About trial period and MMORPGs

Hello, First post here

I'm a Ragnarok Online player for almost 2 years now...
By now, I'm looking for another MMORPG to play, but I've seen few of them offer Trial Periods,
how can i say I'm going to like the game if I can't even plya it like one day or one week...

Actually, I think I may be interested in Saga of Ryzom, SWG or in few month WoW or EQ II
Ryzom is 49.99€ (I live in europe) and only offer 1 free month when 1 month subscription is 12.90€. I'm ok with supporting the game developpers and buy the game, but I think this price is quite disproportionnate. It's quite expensive for a try...

Feel free to answer.

well i wouldnt call that 1month "free" since you buy the game i would say you very much pay for that first month,,,, but anyways i think most mmorpgs got like 7 og 14 days free trials when they been out for a while,, but new mmorpgs well they dont really need a trail to attract new ppl so i gues thats why they dont have it??? hehe

But i would def say go for WoW or EQ2 ,, thats 2 major titles that looks very promishing depending on wether your into PvP or not,,,

and WoW guestimate is like 1½ month from now about there i think???

I have to agree... that Free Month is largely a PAID one...
But as I said in my first post, I see the game price more as a support of developpers than a payment for the ability to actually play... and this way I think 49.99€ (almost $60 or so) is TOO EXPENSIVE.

As for now, I've decided yet which game I'll go for... Definitely, EQ II and WoW look very very attractive

i would say if you like PvP then WoW and if you like PvE then EQ2

Well, the difference you are looking at is whether it's a beta or not. WoW and EQ2 will be huge betas with tons of people because of the advertising and hype for these two games. The big problem with betas is that if a tornado hits your server farm and destroys you character, then too freakin bad, suck it up. Also, there is no obligation in betas that people offer support for you. From what I here, WoW closed beta players hardly ever see or here of GMs and EQ2 has, well, SOEs support and we all know about that. An example of odd and flaky SOE support shown last night on EQ while I was playing on EMarr... they had a GM or Guide come on and annouce serverwide that he would be there to take any direct tells concerning questions about their upcoming Fan Fair... he was there for about 10 min before annoucing that he was leaving and thanked everyone for their questions. Two of my guildies had been waiting patiently for an answer to their questions and got nothing. image

The good thing about the released games is that they are there to keep customers. You have support and the companies will (or should) bend over backwards to make your experience top-notch.

So, I guess the question you should ask yourself is: "Will I get mad if my character is deleted?" If yes, buy a game so you don't have a bad time, if no, wait for or play the betas that are coming. image

    HAYO!!

    HAYO!!

Excuse me but I think you did not get what i said correctly...

What I meant was : I'm OK to pay for the client of a MMORPG but I think 60$ is way too much if in these 60$ I only get 1 "free" month of play time... I never thought about Betas...

Look at Ragnarok Online... the client software (IE the game you install) is FREE, absolutely no charge, no CD key to acquire... You get a 15Days Trial, then pay 12$ / month
