Cheated out of Open Beta

Anyone else buy the Pre Order thinking they would get into open beta only too realize that there were no more keys left?

Happened to me at when I tried Gamestop and Amazon. Then I went to target and bought 5 sets of pre-order codes for 99 cents a piece and hooked myself and some friends up.

Cheated how? You can take the preorder back and get your $10 back, no questions asked. I randomly was in Best buy, saw the preorder, and said... ah what the heck, might as well, and I got it and I am in OB. It didn't wait outside the day the preorders were coming or anything, just randomly picked it up so I really don't feel too bad for you as there was plenty of time to get a copy.

Or you can just order from D2D....

It's the simplest way to do things i think... and you can just download the manual. and you are assured to receive an OB code

I thought the codes were a while supplies last kind of thing?

    ^^^^^^

probably the easiest way to do it. Tho you have to dish out the full payment right away. You are atleast guaranteed your codes. (I did mine through D2D but only cuz i trust mythic from my experience with DAoC.) Codes come to ur e-mail after you pay, quick and easy. Put them into ur master account and ur rdy for the weekend .

Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.

Well seeing as how I was guaranteed a beta spot due to my attendance at their Baltimore Convention, and I didn't get it, I don't believe a word Mythic says.  Funny, my buddy that attended with me got in, and his PC isn't even close in performance to the rig I have...you'd think my dxdiag in and of itself would have been enough to get in.

  • CereoCereo Member Posts: 551

Just an FYI, they LIKE beta testers that do not have good specs. They don't need people that have maxed out $3,000 rigs, its obvious it will work. They want Johnny Nojob with a 300mhz compaq to try and run the game :)

Also, I didn't want to double post here but lies are lies, Traelin. See below:

Games Day Baltimore (June 14, 2008) and Games Day Toronto (June 21, 2008) are quickly aporoaching and we have some exciting news for fans of WAR. Simply stop by our booth at either Games Day Baltimore or Toronto to play Warhammer Online, and you will receive an invitation to the Closed Beta and an exclusive in-game item - the Skaven Skin Cloak!*

For more information about Games Day Baltimore and to purchase tickets click here. For more information about Games Day Toronto and to purchase tickets click here. If you are unable to make it to these events, never fear! We’ll see you in Chicago and LA with more beta invites and Skaven Skin Cloaks to give away.

*One set of codes per player. Entrance into the Closed Beta is not guaranteed. You must be 18 years or older to enter the beta, and cannot be employed in the video game industry. Timing of beta invitation is dependent on computer system specs and other factors. See full disclaimer at the end of the newsletter.

So where did they LIE to you? I am not seeing it anywhere.

I don't like how they are doing that.. based on computer specs. Just because I upgraded my computer so I can play the more recent games means I'm not allowed or wanted for testing a game, even if I have a record of testing games and giving good, clean, accurate feedback. Computer specs are worthless when it comes to a proper tester...

But we all know that OB is just a preview and isn't for testing purposes so again I don't understand why they would do that.

Sorry as a games tester myself and part of an experienced QA team this is untrue.

They require a cross section of machines, it is not a given that high spec machines will work. The probability is high but we need people with the ATI 4870s in SLI, just as much as we need to test people using just one GeForce 7800.

I have seen people make out their machine was uber to try and get into a beta, I have also seen people make out it was worse than it is, so much as to use DxDiags from machines they won't use, or to even edit them.

At the end of the day only the QA team knows what machines they need at that particular time.

    Is QQ appropriate here?

  • The problem is that for some strange reason each retailer actually has a different package.

Even buying a box may be different.  Best Buy gives youa box with a code in it.  Other ones you have to get an email.

Also D2D always gives me problems I htink it hates my credit card for some reason.  I just went to Best Buy.

Wrong. Not only did I talk to Games Workshop on the phone, I talked to the Devs at the booth (who, coincidentally are developing it about 10 minutes from my house) and the Baltimore Convention was apparently the only convention that guaranteed a Beta slot. That comment you posted is directed at the other Conventions.

I'm not crying dude.  I could give two craps if I don't play the game, as I have too much other crap in my life at the moment that won't allow me to play beyond casual for the next 6 months.  So I'd be behind everyone else anyways.  But when a business tells you one thing and does another, it pisses me off.  Although I guess it makes it easy for me to determine who I have a business relationship with in the future.

Further proof. On the back of my card from the Baltimore Convention:

"USE OF THIS CODE WILL RESERVE A SPOT FOR YOU IN THE WARHAMMER ONLINE BETA TEST"

I didn't necessarily expect to get into the pre pre Beta, but ANY Beta would have been nice.

EDIT: And the Baltimore Convention you're posting about is from this year.  I went to the one before my wife was pregnant, so it was last year sometime.

I preorder from Gamestop on 08/26 and received my open beta and head start keys the next day.

So you didn't participate in the Preview Weekend Event?  That was for all contest winners aka omg YOU ...CB Testers, CE Collector's Edition Pre Orders and 50k SE pre orders...hardly sounds like a rip off to me.  YOu'd of gotten into a Beta Event with that code...OMG whats this?! The Code gets you into Open BEta OMG?! what the hell dude stop QQing.

Open beta is restricted to Pre orders, Beta Testers, Contest Winners, and File planet Paying Subscribers (in a limited amount).....so whats the Bitch moan problem here?

If you didn't get into PW with the code then you most likely weren't paying attention to know that all you had to do was Create a Master Account, Create a Warhammer Online Account under that account, then enter your contest keys and OMFG you'd of been in the Preview weekend and if you do it in time you'll be in Open Beta.

They went based on computer specs like ALL  Game companies for CLOSED Beta Only.  Anyone and anyone that has a code got in for PW and for the up coming Open Beta...stop QQing if you dont know what your talking about.

Computer specs are yes worthless for Proper Testing but it helps to know an exact controlled range when trying to determine what Engine or Game System is causing a bug.   If they let any jackass build in there it could come down to their computer simply being crap and nothing wrong with the game at all.

sorry for the Double Post..it just Irks me when people post completely incorrect assumptions as the truth.  IF you want in Open Beta next week use your Code from gamesday and stop crying people.

Ignoring all the playerisms in you post, I have been following this game on and off since well before most people on here have.  I've been registered since sometime last year, again I don't remember since when, but it was before the Baltimore Convention last year, maybe April or May?  Once you registered, they contact you via email to let you know you got in, like they did my buddy.

You're missing the point entirely.  It's not about pissing and moaning, it's about pointing out the fact that a business promised one thing and delivered another.  It could have been a bag of coal for all I care, I didn't receive it.  That's it.

Hits about plagerism on an mmo board... really?

The correct solution would have been for you to drive to Target.  Grab a pre-order box, head to the nearest checkout counter, and slap down that big dollar bill.  Yes, all this moaning over a dollar folks.  Seriously. ;)

    word to the wise

    STOP PREORDERING ONLINE.

Jeminy Christmas, what is up with you people lol. I got mine for 99 cents at Target and got the keys...CE preorder for 10 bucks at Best Buy...got the keys.

Guys. Stop ordering off the internet. NEVER preorder MMOs off the internet.
