How's the crafting ? I am crafting and just want to hear from those who are a bit more advanced. How's the crafting at levels above newbie ? Worth pushing ?
?I really enjoy crafting good gear for anyone that wants what I can make.
It takes quite a bit of experimenting just to learn how a craft works and what mats are good for what. And a lot depends on what craft you select.
You'll need to learn how to forage Excellent and Supreme mats -- one of the best parts of Ryzom for many of us.
You'll need to take down named mobs and boss mobs with group support usually from a guild you join.
Its probally best to put off trying to make good gear till you are over 100 in skill and a lot put it off till 150 or 200.
There are some max Q150 PR zones that I believe you can start digging Supreme mats in when you are pR forage lev 100. And there are like 3 named mobs in every lev 50-100 zone that drop Excellent Q110 mats, and 1 boss that drops Supreme Q120 mats.
At lev 250, there are 4 PR Q250 diggable zones that have Supreme mats, 3 boss's per zone, 5 named mobs per zone;; and 1 above ground zone per civilization with the same but only up to Excellent mats can be dug above ground.
Practically all the good loot in Ryzom are mats that have to be crafted into good equipment.
Its a lot of work to level a craft but a big part of the game if you got the time to do it.

The answer is simple: all the stuff in ryzom is player crafted.
Crafting is complex, with the thousand variations you have in mixing the mats, the plans are only a list of mats, but you have to discover the best recipes experimenting with mats.
In Silan there are only two materials grade: basic and fine. Once you go to mainland, you will have: basic, fine, choice, excellent and supreme mats. Materials can be quartered from animals or dug out from sources using harvesting, or traded with other players.
And the best recipes are not the one using only supreme mats, the system is more deep and need experimenting to discover the right mix.
Ryzom is a crafter's paradise People jealously guard their favorite recipes, and the NPC stuff is crap and there are no real armor/weapon drops. All the good stuff is made by players.

I've been searching so long for a game that is not centered around doing dungeons all the time (ie. has a really good craft system).
What is especially good about crafting in Ryzom is the number of parameters that you can modify - all depends on the mats used of course but they are sooo numerous and as a result there are sooo many possibilities for item spetsialisation.
In magic amplifiers (magic gloves) you can make healing ones, nuking ones, support class ones, more powerful ones, faster ones etc etc. In jewels you can modify all the various protection and resistance stats - have certain spells resisted a lot better than others bu rarely can have them all As a result at massive PvP (OP wars) hardcore players usually have two sets of jewels with different resistances and equip the second set when the enemy supposedly has the resistance values on the first one figured by trial and error
And when we talk about Focus jewels used for foraging it's a totally different matter - there you have different area protections - better for desrt, lakes or forests...
Crafting in Ryzom is a lot batter than ANY other game on the market...
There are markets in every town - though by some whim of fate high lvl crafters favor lower lvl cities to market their wares There are also many auctions held at any given time on main game forums where people sell anything from mats, NPC Boss armor and PvP Jewels to Plushie Yubo -toys (ig) and fireworks
There is also an RP guild Atysian Traders that sells almost anything to anyone anywhere.
However the ig currency is a bit undervalued since it's rather easy to get with all those crafting and foraging possibilities so people usually deal in craft grind materials instead of money.
With Crafting so good, is there a market to sell items or is everyone a crafter?
thats a good question actually it's fair to say the ratio of crafters::non crafters is probably a bit high, however i dont have any issues selling things through the ingame shops. put a handful of swords and daggers up every week at 5000% markup and they sell well
A lot of established guilds are self sufficient - was trying to work out if Team Spirit are when writing this and you know i think we arent People are picky though so its hard to sell crap, and uber rare crafted items generally will be sold/exchanged with private sale.
The biggest issue for lower level crafters is that the higher level ones will generally make stuff for free if asked so can be hard to get on the ladder.. Probably the best way is to advertise, shout in /region, have a few sets of what you sell on merchants, etc, etc

Something to point out here is that crafters become ridiculously wealthy (in game-money) without needing to sell to players to get that way. The NPC merchants will buy the things you make for a fair price, and you will soon have more money than you could spend on anything reasonable.
That's why when you do need to buy something from a player, you will most likely be asked to make your purchase either with many many mats that the crafter can then use to practice their skills with, or perhaps you'll just be asked to provide the mats required to make the item you want.
Example: A few days ago one of my guildmates needed a new set of focus-boosting jewelry. The level he needed was at my limit (I'm a middle-level jewel crafter) so it took me quite a few tries before I got all of the pieces crafted at full quality. (A set of jewelry is 10 pieces of 6 different kinds, each using 6-10 mats depending on the quality of the crafting plans.)
I gave the guildie his jewels, and then I sold all of the "degrades" (items that had flaws when crafted) to the NPC stableboy, and made over 200000 dappers profit. The mats required I dug up in less than an hour including travel time, crafting took maybe 10 minutes.
SO, while there is plenty of market for crafted items, you'll want to charge your customers in mats, because that's where the value is.
One other thing - although many people do some crafting, every crafted item requires a separate skill, so although you may be a master 2-handed sword crafter, you will need to buy your armor, jewelry, magic amplifiers, etc. etc. from someone else who has those skills. I've never heard of anyone getting even close to being a master of all crafts.
I dont know about other players but I find my crafting cant keep up with my other skills.......I'm only specializing in armor and melle weps and still im 30 levels below my otehr skills and falling....The biggest problem I keep running into is finding the right mats....It seems like I always have a ton of one or two items and none of the other items I need.......

i like that 'only' thats 16 branches to 250 for amour and however many melee weapons there are
but yeah crafting is hard work, gets better when your harvesting is high level but still you have 0 chance of keeping up with crafting so many things
