well if you think WoW is sandbox-ish then yes, WAR will feel sandbox-ish to you.  but most consider WoW and WAR pretty far from sandbox.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

That's also why I loved WoW: It felt more open and seamless than most games. Vanguard accomplished this as well, but failed horribly in the content department.

WoW? Sandbox? Jesus since when the term deformed so much

The OP is not quite using the term correctly, but the accessibility of the terrain was phenomenal for any game. Why am I the only person to have figured out what the OP meant by the way?

I might be wrong but it looks like you just want a open world to play in, thats not by definiton a sandbox game.

I've been in CB but way to short to give a full view of the game, but even in the short time I spend in it it didn't feel sandox-ish to me but it did feel as a openworld, atleast the limited time I did spend in the game never gave me a load screen when moving to different locations or entering a RVR location or entering new Chapters, but like I said I hardly explored much of the game so maybe someone else can fill in some blanks.

WAR will not be sandbox in the same way EVE is. But as far as a seamless world, it will be.

If you read some of the interviews on tentonhammer they say that dungeons are actually hidden and involve swimming and climbing to even find the entrance.

It plays very similar to WoW. There are also 3 separate war fronts, so you can play the game 3 different times and get a very different experience each time.

yeah, there are 'open world instances', known as 'lairs'.

unless they changed it since i last played a while ago in beta, they had alot of invis walls that u couldnt get by so that hill just over the next was just that a hill over there you couldnt get too.

No, there is no sort of mountain climbing or ocean swimming (you can't even go underwater at all, only across the top of it.

There are out of the way places that you can get to that have hidden stuff, that unlock things in the ToK etc...and it's a fairly large world to explore, but there isn't much sandbox about this game.

You don't have much in the way of anything outside of the two defined set paths before you, ie: levelling through pve quests which are generally "go here, kill this many guys then come back and I'll send you to see someone else who wants a couple things like Unicorn horns or Mushroom Caps or something, then she'll send you back to me and I'll send you to the next guy who want's 15 other guys killed and the blood of a forest sprite or some such."

Or you can play by RvR and PvE combined as that's what the game is centered around, but the progression there is tightly linear.  Get to the end of Tier 1, then move to Tier 2, Tier 3 then Tier 4.  You would have to try really hard to equate this game with a sandbox style of any sort.

Before the flames come rolling in, notice I didn't put down the game by any means, only explaining things to the OP regarding his question, that no, this is not a sandbox game.

the game is linear and terrain is limited by invisible walls and forces you along a progression path.  It is similair to AoC but without the instancing.  There is limited zoning as you move from tier 2 to tier 3 and sometimes other areas require you to go through swirly portal.  But they are very few.

So no it does not have that open world feel of WoW, it is more to me like EQ2 and how they do zones based on tier.  But you are limited in how you get to the next zone, you can't just swim over to the next area you have to go through the swrily portal found on the road.

If you mean does it have invisible walls like Age of Conan where you feel forced to walk certain paths in the zones, then no.

Zones are huge. Very very large. If you don't do scenario RVRs you will lvl 10 to 11 lvls without zoning. And when you see a zone you can explore every square inch and the game is designed where they WANT you to go off the beaten track (as you can get xp for discovering some new area, etc)

If you are talking Sandbox as in EvE or Pre-CU SWG then no its not. The dungeons, quests, etc are developer made. Which, is good for many people as some like a sandbox where the players do EVERYTHING and then there is some where its nice to follow a storyline.

That is very untrue. Ive been in closed beta for months and I never hit an invisible wall. Please do not post false and/or misleading information.

I left AoC for WAR closed beta for the sheer fact that War does not have linear zoning and invisible walls.

Wow, I've never seen so many MMO terms abused, misused, mutilated and discarded all in one thread before reading this one.

No wonder developers can't deliver a game players want. Huge portions of the gaming community haven't got a damn clue wtf they are even talking about.

Again, it seems seamless in some areas and other areas you seem confined (as someone pointed out the invis walls and non underwater swimming).

If you have ever played DAoC then it has the same feel to it (but  on a bigger scale).

WoW is not a sandbox BTW its a very linear game . Unfortunetly or fortunetly WAR is even more linear , complete quest at X chapter then move on to other chapter tc .

WAR is Theme park. The same is about WoW. they have nothing with sandbox. Swiming and climbing have nothing with sandbox also. Its even possible that sandbox donot allow swiming or even climbing, even that will be very strange about fantasy sandbox where you walk on the ground

    image

Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

Its not a sandbox.  Its a level based system theme park MMO.  I am sorry this is not what you were expecting for.

As you can preorder and then cancel, you may want to try it and see if you will have fun anyway.... who knows?

You can climb mountains and swim around.  But I am not sure if to the way you want it.

This is different and bigger than GW but WAR still is not even near to a sandbox.

If you mean seamless world, WAR is pretty much it.  It has few instances.
