DF fans, I saw all 6 videos launched today on YouTube in high quality.. still downloading the torrent video....
But if this seriously makes you excited and drool... then I hate to say this... but there is already a game that looks as good or better, with probably 10 times the content out. Full PvP, looting, skills, great crafting and loot, etc.
I will admit that I didn't think the video would come out today. Figured it would be a couple more weeks. However, as I suspected they didn't show nearly as much single player 3rd person perspective game play as I would have hoped for. I understand why they showed it the way that they did. Makes it look more exciting and dramatic to show it in the fashion that they did.
I will almost guarantee you fans though that a 9 year old PvP game that exists right now is better, smoother, and already out. Simply log onto the Darktide server of Asheron's Call right now and get just as good of graphics with TONS of content, smooth gameplay, tons of skills you can completely vary your avatar with and change individually with use and experience earned. Sure, there isn't a lot of players now, but in two months after Darkfall launches, when it launches, there will probably not be many players there either.. if it lasts that long. If it launches and cannot support all the players or is very bug ridden, then most of the people who try it will eventually get frustrated and leave. And there may not be as many players buying this game as you think.
I can say after watching these videos that I am extremely confident that Asherons Call is a better game, with just as good of graphics as Darkfall will ever be. And it is going to be going on its 10th year in November people.
I will admit that I was wrong about Darkfall not launching soon. I admit that I now think it has a good chance of launching within the next six months or so. I certainly have concerns which I think are legitimate that it will have many bugs, lag, and other problems that may be very slow for such a small team to fix when it does launch however. And that alone could be the death of Darkfall. Time will tell.
I'm being serious guys and gals. If you are truly excited about this game, all of you log into the Darktide server of Asherons call and fight each other and run around and kill mobs and do quests. The quests in AC actually are MUCH deeper then the WoW type quests as well, they actually have tons of lore and purpose to them, and most are intelligently done. The PvP is some of the most fun PvP ever cone in an mmo imo, maybe only giving Dark Age of Camelot credit for more fun PvP. Death has tough consequences in Asherons Call. Items drop on your corpse, yes even items that are equipped can be lost, and the higher your level, the higher the item loss suffered, forcing you to always carry "death items" as insurance that you don't drop your most prized equipment should you die!
I suggest you play or try Asherons Call until this game releases and see what you think. There is a 14 day free trial that you can play NOW!

Atleast try it if you have never tried good ol' AC and if you are truly excited about Darkfall. And then in the scenario where Darkfall fails to launch for a few months and/or fails to run as smoothly as you would hope it will, you'll atleast have a solid 9 year old PvP game with tons of content that has been added monthly to fall back on.
Granted AC doesn't have the ship combat, but I betcha AC has tons of good stuff that Darfall will fall short of as well.
Whatever you do, enjoy what you play.
Yes I will try Darkfall when it's available. But I bet you anything right now that it's player based review on this website and many other websites will not be nearly as good as the reviews and scores that already exist for this old school mmo that I firmly believe is one of the best PvP mmos ever made. Trust me when I say it deserves atleast a chance from everyone who loves PvP in their online gaming.

I dont get it? You seems to hate Darkfall and everything it stands for! But at same time you talk very warmly about AC. But if there is similaritys..why dont you hate AC as well??

I played AC when it came out for a few months, I played AC2 for about a month; I really enjoyed DAoC for about 6 months.
I have been playing EVE on and of for 5 years.
The attraction of darkfall, as was the attraction of EVE, is freedom. It is what AOC dared to be but truely failed. It is about building a clan with your friends, gathering resouces and working together to survive in the dangerous but exciting world.
I was sceptical of the quality of DF: but after seeing that Video it looks truely awesome. If you want graphics subscribe to the empty shell of a game that is AOC. If you want the excitment that MMOs are supposed to be about then Darkfall is the only current fantasy MMO around. I never thought I would say this but I think it may even be a WOW killer or atleast a serious wound.

AC was excelent and play ed it for 2 and a half years... But sadly it offers nothing new anymore. I am just happy for the DF guys able to see some of their hard work coming together...

Pffttt. I'm a doubting Thomas when it comes to DFO and anyone who knows me on the forums knows this. Saying that, this is a small Indie company without debt like most of the developers and without debt, they don't need 1,000,000 subscribers from the start. They can start with 20,000 and work their way up from there just like EVE did and eventually be pulling in 250,000- 300,000 paying subscribers a month. When you are debt free, collecting royalties, and letting others pay for the upkeep of the game and servers, that is an amazing amount of pure profit you are making.

been online gaming since 95, mmos since 99. what can i say? been there done that.
from what i've read about DF and now from that video, i have no doubt that game is gonna be awesome. finally a fantasy pvp sandox well worth playing. i'm a huge fan of EvE and SoR. this looks like i can finally get both in one game.

Game looks just amazing and the graphics many complains over is nothing but troll propaganda. Who in their right mind could expect a game where you can have a 200 vs 200 epic battle with 60 fps to be Age of Conan hi polygon graphics?
Gameplay owns graphics any day and Darkfall seems to have just that, amazing gameplay.

I just saw this video and let me tell you something...
I was impressed. No, really, i enjoyed watching the video and the game looked fun to play.
Graphics were fine (though in some scenes the characters seemed to "float" when they ran downhill) but oveall, it was the gameplay that impressed me.
Ship combat, mounted combat, (not a lot of magic combat though, more melee and archers) and in general, just lots of great combat.
And the scenery was great too.... ice, deserts, islands, fantastic lands.
If this game is for real, I'll be playing it.

lol funny post op, i played Ac/DT from 97 to 2004, together with the devs of DF btw. Was a nice game, even when i played it last in 2004 it was still nice.
But ok, it cant even start comparing with DF, heh, after i saw the vid today im sure..
I even considered subscribing again now for patch 100 but after this vid, no way, lol last 7 years it has just been carebears roaming on DT.

I used to like AC, it was once a great game. Its subpar by todays standards but I will say that it probably is still a much better game than what I have been able to take from this new DF video.

I am enjoying WAR a lot. WAR and DF will make a great MMO year. I think DF and WAR are niches games in their own.
DF and it's hardcore PvP (FFAPvP Full Looting). WAR and it's RvR implementation of PvP.
I think they wont attract the masses but they maybe successful in the sense of having a big community.
I do think the number guy (1213213432 or whatever) is correct in the other of the games, if we only consider subs as who "wins".
But lets remember this is not a match. I could care less who has more subs. These are games and I will be extremely happy to have these two games to play. They both should give me a lot of fun. After all we play for the fun, dont we?
As long as DF and WAR get enough player base to keep going (economically), I will be happy.
EDIT: AoC started the year very bad for MMOs... but can 2008 end up as one great year?!

This is a very good reply and i agree to the fullest with you.
DF nor WAR will be any WoW killing games. I doubt we will see any MMORPG game in the close future that will be even close to WoW subs.
Hopefully we can all play the MMORPG games we like though and the Devs can get enough money too keep going and evolve the games.
