Signing up for 3 month + Subs - explain the logic ?

Why would anyone sign up for more than the minimum sub period ?

Because usually, it gets cheaper, the longer your sub-period is?

If you can see yourself playing this game longer than a month, you would buy longer subscriptions which give you more of a discount, than if you would just buy a single monthly recurring subscription.

First of all, there's usually a discount for paying for multiple months at once.

Secondly, if you know it'll take you at least 3 months to start a new character, advance it to max level, and see most of what you want to see, it's kinda silly to throw away extra money on a one-month-at-a-time subscription (unless of course you can't commit to a multiple-month sub due to financial reasons).

Yep. While the monthly fee is $14.99, (with DAoC) the 3-month plan was actually more like $13.99 for three months, though you had to pay a lump sum charge. 6-month was I believe around $12.99 a month, so it's relatively cheaper if you pay for more than one month at a time.

Personally though I've always done the normal monthly plan

normally i do only a month at a time for subscriptions, but ill probably do a multi-month for WAR cause i already know how much i love the game.

As someone who purchased a 3 month AoC subscription, I will for SURE not be doing that with WAR until I have a month under my belt.

well id say first month u should do 1 month then if u like it try 3 month and if u love it do the year subs. The reason is u pay less. u get like

    Monthly Subscription: $14.99 USD

    3-Month Subscription: $41.97 ($13.99 per month)

    6-Month Subscription: $77.94 ($12.99 per month)

    So at 1 month prices

3 months would be 44.97 ( damn this one dumb)

6 months would be 89.94 ( so its 12 dollars cheaper)

    Eh there monthly deals suck!!!!

but it seems to be the standard on all mmos this one is just like 5 cents cheaper then EQ on its differant sub fees and i think only the year makes sense.

    On EQ2(edit forgot the 2)

    1year - 143.99 and if it was 14.99 it would be 179.88

so i guess in conclusion people do it to think they are really saving money when really they are just really not saving much.

Personally, the savings isn't big enough to justify the committment. A lot of things can happen in 3 months (or more).

  • ThunderballsThunderballs Member Posts: 365

    No point in my book.

What you potentially save in fees is nothing compared to what you potentially loose.  The discounts are just not enough to compensate.

Do you think there is an element of vanity involved for 3 month subs or even a case of a lot of people maybe having the cash now and not trusting themselves / parents to splash out in the future ?

To my mind they ought to offer you bonus items foir a 3 month sub on launch not just modest discounts but games companies obviously feel they dont have to or presumably they would.

I never did the buy the month packages because of what u just said but i did always think i would be saving alot more then what i just found out by doing the math in my previous post.

That could be the case, though it never was with me, but I doubt many people would spend time doing "math". They just see the ($12.99) a month and think, "Hey! That's 2 bucks cheaper, and if I don't like it, I can always go back before the 6 months are up...I'm saving money." The important thing is the option is there for those kinds of people. Whether or not they do enough work to justify how they chose their sub plan is their responsibility.

Also, if the company offered items or other bonuses for the 3/6-month plans, and you end up not liking it anymore after, say, 4 months, you could feel a little cheated. "The company gets money for 2 months that I don't want to play anymore, while I get some item that I can only use in-game...which is useless to me now, because I don't want to play anymore?" Again, it was the customer's choice, but you just know there's going to be morons who take that stance.

Please, please for the love of Christ, Buddha or the Spaghetti Monster if you please, do not compare AoC to WAR.

It's like comparing apples to rotten eggs.

AoC was total fail. WAR will be an awesome MMO.

It might not become bigger then WoW. But it will be better.

3 months is a good deal... been in CB since 2007... so this isnt going to break my piggy bank..

This should at least take me to when Stargate Worlds is released. Unless they push that game back.

Yeah but if u wanted to cancel after the first month you lose 26.98. and thats not including the free months. Now i know 26dollars but it can add up.

I will gladly pay for a year up front for myself and the gf.  Also you get a free first month with purchase.

Ive done 6 month subscriptions on a few games before and most of the time I am done/bored with them by about the 3-4 month mark....While tis nice paying just 13 backs a month instead of 15 and also just having to write one check for 6 months, in the end I spend more than I would have if I had just gone monthly.... Really I have only played one game for more than 6 months continuously and that was Everquest back when there weren't alot of alternatives.....Even games like WoW and EQ2 get extremely boring to me after a couple months and I'd imagine WAR will probably fall into that category also.

  • SlothBearSlothBear Member Posts: 55

Yeah I agree the minor financial incentive isn't enough to justify it. A lifetime subscription like LotRO has would tempt me if I really liked the game. I would prefer to just have one game to play and not worry about the rest, but I haven't heard anything about WAR having a lifetime subscriber option.

I never sub for more than a month at a time. My friend subbed to CoH for 6 months the month Katrina hit us. Took me three months to get a new computer and internet, took him longer than that. There are games I have played that subbing for 3-6 months would have been beneficial, but down here it's just too volitile.

I could never see the benefit of subbing for more than a month aside from the reduced rates..

But, if you don't play the game for that long, no point is "basically" paying an extra 3 bucks a month (if you buy the 46 bucks for 4 months plan.. but only play 2 months.. it's 23 bucks amonth!!)

I rarely pay for more than a month at a time. I did 6 month once for CoH (woot before purple nerf!) and I plan to do at least 3 month for Warhammer. I've played in beta, love it. It's like DAoC and I see myself playing it a good while just like I did DAoC.

Save money play what I like, what's wrong with that?

I soo agree. I mean if ya sign up for 3 months, I think you should save $3 per month, you sign for 6, save $6 per month and so on.

saving a buck a month is nothing really.....well you could splurge and spend it on the dollar menu at McDonalds....but then you would have to come up with 7 cents for tax ><

  • ZeroxinZeroxin Member UncommonPosts: 2,515

30 days feels too small for me, I'd rather just have my 3-months or 6-months subs. Popping out my card every 30 days would make me feel like i'm spending too much on the game when I could just pop it in every 3 months and not have to worry about it for a while.

    This is not a game.

I go month to month because I like to punish developers with a canceled account when they try to crap on their players with bad patches. If you pay for blocks of several months at a time, you're effectively nullifying your voice with the development team. Worst possible scenario there is buying  a lifetime account because then you're stuck with whatever they choose to give you.

Is there really an argument here?

People pay for the amount of time they want to commit to, the end.

I dont know about anyone else but when i get a new MMO i dont buy anything until im about to run out of the free period. At that time i should have enough info to say how much time i am willing to commit. So if  buying an extended period of time saves me a couple of bucks then why not.

Like some one said above, a life time period for LOTR online is just 200 bucks and i believe that if you sign up for a 3 month period and keep it that way it cost you just 9.99 a month. So LOTRO has some amazing deals.... which is probably because not that many people play, but hey.. that should be an incentive to other folks if they want to draw people in.

    MMEEEEEHHHHH!!!
