yes its true, the max rank of the game 40 wont take anyone too long to get, because you need 40 to even try to go in on a city siege and not get wtfpwnt by the defenses.  honestly 40 is just there as the marker that says youre finally ready to hit the fun part of the game and kill kings and rub it in the other sides noses.

now the real grind, realm rank 80, you might be up to rr 40 when you hit the level 40 cap, you might not be, like if you pve your xp (boring imo) youll be lacking realm rank severly where as if you level via pvp (the fun and profitable route (see the gold for kills quests)) youll maintain roughly the same realm rank as regular level (at least when i was playing i was staying even winning scenarios and capturing world land marks for realm rank and turing in the kill quests for xp and cash and of course the bonuses for winning /playing scenarios)

so is level 40 easy to get in a few weeks to a month?  you bet.  is every single class in the game awesome to play and worth having at max level you bet.  20 classes atm x 1 month each = almost 2 years just trying them all at 40.  and then rank 80 im guessing the most hardcore person getting to in like 3 months (mind you level 40 rank 80 = a set of armor that would make a suit of red uniques in wow look like crap).

and yup you level guilds too and guilds can claim the objective keeps to help defend them even better with alerts to sieges being broadcast to the guild and a recall ability so you can teleport into the keep and not be held out by the attackers, and since healers can spam resses for the defenders you can be truely hard to remove unless the attacking force is intelligent and truely more powerfull (not just some idiotic zerg).

all in all i see myself getting far more fun play time out of war then i did with wow, did i mention how disappointed i was when wow made my high warlord title meaningless by giving everyone access to my level of gear without putting in the effort just becuase everyone cried the grind was too much for them.  war wont be caving in letting level 40 rr 1s use my 40 80 armor no sir, theyll have to kill the hundreds of thousands or whatever the exact number ends of being of enemies too if they wanna play on my level of field and coolness!

When I play an MMO, the only drive to continue to play that game should be because it is fun, NOT because I'm not a super uber powerful high-level pwner that waisted hours and hours only to have the best items that won't be the best in six months when the next expansion comes out and so I have to keep playing this repetitive boring stuff until I can actually GET to the bulk of the content kjgfajkgfkafgakf.....  Not for me!  No thank you!

This game is a bit different than what we are used to.

Some things you need to know:

There are 40 Ranks (Character Levels). Your character improves and you gain access to new skills as in most MMORPGs. You can gain Ranks through a number of means. You can advance to 40 exclusively through PvE or PvP, but a mix will provide the most rewarding experience and character development.

As others have said, it may take a month or so to hit Rank 40.

There are also 80 Renown Levels, which are advanced by earning renown through PvP and RvR by "...either killing players, healing your fellow players, defending battle objectives or keeps or playing in a scenario".

Renown gives you access to more than special gear. With each Renown Rank you earn a Renown Point, which are used to purchase special character enhancements ("defensive, offensive and stat bonus packages") or RvR Tactics for your character.

To have a character with truly maxed character development, you will need to max Character Rank AND Renown Rank!

Maxing Renown Ranks could take a year.

As others have stated, don't forget the Tome of Knowledge. Completing quests, encountering different species,  discovering landmarks, finding NPCs, killing players, accomplishing PvP, RvR and PvE objectives and other elements are all tracked in your Tome of Knowledge.

However, the ToK is not just a detailed log of your accomplishments. You can unlock Titles, but also Tactics, which can effect your abilities or stats. This is the third layer of character advancement. One could spend years trying to uncover and unlock every element of the ToK.

A lot of MMORPGs have hyped that the game begins at "end game" and that hitting max character level is just the beginning. In most cases, that means just the beginning of grinding Raid centric Instances for Uber Gear. Here, it's much, much more.

Add in the replay value afforded by each race having it's own PvE and RvR zone progression to Character Rank 40 and there is a ton of content here.

I dont buy into this replay value that much. You play mmos to achieve, if RR80 is so amazing then why stop at RR40 and re-roll? I think there will be a lot of people hitting the RR-grind wall and using rerolling as an excuse not to grind.

Don't see the problem.  I hit max level in wow in 1 month when it came out.  Endgame RvR is where it's at just like endgame PvE was where WoW was at for a long time.  If you don't like RvR and the slow progress through renown ranks you're better off sticking to WoW,

If you just care about levelling for 'fun' and not RvRing this game is probably not for you.  If you want a drawn out levelling process which takes months or longer there are probably other games that do it way better.  But if you want a RvR game which may take months to take the other capitol city, this game is a good bet.

Judging by the fact that you use RR and "grind" in the same sentence, I'm guessing this game may not be the best one for you.  I never found getting RR as a grind, just as a bonus to the fun I was having in RvR.

....Would you rather it have it take 2 years to hit max level?

I hit max level in WoW in a month, I had like 40 days playing time on all my 70's.

With open RvR....and the ability to unlock dungeons

    PvP ranking system

    ToK

    Guild levels

....more to do than most MMO's, but people will always complain and find flaws.

I CALL THEM DEBBIE DOWNERS! (SNL refrence )

    Uhh... what?
