ok guys im building a rig right now and im wondering what you all think of my components. remember im not going for a world beater, im looking for a decent gaming rig with upgrade potential. Oh yea, i got around $1100 US. any suggestions on a better component for the same price, or somewhere i should put more money/ or less for that matter, would be helpfull

thx in advance

case- Antec 900

PSU- antec 650 W

CPU- E6850 duo @ 3 gig   or

       - Q9300 quad @ 2.5 gig              similar price , same FSB  cant decide.

GPU- 9800GTX

RAM- 4 gig.   DDR2 800

MOBO- 750i SLI

OS- Vista home   64 bit

i would check into the PSU first thing the corsair 620hx is highly reccomended in that wattage range (~$130)

im going to use my local computer store for pricing (in CDN $)

    case is good (89.99)

i would look into the e8400 (179.99) instead of the 6850, it's newer and should not even be more expensive. if you just wanna play games and stuff dont worry about the quad they are really only good if you do multimedia encoding, photoshop, 3d work etc.

gpu: pretty much depends on the price but for an 1100$ comp i think you could get something more powerful.. like a 4870X2 (around 500$) ? (depends how big of a monitor you have) if ur monitor is 22" or less maybe look at a 4870 or gtx 260 no point in spending lots on a big gpu for 1680x1050 or less

ram i'm not sure on except dont spend much money on it (75$ or less for 4g imo)

not sure on that mobo, for a single gpu config i would probably stay clear of nvidia mobo and get something like a gigabyte P45 board (EP 45-DS3L = $120.00)

if they are the same price always go with the quad core.

Unless you are going to run sli don't buy an nvidia mobo.  Don't know the prices off the top of my head, but a 4850/70 would likely be a better option on the video card anyway.

i would get xp not vista - uses less resources = more for applications.   Unless you must have 64 in which case a lot of stuf wont run on it.

Get faster ram - amd crossfire board not sli if you want 2 run 2 cards.   HD4870 and its z2 version is where its at at the moment.

I agree quad core if same price.  Dont pay a lot more for a slightly better processor difference you really wont notice and you always replace cu at a later date and overclock easily and safely.  My quad core is rated at 2.4 i can run it at 3.2 stable wit hno extra colling over the stock retail fan.  I dont because i just dont need to.
