A lonely existance?

MelwynMelwyn Member Posts: 41

Hey everyone. I've been interested in this game for a while because it's 'Star Trek' and I myself am one of those TNG DS9 fans who wasn't keen on TOS, didn't like Voyager and has no real opinion one way or the other on Enterprise, it's okay.

I'm also a huge fan of those character examining/building episodes that some people seem to really not like on these forums.

This is my thought: If we're all captains of our own ships, won't that make for very lonely gameplay? Or if not, very cluttered gameplay?

I don't think anyone but the devs can honestly answer that.

Everyone here will give you their opinions based on no more information than what you have seen for yourself.

I dont have much hope in games that are inspired on TV shows. BUT, it's Star Trek. The good thing of this game is that you can play in space and on ground. We will have the best of both worlds!

edit: looking for guild or potential alliances!

the second video on this page explains a  lot:

Cryptic has stated that they are incorporating in the game ways to promote a social experience for all. What these mechanics are remain to be seen but they seem to be on top of it. Starbases, Planets, Fleets, Task Forces and recreational activities come to mind as ways to bring players together. I wouldn't worry about it so much as the only way to be anti-social in an MMO is if you choose to be that way. The social aspects will be there but it's up to the individual players to take advantage of them.

Did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby? Just wondering and my questions makes just as much sense as the one you are asking.

No, but she did teach me literacy and comprehension, not to mention courtesy. Since however it seems yours didn't I'll explain for you what I meant.

In a game like WoW, you can travel around in large groups and such. Following so far?

Now, in this game since you're captain of your own ship, it seemed to me that you'd be flying around in a ship all by yourself more often then not.

I myself am a social gamer and found the thought lonely. The question was directed at those with a sense of imagination, or someone who might have read somewhere how they plan to do groups. It was also meant to lead into an open discussion and speculation about how they might work around this. It was not intended for mean-spirited commenters like yourself with nothing to add.

So, I'm still looking for discussion from those of you who might have thoughts on the subject at hand, rather then idle meaningless comments meant to pointlessly rial.

Hmm, took longer to get a reply then I thought. To be honest, I just saw this as a stupid question and I treated it as such.

What does it matter if each person has thier own ship? There should still be a chat function and I think you are expecting a captain's view. It looked to me like more of a Eve type view from the outside of the ship. They also said you will be able to work together in the game to take on the more dangerous opponents. Honestly, I see no difference between teaming in this game and any other at this time.

Well, the question does make sense, i admit it is not well thought through andu can give the answer to that on your own with a bit of  thinking.....wow has a tank, a healer, a dd, supporter and so on.....youll propably will have the same or sth like it here, attacking a borg cube? (for example) what about a battlecruiser as a tank, a nebula cruiser as some kind of healer, expanding its shields whatever, u know what i mean.....in one way or the other i think its gonna be a bit like that.

The way u responded, by insulting the op == fail, nothin more to say about that

I tell you what would be ridiculously freaking awesome. I'd be social if they incorporated the mic and webcam so you could actually view it "onscreen" on the ship for ship to ship communication. Guaranteed if nothing else being hailed and actually having to talk back to someone would get you into the game and into the spirit of things. I'd shat myself if this was put in

I can agree with the voice part but I don't really want to see some fat 40ish guy in a dirty t-shirt when I hail someone's ship. Just the thought of it gives me the shivers bad. No I think voice would be more than enough.

I usually cry foul when immersion comes up and agree with Bren here. It'd be a total mood killer if I'm chatting with an "Andorian" and the person on the viewscren didn't have blue skin and antennae.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

Yeah after looking at some of the OPs previous posts I realised my response was too harsh. Just seemed to be leading into one of those "WITHOUT PLAYER CREWS THIS GAME WILL BE THE SUXXORS!!!!11!!!111!!" posts.

Hopefully it will be our on-screen avatars that's "on screen" when we're hailing each other, of course that means there won't be any lip movements unless they employ some very fancy real-time lip-synching technology that probably doesn't exist yet :)
