Will this game survive?

I hope so, but the subscribership sure looks teensy.  Can this game be rejuvenated?  Or is it too late?

It will survive. The number of subscribers will probably stay low, but it will survive. WWII Online had a horrible launch, but that game is still around. If Wolfpack created a new graphics engine for Shadowbane, I'm sure it would draw more people in.

In another year im not too sure  it will be around unless they step it up a notch. Theres gunna be atleast 10 new big mmorpg titles that will be getting released within another year and ones that offer very good pvp so im not too sure if shadowbane will survive after eq2 , wow , saga of ryzom , dark and light , dragon empires , darkfall , meo , potb , vanguard , tabula , wish and guild wars come out. But once all these come out you wont really need to worry if it dies since you'll have an awesome selection of games with some great pvp systems in them.

I can't see why it should close.

Latest survey says it has 40,000 accounts.Granted it is sliding but slowly.

If you look at the graph it says AC2 with 28,000 and WW2 online with 12,000.Both this games have been around longer and show no sign of closing down.

Planetside is at 50,000 and a recent interview with a producer says PS is making them money with 50,000 accounts.

So i think shadowbane is making money. Not much but it is.

Main proble shadowbane is going to have is that it looks like something from the late 90s.It needs a mjor overhaul of its engine if it is not to haemorraghe customers to the 2 or 3 soon to come  out free for all pvp.

Since this is the crowd it attracts i think there is little worries from EQ2 and WoW(one has not even got all form of pvp at launch). So if it overhauls its engine and tries to look more 21th century then it might fend off the lesser known games which plan free for all pvp.

The game is on a major rebound from the look at server populations. This game will survive because most of the "hyped" games that are coming out will not live up to expectations. Also since UBI bought wolfpack most of the bugs are being taken care of.

Yah this game will servive with the new expansions and such , i love the PVP iin this game i dont know what kind of PVP the other games will have but SB was my first love for MMORPG's and it will always get my money intil it closes, which i think wont happen there are a lot of faithful fans out there that are willing to wait until wolfpack and UBI step it up a bit maybe with a new 3d eninge or something.

games with less graphics can make large scales battles more enjoyable and less lag. Also people with less powerful pc's can play a game like this. Thats good ^_^

This game will survive, and grow I think.

    Check this out:

    http://www.pvpgamers.net/dra/EB.avi

It's the best pvp mmorpg on the market, and nothing is really going to compete with it anytime soon.

Plus I heard UBI plans on announcing something huge to blow away the upcoming mmorpgs.

More dead Beyond reproach. You have to love it. The game is alot of fun and will be around. PvPers are running out of options. Dragon Empires has been cancelled and I am sure Darkfall will be next. WoW, L2, and EvE do not cut it for pvp.

This was one of my favorite online games and I waited a long time for it. I don't play anymore but it was hella fun - if the servers had stayed in the thousands like when it was first released, I would still be playing it =

You should try playing on Vengeance we have a very healthy population there. There is more pvp there than most fo the other server.

Hmmm, I might, if it's populated like you say; I've been scoping around for an online game to play when I'm bored :) Is the expansion worth getting?

Not sure about the xpac yet very little info has been released about it so far and it is not scheduled to go retail until end of Nov.

Honestly what other game is out that you have 3 to 5 hour pvp battles to determine the outcome of a player built city? Our guild just went through on of these tonight. It was a very  close battle  that was up in the air on who was going to win the whole time. Shadowbane is about Epic battles and they happen here.

This is one of the main reasons that I feel SB is the best MMORPG out right now. As a Pker at heart this game provides the environment that suits my needs minus looting of course.

It will hang around.  The options for PVP games are extremely limited.  WoW's pvp is a secondary concern of the development and EQ2.. well nuff said there.

I think it will, and alot of people love hardcore PVP, and the only good MMORPG to have that level of PVP is Eve Online and DAOC.

  • stephenhoffmstephenhoffm Member Posts: 3

Shadowbane will last a good bit longer. I heard they have just let Asia begin to play. With Asia just starting to play i bet Shadowbane will survive without a doubt.

Well, the expansion pack is gonna be announced soon, and will be a low price, and will also have a gold mode :).BUT!With WoW,DAoC Catacombs,EQ2,,Planetside Expansion,ect....tthere will be competition. But my guess is it'll do fine from now till about late 05-06

i think the game is very well thought out when it comes to pvp except 1 thing.  when someone new comes to the game and they dont have guild or many friends to rely on they get rpk'ed all the time and get discouraged.  there is realy nothing that can be done about this but its still a problem.  anyway im sure the game will survive because it is the standard for good pvp IMO.

I aggree with Jigger's post, add to that the smack talking that some people talk when they run up on with a full group and your alone....gotta love "pwned" tells when its 10 against 1...

talking along the lines of what jigger said, I have had a few times grouped with lowbies 18-25 and had a high level fool come to take out our group and we actually beat the rpker! lol, thats another beauty of the game, you can compete early on.

EQ2 and WoW are not really the threat to SB, unless people are just bored with the game they wont leave for those two games. I think the threats are around the corner though, Dark and Light being the biggest, Mourning is also one that some SBers might join. I have not played SB in a few months, the Seige lag pissed me off one too many times, But im really needing a MMORPG and want good PvP, i think i am going to re activate my acount after school finals, But If DnL or mourning turn out with very good PvP, i am going to jump to one of them :/

""Latest survey says it has 40,000 accounts.Granted it is sliding but slowly.""

How does this crap still have 40,000 accounts? Shadowbane was the most horrible piece of software I ever installed on me computer.

"Dark and Light being the biggest, Mourning is also one that some SBers might join."

Switch that around and you might have something. Mourning looks way better than Dark and lame.. In fact if you go over to their forums you'll see loads of old Shadowbane guilds hanging around waiting.

Mourning is set to launch at the end of FEB..  D&L is (if it isnt post poned) launching in April. First one out the gate usually gets and holds the players.

and last but not least - why the hell would anyone want to play something made in France.

I love Shadowbane.  Everytime I leave for another MMO I always end up back in SB.  WoW took me away for 1 week but damn WoW just bores the heck out of me.  Shadowbane is THE PvP game.  Hopefully the new expansion beefs up the populations a little.

Everytime someone gets mad and says "this game will be gone in 3 months"...the game survives...and just keeps going.

I think that even if they are losing money they will keep it up for tax loss purposes.

I hope that it passes through all the big huge releases and gets a revamp on the otherside.

Vanguard and DarkFall may take it out though ;)
