FLS fixes ganking...with more ganking!

The official PotBS forums are very entertaining at the moment. Apparently FLS put 1.7 on the live servers before a long weekend and this was the patch that was supposed to fix ganking. Unfortunately people are now complaining because it's possible to game the system to result in fights even more lopsided than before (six players versus nine players instead of the old system that limited both sides to six people).

I'm starting to think that PotBS is like a training mmo for FLS so they can get stuff figured out for the new game they are working on. Too bad people are paying for the pleasure of being a guniea pig.

Ha!  I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who still enjoys reading the PotBS forums.

The especially interesting part is all people complaining (rightly, if you ask me) that 1.7 is just going to kill off the weaker factions.  Sure, new people can enter the battle to even things out, but what if your side just doesn't have them?

I'm getting the distinct impression that the problem with these devs is that they fail to think globally, i.e. they think Problem One deserves Solution One, never mind that it's going to screw up Problem Two even more.

The devs mean well and they're trying hard. I have no doubt about that. Unfortunately, they seem to have completely lost the big picture and are now wasting their time trying to keep the ship from sinking by blowing even bigger holes in the hull. They don't seem to be listening either. There is much panic in the air.

It's sad really, because this just reinforces the idea that making WoW clones with a couple of new gimmicks and hyping them to death is the only way to success. The game had much potential, but it has pretty much been blown out of the water by now. The free trials and advertising campaign will not solve that. The fundamental underlying issues are still there and people will leave once they see that. In the end, POTBS will be nothing more than another MMO in the SOE Station Access graveyard.

It's there now. One viable server, Antigua, out of how many at launch?

    Aye.

They completely screwed up when they estimated the number of servers needed at launch. I believe they've admitted that much... and if it was only that, it wouldn't have been such a bad thing. However, it's their failure to address the population imbalance and night flipping issues that has brought them down to a single viable server

It does NOT reinforce the idea that making WoW clones is the only way to success. It reinforces the idea of launching Fun and Complete games as the only way to success. PotBS's failure has nothing to do with any other game. Its all FLS.

If that's the case, then surely the MMO developers would have learned from disasters such as Vanguard, Horizons, Shadowbane and countless other MMOs long ago and this trainwreck called AOC would never have happened. But yeah, FLS did this to themselves and now they're paying for it... or maybe it's SOE who's paying now
