How to Fix AoC!

Turn it into a single player RPG.  Remember how fun 1-20 was? Awesome fun right? How much did you group or even talk to others in that range? But it was damn fun was it not?  I loved the game 1-20. 20-30 was somewhat okay, afterwards just blah

Well expand that greatness higher then lvl 20, allow the single player to lead and control npc keep sieges. Allow the single player to murder and be hunted by bounty hunter NPC. The PvP ascpects of this game are fundamentally flawed. I say salvage it by turning it into an offline game. It would be easy to play good vs evil. The lands are already setup for it. The story is all there. Maybe I want the powers of Acheron to flow though me to be a vessel of evil destruction? Maybe I want to be a general in conan's army.

Basically make this game play somewhat like Oblivion without all the horrible slowness and grindyness of that game. Oblivion was a horrible min/max stats slow as can be game - don't want anyone to think I liked it. I want awesome action, great stories, voice over, video clips.

I'm for that.   I haven't played AoC, and doubt I will for two reasons: one being it demands a fairly beefy computer.   Mine is 5 years old with upgraded vid & sound cards as well as RAM, but I still think I would get a poor FPS from what I've read.   Second, I hate forced grouping.    Always have.

I like Oblivion in many ways, it had lots of interesting quests, varied towns, cool combat.   However, I do understand and agree with some of the negative things you've mentioned.

    That sounds familiar...

I think I heard that from my mother too!

Single player RPG will not do it any good.

You have to attack AoC in an unconventional way...with a blunt object and a lot of rage.

Well according to some rumored articles.  AoC was a complete game in early 2007.  All it needed was content and bug fixes.  Instead it got reworked completely in late 2007 and ended up a simpler game today.

If this previous build exist, I would say roll the game back to it for the PC market.

The only other fix is for Funcom to go bankrupt and a real company, with money, to buy them out and take over everything.

It's not an MMO if you make it single player.

I suggest throwing out the high graphic requirements. Make it a game that can handle many people in an instance. By default, you will less instancing. The areas will seem more alive. Then, merge what's left of the servers.

Create a living world. Let people with regular computers systems have access to the game.

Make a lan posibillty so you can play game with some friends, relaunch it as a multi player game not a mmorpg:)

Here's a way to fix AoC:

Delete the website and forums, burn the servers, and pretend it never existed.

I think thats what hes trying to say. Remove the MMO tag and release it as a single player game like oblivion. Granted they would have to make alot of changes. And maybe this time have a large serving of humble pie not say something stupid like "AoC is steak to Oblivion's is cheese burger"

I like the way you think, best idea yet for Age of Failure.

I already took my cd's soaked the box with gas and burned it in the front yard. Was the most exciting thing about the game, it did make a pretty high res flame lol.

lol, this game IS a single-player game. that's what most of the players do for the most part, soloing their adventures. What Funcom could do is to provide this beta game for free. Then fix what they need to fix, and start charging again. I really don't see the point in paying a monthly subscription for AoC.

I have to ask, what type of server were you playing on? I couldn't imagine this game being fun playing on a PVE server, It seems meant for open PVP. The questing content and itemization are far to shallow to be the beef of the game.

I did however find open pvp  to be fun. Especially when traveling in a group. Unless you had stealth(ranger here) or traveled in groups you would constantly be ganked, didn't feel like a single player game to me at all.

With the fugitive and PVP systems in place AOC could be exactly what I'm looking for, minus the bugs and other flaws of course.

About the red text. when i was playing AoC ( it should be called Age of Instancing) this one was one of the worst issues in game. Servers were full, but zones appeared dead. I know they were full because of chat, it was full, but there were like 20 copies of the same zone. And when you grouped you always had someone on another copy of the same instance. Aw... I explained this like 100 times... bleh!... such a pity... what a good idea and IP ruined by a bad desing and development.

You know what? Morrowind and Oblivion are better mmorpg than a lot of real mmorpgs out there. A lot of developers should learn from bethesda. Skill system, real time combat, seamless world, or at least really big zones, high customization, housing, mounts. When will we have an elder scrolls mmorpg?
