Need serious solutions

Ok this by no means is an attack on anyone? So please don't come here to defend, attack, flame, troll or whatever you want to call it. If that is your intent, then please don't post anything. Positive feedback on a solution is what we need here.

PROBLEM: Too much hate posting is occuring in all the game forums and it really needs to end.

1st off have I been guilty of Flaming, Trolling, Attacking, Defending etc...? YES.

Am I the only one? NO

Is it getting out of hand? YES

Can we find a Solution? YES

This happens in all the MMO Forums in some form or another, and there has to be a way for us game fans to agree or disagree with each other without personally attacking each other. The common trend I see anymore is people attacking people for enjoying a game that they don't enjoy and people attacking people for not enjoying a game they enjoy.

I understand that these are forums and this is where people come to discuss games and their opinions. Your absolutely correct and you as a member or guest of this site have that right to post your opinion. When do things it get out of hand? In "MY" opinion there is a difference between sharing your opinion about a game and making it your mission to make sure any new person doesn't even get the chance to form their own opinion. Why? because if you look at all the post title threads in all the game forums that have been released or still in beta have been nothing but hate filled threads.

Do I have a solution? No, but I am seriously thinking of possible solutions to offer to the Community Manager.

I personally feel that in any game that if you don't like a game for whatever reason, then you should say your peace and move on. <----Is this the best possible solution, some say yes and some say no. Is it the easiest thing to do? obviously not or we wouldn't be here discussing this.

What I really would like to know is what possible solutions can we "gaming fans" come up with to end or at least tone down as much as possible all the negativity that has pretty much plagued these forums so that we can get back to enjoying games we love to play.

So please by all means offer up a possible solution or suggestion that you might think will help tone things down.

You could sign up to become a Mod and encourage others to become Mods also.   More Mods = better forum policing.      I would sign up but i am too biased.

After the complete take-over of the AoC main discussion forum just prior to release until even today, I feel pretty strongly about this too. I had quite a few game-related questions I really wanted to get answered there but didn't ask because I knew that I'd get half a dozen or more Anti-AoC replies.

The only workable solution is to take forums like this and to add on another forum just for game-related questions. If the trolls travel to the new forums they should be warned, then temp banned. There is a point where these people cross the line from constructive criticism and feedback to destroying what makes MMORPG.com so great. I come here instead of the official Game forums because you deal with the same population(for good or bad), and you get to post in forums that are quick moving, but not too quick.

Not every game forum needs this, just ones that get out of hand like the AoC GD forum. MMORPG.com wouldn't be doing this for the Game Devs, they would be doing it for the people who support and use their site.

Do we really want to frenquent a site where our views are silenced by over zealous mods? Do you really want all the policing that you seem to be asking for?  I just disregard attack posts and go on; does it really hurt your feelings that much? I am offended every day, but I dont cry about it I just go on and think "well, why should I care about this dipshits opinion of me"!!

Well, I've been on both sides of this argument. I've tried to be reasonable and give an honest and forthright opinion of a game -or specifics of a game- and I've also succumbed to the mindless thrashing of rabid fanboys and haters. However, if you expect mods to guide the discussion, it will take an effort by helping them. From the depth of your post, I think you are willing to offer such help. What you need to do is engage these trolls with civil discourse, and then let them make the mistake of going off on a tangent. Once that happens (and it will), you can report them.

I used to utilize the block option, but all that really did was allow me to view all the responses to a post I didn't feel was worthy of response to begin with, not really an effective measure in my book. I know this isn't much of a solution, but it's all you can really do on your own. The report feature does work for trolls, although it takes time. Just don't report people for every dissenting opinion, they can be just as valid as one from an enthusiast.

I don't think I agree. I get banned a lot on this forum although I'm not confrontational at people.

I visit a few forums and this one is by far the most strict one.

I think forums are actually  taking all this modding way too far. One of the thing I absolutely hate are forums where people are modded with +1 or -1. This post would be at -10 by now, I swear, just because I give an opinion that not everyone agrees with. Still I manage to put out a coherent post and don't flame.

Some people are just out to get a response, and I try to ignore them as much as I can. But as long as there are no personal attacks in the post I think it would be wise to let them speak their mind. The greatest scientists had opinion that didn't conform with the majority of the public but everyone let them voice their opinion.

In short, I don't want more moderation on this forum, I think it's more than ok the way it is.

I think you are basically asking for solution on behavior resulting from human nature, which is simply not possible. Its in us and where better to reflect our nature than on an anonymous internet forum.

Asking for solution to forum flaming is kinda akin to some UN guy thinking "There's so much violence and wars going on, we need some kind of serious solution for this." ... I don't know dude, people been at this for millenia.

Subscribtions: EVE, SWTOR WOW, WAR, DDO, VG, AOC, COV, FFXI, GW, RFO, Aion
    +plenty of F2P, betas, trials

Female Dwarf player: WOW, VG, WAR, DDO
    .
Due to the recent economic crisis and spending cuts the light at the end of the tunnel was turned off. Sincerely, God.

I can see your point. I know it isn't possible to get rid of it altogether, but maybe figure out a may to atleast tone it down. Alot of it is on the shoulder's of the person posting. I think more mods are needed to help curve it a bit. Im not sure if this is an unrealistic approach but perhaps a mod is needed to monitor each game's forum.

You really shouldn't be adding a community manager's personal email to you on this public forum (or from any other mod to be honest).

Thats really bad and you could get banned for it.

As for people criticizing or trashing a game, they have the freedom to do that here (which is nice) as long as those who trash the game follows the Rule of Conduct:

    Game Attacks

Unsubstantiated comments about specific or general games will be penalized in nearly the same way attacks against people will. The exception is that you can say mean things about games provided you back it up with reasons.

Example: "Game X sucks." is not a legitimate comment. "Game X sucks, because..." is acceptable

If someone bashes a game and dont say why then /report them. If they say why, then you cannot report them. Its the nature of the beast. A good game will yield good responses and a crappy game likewise.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
