Yeah, well I remember hearing good things about newegg, but I checked the site out and it seemed to only sell parts individually.  Knowing me I'd probably snap the motherboard in half or something, so putting it together myself is out of the question.

I may, however, be very blind.  I find this to be the case in many of life's situations, and often think about getting myself declared legally so.  I'm gonna go check, but in case I don't find anything, is there like, a configurator or something on the site?  Or do they even put things together for you?

You're looking for all of this as a whole.

You might as well just get it at the place you where talking about.  Newegg.com sells all their pieces seperate.

okay, this may sound like a stupid question, but how difficult is it to put together one of these computers.  like, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being about as hard as making a PBJ sandwich, 10 being about as hard as assembling a nuclear warhead from 10 rubber bands, a bottle of super glue, and a telephone.

Also, would I need to buy anything to asseble it / could I assemble it in my house (my kitchen i guess, cuz it isn't carpeted) / if I DO break the motherboard in half, could I get another one?

Okay, those would be my current insecurities/retardations.  You may have noticed I like the forward slash.  Maybe I'll mix it up with some back slashes next time.

Oh, and btw, my range is around 0-650 bucks.  I forget if I said so before, but I don't need a monitor either.

    1.

If you can use Legos you can put a computer together.  It's all common sense.

If you break your motherboard, that's your own doing and you'd have to pay to get another.  If the motherboard didn't work,  then you'd be able to get a free one, etc.

And yes, you can build your  PC in your kitchen.

Thanks guys.  You've now instilled within me enough confidence for me to consider buying from newegg.  I will now waste the next hour or so of my life throwing together a system =D

And btw (on a completely random side-note) wth is up with AMD processors?  Why would they name it 2700+ if it only reaches 2.17GHz?  I mean, thats really misleading to idiots like me.  Then again, I guess I just answered my own question.

to the public, intel is said to be the king, but to a smaller community, AMD's are well known for better performance and reliability. The number at the end is just a model number, has nothing to do with the Ghz. But, the higher the number, the more expensive/better it is (higher ghz, front side bus, etc) And putting together a computer is quite simple, ur motheboard will come with directions, and just be careful and dont force anything into place. Make sure thats where it goes and how it goes. If you have any questions, just jump on the boards and we will answer them. ::::28::

  • DjinDjin Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,263

    *sigh*

That's a huge reasons why Intel sells more then AMD.

If the adverage Joe [lets say you] walks into a computer store and sees two CPUs.

    Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
    AMD XP 3000+ [2.2Ghz]

You'd probably get the Intel, since we've all be taught this... "When you don't know what to get, get the bigger one"

Well, what AMD has done to get these odd ratings is this...  They've made a CPU that runs at a slower clock then Intel, but performs as fast... for example.

An AMD 2500+ [1.83Ghz] runs as fast as an Intel Pentium 4.  They had to do this for the market or AMD wouldn't make any money.

    lol, yeah

so uh, say, could I possibly take you up on the putting-together-a-computer offer of yours disrupt?  I spent too long just looking for a processor.  Plus I have to go to sleep, like, right now.  Basically something around $650 with similar or better stats.

Thanks guys, I owe you much belly button lint.

PHEW!  stupid copying and pasting...  Anywho, with 20 minutes of posting done, I'll get on to my problems/questions or whatever.

    1) Is all this stuff compatible?  I'm pretty sure it all is, but just in case I missed a thing or two (or my usual million), I'd like a second pair of non-computer-idiot eyes. (aka, any eyes but mine)

    2) The case (My #1 problem, placed in #2 for unexplainable reasons).  Bah...  Okay, so I saved this lil' bugger for the end.  Why?  both of the CD/DVD thingie madoodles I got give measurements of 5", yet there are only 3.5" and 5.25" available for cases at newegg.  Furthermore, the cd burner that I am thinking of replacing the first item with seems to be a little under 1.75" (using a ruler measuring from top to bottom).  So whats going on here?  Am I crazy or what?  Okay, so don't answer that last question, just the one before.

    3) Is the sound card compatible with any old speaker set?  Also with my mother board?

PHEW!  and thats all folks.  God that took me too long.  I swear, so much crap built up on my computer it takes a good hour just changing to another browser...image

I see you went cheap on the motherboard. The ram in question is ddr400 (pc3200) meaning that it is not compatible with the motherboard, which uses ddr333 or 266. Also, try ur best to get a gig, cuz new games require alot of memory. The hard drive is decent, but i suggest going with an 8mb cache, which is much faster than 2mb. The processor is good, but for 160, you could upgrade the motherboard and go with an amd 64 2800. with are about 150 or so. The video card is alright, but if ur gonna play eq or those high end games, i suggest going with a 9600 pro or xt. The pro is going for 115 right now, which is very good. The xt is higher but better performance. The sound card isnt the best, and you will have onboard sound. But, if you have a nice speaker system, then get the 6 channel sound card. I dont see a reason to get 2 of the same cd drives. you should get a cd/rw and a dvd rom. This is good for copying cd's and watching dvd's. Even tho it will be faster to copy with 2 of the same drives, it isnt a necessity.

Yeah i agree with disrupt he would probably be better off with a 2800+ A64 and the 8MB cache HD i just build a system not really high end but not bad i build it for about 700 bucks all the parts and stuff i put in it along with prices i put in there they are in that computer deals, help and advice one take a look my bro is happy with it and dont run bad at all =)

Thanks a bunch man, I really appreciate it.  It's a little too evident that without ur guys' help my new computer would resemble something of a heap of metal and plastic that can electricute me.

Oh, and I have looked through the other computer topic for a little bit until I realized that theres probably not enough time left in my life even just to skim through it.

    Power Supply
Try and find a case with a power supply already in it, this will save money, but it wont be the best out there. the rest you can configure urself, its simple, get like rounded cables, a case you like, and whatnot.

Sweeeeet!!!!  Okay, the system rocks, but money is kinda killing me here.  I've got a quick question for now - can you dual channel with ram of 2 different amounts (256/128)  or with two different brands (Kingston/Rosewill)?  Or does it work with all DDR as long as they fit the mother board?

dual channel only works with the exact same ram. Hyper X in dual channel mode will rule all. And that is an awesome system, but remember, quality isnt always cheap. lol
