahhhhh!!!! All the other mmos let you do that so get stuffed!!!! Why does EVE have to try and be like all the other crappy mmos? Who cares if other players want it? Those same "other players" probably want to have levels, raid dungeons, end of level bosses, epic gear and cutesy stories in it too.......are the devs gonna add all of that shit into the game as well?
Having players being able to run their little action man figures around on a generic space station isnt going to add anything to the game at all.......apart from a bit of visual fluff so those players can pretend to roleplay. Oh god I bet they add dance emotes too. Oh what fun. Then everyone can just dance round the stations thinking they are being really funny! "Oh gee look at me dancing! Laugh at me everyone! I'm such a clown! Woohoo yeah I know how to have fun!"
Thankfully I wont see any of it though as I will be busy playing the game and flying around in my spaceship which is what EVE is about.
funny, you and the other guy complain about little children in MMORPGs, yet you act as them....
Having the Station Enivorment may be fun for a weeks, but, then, it will become mundane, but, it will add something to the game.
Now, mind you, adding ground combat to the game in the form of Mechs designed much in the way that ships handle will greatly enhance how gamers will play the game, especially if your building up a mining base that will enhance your overall wallet, and, take earning creds out from just mining asteroid belts to mission running.
But, as for raid dungeons, well, they are already ingame, but, because nearly 90% of these are controlled by alliances that guard the higher up raid instances, no one other than those paticular alliances are allowed into them. in other words, the alliances own those raid encounters, and regular players aren't allowed into them, trust me, I know from first hand expierence, I lost 3 battleships trying to enter several higher lvl raid instances, and always got shot up by 6-7 pvp players guarding them for thier alliance.
But, alas, the Devs and GMs don't give a rats ass about regular players unless you've got the title of hardcore pvp'r behind it because, in this game, the Devs and GMs will bow to you as if your a god, and, do your bidding if your nothing but a pvp'r.
Walking in stations was already shown more then a year ago. When they bring it in game a think it will last 2 years still. All female avatars with a male voice, you think what are you a guy, no you did know that already that 99% of female avatars. You only cannot believe the male avatars that are actually female then. Or female avatars that are female.
Of it now is pve or pvp, i do not get kick out of it. My eve play has always been mining and missions Eve is a sort of playgame where you can relax and not have prove how good you are in some things. We be reminded too that in rl already with all those advertisements where we slain dead with.

There's a phrase for it...someone I knew mentioned it once (had to google it)...goes like this: " The guilty dog barks the loudest"
I'm not sure what it will be for this particular one but for every phrase in existence there is an opposite phrase to counter it. For example "Seek and yee shall find" vs "Good things come to he who waits".
Basicly if the phrase you have chosen to use is taken literally then it means that every important person throughout history who has raised their voice and caused an uproar for a great cause (whether it is fighting against oppression, fighting for human rights, etc) is basicly guilty of being in the wrong.
It doesnt make much sense does it. You put up a good show of appearing wise and for that I commend you

hey now, I appreciate the creative reply here...I agree they don't fit all the time.
I would say that "for this scenario", it fits, but this is not the universal solution to all of life's questions (42) or something.
Meanwhile, I really wonder if Eve will add some sort of first person shooter equivalent down the line aka fighting within a station for the station...it would be really interesting given the potential character models....and like 2 games in one lol.

I sort of agree with the idea of adding a first person shooter element and I sort of dont. It could add something to EVE that goes beyond simple visual fluff but I rather doubt it would ever get done. Even if it did it would have to be implemented extremely well for it to work and it would also have to fit in with the general feel of the original and main part of the game. EVE was never intended to be that kind of game though........its a game about ships flying around in space. I guess its possible though.
.......oh and I dont think the phrase does fit the scenario actually as I was never trying to "bark the loudest". I was simply reacting to someone elses reaction in the never-ending chain of reactions that constitutes existence.

You do realize the phrase wasn't aimed at you, right?
sheesh man, you post something smart, and then you make yourself sound all confused up in the mind, yo!
I agree it would have to be well implemented but it could be a very interesting addition. space based MMO + first person shooter elements..... I think it has a definite chance with eve, and would certainly be a first to have a flight/space based mmo having a first person shooter element within it (really 2 full games in 1), but it would fit in with the concepts of taking over stations, and having backup clones, and suchforth. Latency would be the biggest issue here given eve's global players and populations. If all of us got about 10x faster connections including eve itself, then it'd definitely be possible.
After all, just "walking around a station" is useless I would suspect in my opinion, nor is it really unique as much. You'll have one person doing what I call wow syndrome, where they just jump around all day (if it allows jumping) or just semi pointless.

Damn it looks like my internal cpu has thrown a spaz! I think I was locked into defence mode and my targeting acquisition unit provided me with faulty data........generally something like "All targets are foes. Fire at will"
......but yeah I agree with what you said there. It could indeed work. To deal with the jumping & dancing dorks CCP could have npc security forces (or even voluntary player ones maybe like the ISO's in chat) onboard the stations that arrest people for moronic behaviour and force them to leave the station for a set period of time. It would never happen I know but I can dream cant I?

There will neither be a /dance emote, nor jumping, in ambulation. It's "ambulation", not "counter strike in space"

We've received no explanation from Eve as far as what will or won't happen. and no, ambulation doesn't tell us what will and won't be allowed. We will know once eve confirms it, and yes, "pvp in spaaaaace" could have a huge selling point. Especially if it looked like battle of proxycon in 3dmark05/06.
Even if you can't jump or dance, there are still an infinite number of retarded things people can do...and don't forget the internet f*wad theory: what can be done stupid, will be done.

Yes we did. There have been numerous posts and statements by ccp on why they won't add a /dance emote, why there will be no jumping, and no pvp in ambulation. It's a socializing tool, not ground combat.

Then it's a waste....I socialize via the chat box, as its the main way to communicate with people in the game (not getting into voice, etc). The chat box works no matter if i am in my ship, or walking on foot. So, this is a completely worthless addition, unless it is a prelude to something more involved, LIKE ground/station combat and/or ship boarding, etc.

Course if you have been following the dev interviews etc on this subject you will know why this will be a good addition despite the lack of PvP.

I personally think a game with Eve's ship combat gameplay as well as an FPS inside of it would be the absolute coolest thing ever, literally nothing would compare to how awesome that would be. Nothing at all ever.
Unfortunately, I believe the majority of people that play Eve are not former FPS players like myself and others on this forum, and as such, putting an FPS feature into the game that would require you to use it or give extra benefits to those who use it over those that don't, wouldn't work and would lose a lot of players that aren't into FPSs.
Though I could see it working as a meaningless way to pass the time while training a skill or something, it would be much much easier to just design a mini-game, which is probably part of the reason they're designing walking in stations in the first place. Just a place where you can walk around and socialize, and take a break from ship stuff while you wait for a skill to train or something, maybe even have a beer while your character is having one, lol.

Ambulation also does ahve a practical side to it as well. To begine with we are getting player housing. Also the corp offices wil have confrence rooms where you can use a special map to plan your corp operations.
Also you can open up shops and sell goods or services therefore getting an income via Walking in stations. i wont go into any more detail as its been stated elswhere where anyone can go and look it up.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
