Which is your favorite Star Trek Series?
I used to think mine was The Next Generation, but lately I've really started getting into Voyager.
I like Voyager. I think Janeway is cool. She's really classy in her style and I like the idea of a female captain kicking some ass and also being mostly logically coherent in her decision making. It makes her charming. She still maintains that female side when needed though at just the right "proportions".
I like Seven of Nine too. She adds a lot to the series. I've always felt that the concept of individuality is one that is important to the human concept and it gives the series a chance to really focus on that whole idea. She struggles with it and it brings about a lot of the philosophical debates that have gone on throughout history. Nice! She's also pretty darn hot!
The Doctor is one of my favorite characters too. He's so sarcastic in his humor. And his struggle to gain human capacity (I know it's an old plot line) adds to the story. He does this in a way that seems different from the way that Data did it in TNG. It's hard to explain, but he pulls it off well.
Just curious what you guys thought. I've ALWAYS been a Star Trek fan. Even back to the first series. I still watch those.
I can't wait to see what the next round of series is coming up. Enterprise was okay, but I hope they do something better next time. I sorta felt sorry for Scott Bakula getting mixed up in that. I always loved him in Quantum Leap, he's a cool actor. I think he pretty much saved Enterprise from being a total flop. But next time I hope the next series is just plain awesome.
Maybe this upcoming movie might boost the next series along.

The original.
He was awesome.
Shatner is still awesome. I hope I age half as well as he has. A good looking fellow. He was on Coast to Coast Am the other night and he has a great personality as well.

My favorite Star Trek show was Deep Space Nine. Though the show had a bit of a slow start during the first 3 season, they did lay down a solid foundation for some great character development. And it was the characters that really hooked me into the show more so than the Dominion War. Don't misunderstand me, I thought the Dominion was a great antagonist and the battle fights were awesome, but it was the different range of very rounded characters that kept me watching the show.
For example, Benjamin Sisko was married once and widowed with a young son. A character avenue that was never explored for any of the commanders of any of the previous series. Sisko combined the diplomat of Picard with Kirk's man of action. Odo and how his character progress from a one of a kind alien in the Alpha Quadrant and exploring who and what he is, only to finding out that his people are rulers of a vast and brutal empire and to have to do the one thing he claimed never to do....choose what side he was on. And Garak who was the exiled spy trying to pass himself of as "just a simple tailor" reminded me so much of the old adage "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". Elam Garack was all of those things wrapped up in one character.
I've enjoyed all the Trek series. Even Voyager and Enterpise to a lesser extent. Each added differnt and complex layers to the Star Trek universe but none added more complexity and layers than DS9!!
I got to say that while TOS, TNG and Voyager had their good episodes, I think in general DS9 had overall the best seasons.
On another note, I got to say Voyager went to hell after like the 3rd or 4th season and the final episode made no sense as a time paradox was created (if Janeway went back in time to "correct" things then that future janeway wouldn't exist and thus couldn't go back in time blah blah blah). Don't even start me on Enterprise.
I hope this reboot thing they are working on turns out well.
If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.
I'm not really into Star Trek that much, but out of all the series I would have to say that my favourite is the Voyager spin-off. I remember watching re-runs of the original Star Trek when I was a kid, and I used to love it, although I was more into Star Wars. Now though, I feel they are too dated to be watched seriously. Next Generation was quite good, but I thought that Deep Space Nine was dreadful. I bet the trekkies were up in arms when that pile of crap came out.
I think Voyager must have went some way to redeem the spin-off decision. Some of the best ever episodes are from Voyager (I think anyway), especially the two part special called on the back of a scoprion (or something like that, cannot remember what it is called exactly) wherein Janeway finds that she has no choice but to join forces with The Borg, in order to fight this new species that is wiping out everything - even the borg! Come to think of it, I don't think I ever saw the final episode of Voyager, so I still don't know if they got home.
Enterprise for me was a big disappointment. I hate shows when they go all prequel-ish and show the origin of characters. It's a nerdy gimmick taken from comic books for plot developement. I know the premise behind Star Trek, so I have no need for a whole series dedicated to telling it. All the technology is purposely crap to somehow relate that this is how they started out, therefore their logic dictates that nothing would work reliably! Not for me, although I do see where hardcore fans would like that sort of thing.
If there is to be a new spin-off, I would like it to be set in the same era as either Pikard or Kirk. I believe there is a movie being made, and I heard that Matt Damon is going to be Kirk. Is this true? Has anyone any info on it?
Its a toss up for Next Generation and Voyager for me.
Voyager's stories are increadibly good (well, except for anything that focused on Kes....she was horrible).
But both are equally as great to me. The worse is Enterprise.

I like the Voyager episodes. I record them every afternoon still so I can watch them at night. They can be very thought provoking.
There aren't many shows like the Voyager episodes anymore on television. It seems like we've fallen into a funk or something. Reality t.v. rules and brain power is at a minimum. It's a shame too because I think great shows like Voyager are inspiring and can get people motivated for our space program, science, and exploration.

It all seems so stupid
It makes me want to give up
But why should I give up
When it all seems so stupid
That's a really good point Kimmar. I bet a lot of people from NASA were first inspired when they were kids, by shows just like Star Trek. Of course you get these small minded people who say we should not spend money on a Space program. They fail to see the bigger picture. As I see it, the whole purpose of humanity is to endeavour and to better ourselves. This in turn means exploration, and understanding. As a spiecies, we have to find another home rather than Earth, as one day in the future, our world will not sustain itself. There are loads of ways that this could (and will) happen. Even if we sat back and did nothing, the world would eventually be consumed by the Sun (seeing as we are ever so slightly being pulled towards it). Of course these events are not for a vast amount of time, that will not affect us now, but that's not the point.
Speaking of points - I've sort off drifted off topic. I know what you mean though Kimmar, and even though I am from UK, I still get bombarded with the same lame ass reality shows that you guys get. I hope they make a completely new Star Trek soon. Maybe one that will have some bearing on the movie.
I like everything Star Trek.
I do not hold DS9,TNG, Voyager any higher than the other. If its on tv I am probably watching them.
The original, ehh... I loved it when I was a kid. But I am not really into it now. If I am up early in the morning I will probably watch it since its either that or the news and everything else is paid programing.
Enterprise, the original showing was well done. The cliff hangers were nuts. I never got pissed off at a TV show for leaving it's audience hanging like Enterprise did until Enterprise. I also accepted it as a fresh start for the franchise that is probably why I did not have to many issues with it. I am going to look at the new movie with the same frame of mind. As far as reruns Enterprise is pretty limited with what they can run without leaving someone baffled asking themselves wtf is going on.
Battlestar Galactica and its last episode had a pretty dam good cliff hanger as well.
I like The Next Generation best, it's the series that introduced me to Star Trek. Also, Picard is better than Kirk because while they're both bald, Picard has no need to cover it up.
I enjoyed Deep Space Nine alot, the darker atmosphere was always interesting. It was interesting to watch the Klingons fleshed out so much later in the series, and see Warf finally redeem his family. I kind of liked Enterprise though I think they really blew a few good opportunities with that show. What I think I enjoyed the most was how they approached Star Trek problems without classic Star Trek technology. Transporters....more like shuttles, raise shields.....oh wait, phasers....meh.
theres 1 star trek for me, Star Trek The Next Generation, this is the best star trek period, theres a marathon on right now and I am watching it as I type =D, voyager wasn't that bad either.
But that new show enterprise, i think that show is crap, I just totally hate it for some reason
I'd vote for Voyager, but for some reason I haven't been able to vote on these forums for months. The poll and options show, but I don't have an actual "vote" button.
As for my choice, it is a toss-up between Next Gen and Voyager. I'd like to say Next-Gen because it was truely of the best quality, but because of my age and the decade I grew up in I have to go with Voyager. I can watch Next Gen without getting bored at all, but I like my Sci-Fi with a little more edge. I also like when they take something already great and give it a major twist. Voyager started out a little corny too, but it really took a strong leap forward toward the end of the first season.
As for Enterprise, I loved the show, but for different reasons than why love the other Star Trek shows. The Creed song trailer and seeing the first images of the ship and uniforms really hyped me up for it.
Oh, and I think I am more excited about the likely chances of a new TV Series(Post-Nemesis hopefully) because of the new movie than the movie itself. Still looking forward greatly to the movie though.
I'd have to say Atlantis is probably the best series because the characters interact so well together. SG-1 is good, especially with O'Neill, but I still would give the edge to Atlantis.
We are talking about Stargate, right?
Look at the title

omg, omg...
i LOVE star trek. all of them. from the time i was a very little girl, and my mom would always let me stay up later than my older sister, cause she knew i was a fan while my sister was not.
i have to say that next generation was definitely my favorite. followed by voyager in a close second.. actually, no.. they both tie in first.
the original was, to say the least, awesome. it definitely set the standard for the multiple series that followed.
next gen was ultimately the coolest.
ds9 was great, i really enjoyed it, but it didn't meet my expectations after loving the original and ng for so long.
i loved how voyager actually had a kind of plot to the series as a whole, it was all about a group of lost people, their journey in a new unknown space, trying to make their way back home. though i do have to say i was disappointed that they didn't show how they adapted back into the earth culture after being gone for so long, especially with characters like seven and the doctor. though voyager was definitely one of my favs, i kinda felt like... :O after 7 years.. thats it?!
enterprise... well... lets just say enterprise was the red-headed step-child of star trek.. it was cheesy, and it just didn't feel like star trek to me, and i just found it hard to get into. both me and my mother as long time trekkies agreed on that one.
oh, and, op, i totally agree 100% with you on your opinions of janeway, seven, and the doctor. couldn't have said it better myself. and the doctor is by far my favorite character.
that said.. i can't wait to see the new star trek movie. and i definitely hope that, if there is a new series, it will be one that all serious star trek fans can love just as much as their favorites.
and i know i'm kinda getting off topic.. but i was also somewhat a fan of roddenberry's earth: final conflict. not the best series ever, but i did enjoy it.. anyone else?
