EU Pre-order info and the D2D/EAStore controversy

Posted by a GOA representative (IainC_Goa) over at the Warhammer Alliance forums:

"I just wanted to clear up a few points of confusion about the open beta program in Europe. When the US pre-order program was announced, it was mentioned that the EU program would not include Open Beta access. At that point we hadn't officially unveiled our program, but as we were getting a lot of enquiries about this, we confirmed that this was the case. Since then, some of you have seen the EA Store in Europe and Direct2Drive advertising the pre-order with Open Beta access.

It's important to note that our official announcement regarding the Standard Edition pre-order is coming on Thursday 28th which is when the program launches. At that time we will provide you with all the details of the pre-order package as well as a list of partners. Some of our partners have preempted that announcement which has led to a bit of confusion.

The situation then is basically as follows:

Pre-ordering a standard edition from most of our partners will not automatically give you Open Beta access as we have said previously. We will however be announcing a list of 'preferred partners' who will be selling the pre-order with Open Beta access. A full list of these partners will be included with the main announcement this week, I can confirm that both the EA Store and D2D are preferred partners and so those of you who have already placed an order need not worry that you won't get what you were offered.

Hopefully this will put some minds at rest and, as I have said, all the remaining details will be unveiled this Thursday."

I ordered from EA Store and asked them to confirm about the Open Beta offer. Instead, they took the payment for WAR then deleted the order...without giving me my money back.

Don't bother ordering from EA Store.

D2D here, no problems, OB code in today. I hear they have crap support but luckily I didn't need any. Seems the classic brick&mortar shops are the ones having the most difficulty adapting to a digital distribution system.

Good luck with EA CS :/

EA Customer support is the worst I have ever had to deal with.

I put a ticket in asking about the OB program. Just asking for a confirmation. I got a half arsed reply that was not relivant at all, that's also when the Order disapeard off my account. It's now been 3 days and EA still have not replied...

I need tog et hold of a phone number for them or something.

Seems like you got a spot of bad luck with EA store.

I bought mine from D2D on the 26th and received my OB key by email last night the 28th after the official announcements.

Best thing is, I wont even have to download the game from D2D since I'm already downloading the beta client!

Ordered from EA store. 29th noon, they are as silent as a tomb.

Open Beta key arrived by email today.

    Happy.

I ordered from EA on the 16th Aug'08.  I got a confirmation order via email, but there is no order showing up on my account.

EA Store is the worst website I've seen for information regarding personal information, and I will never use it again.  I have sent a ticket to them asking for info, but I expect I will get a garbled automated response which bears no resemblance to my query.

I have re-ordered from Direct2Drive this morning, and received my beta key 5 mins later.  I'm assuming the digi-download isn't available from them yet as clicking on the 'download' button doesn't initialise anything, but I can now download the official beta client from Mythic.

Omg, I hate this shit - why is always so complicated..

I have a friend at EA who has contacted the Support Director. He responded back asking my account details but I've heard nothing back from him yet.

I'm tempted to order from Direct2Drive but I'm not sure how easy it will be to get my money back from EA.

I too hassled the EA store through customer service and finally got this reply:

"Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

Please note that we are in the process of mailing out beta key to our customers. We request you to please wait for 10 days and the Beta key will be e-mailed to you. In order to receive email from our company you will need to disengage Spam filter, or add "ea.com" to the list of senders that is allowed through the filter.

If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

    Thank you"

    Lets hope they deliver...

a question about this. The beta download is the same as the full game download? So i won't have to download the game again when the beta ends?

    thanks in advance

The chances you won't have to download a new client are quite slim, generally with any beta you'll have to download a new client. I haven't been in a beta where this hasn't been the case.

I'm still waiting for my open beta key and not with confidence either.

Ah thx then i won't be downloading the beta then. Or I would have to pay for extra bandwith, next month, to download the full game...

It has already been confirmed that the beta client WILL patch upon the official game release.

I repeat, this has been confirmed.

There will be no need to re-download the client for those who participate in the open beta.

I'm a bit tied up atm to find the specific post on www.warhammeralliance.com , but this question has been raised in several post and the general consensus is that the beta client will be patched upon game release.

EA Seem to have a reasonable cancellation policy, so I've put in a ticket for a refund. Hopefully I'll receive it sooner rather than later. If not, I paid with Paypal, so they can help, and I'm sure Fair Trading Standards would have something to say about it if it comes to that.

EA is such a good company for games, but their support sucks so much.

Thank you for writing to EA.com account services.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to process your request at the moment as

all the purchases made through EA Download Manager are final and no refunds

    can be issued further.

For more information on EA Download Manager and EA Store policy, please

visit www.eastore.ea.com and click on customer service link at the top right

    corner of the page.

    I take that back.

yeah same here, i ordered a digital download from EA store and in my account there is no order history. no open beta code given out, they just took my money and no further information. I t doesn't even tell you where the download is.

  • ItchehItcheh Member Posts: 9

Well, I threatened EA with a Paypal dispute and Fair Trading Standards. I opened the Paypal dispute too. EA got back to me and my order has now been cancelled and a refund will reach me in 5-8 days.

I ordered from D2D and as soon as I finished paying, I was able to get my Open Beta key.

My advice to anyone is to NEVER order from EA Store. The company makes such good games, but their support is the worst support I have ever encountered. I plan on getting a placement at EA next year. My first task I set myself will be to have a moan internally about Support and the Store xD
