Hey all, I have old account with couple level 10-12 characters and access to Drow race.
Is it viable nowadays to solo compared to grouping, I would like to start the game again but I am worried it will be too much of a quest grind after level 8?
How many hours/days do I need to invest to get past level 12?
Is ranger a good solo class and how should I multiclass it?
Thanks for your time and answers

I think you will have to do quite a lot of quest grinding.

I have a rgr5/fgt2 that works great for ranged & melee dps but not tried soloing. My impression was always that most quests are hard enough in a group Its pretty easy to group but there are weird deadzones like monday night is hard to party.

I don't think that's weird at all. If people are doinga a lot of playing on the weekends then Monday night is the first night f work, school, etc. Probably a lot of things they didn't do on the weekends!
Soloing depends on the class and the quest.
I mostly solo as I just don't like looking for groups and am not social in that way. When I do party I am usually dissapointed as they are blazing throught the content.
A few nights ago I was invited to a party to do some sort of gorge quests. there were several legs of it. I don't know what we were actually doing but it was extremeley fast. I just followed a long and enjoyed the experience but had no sense that I was playing a game and more of a sense that we were in a race.

That is tangleroot gorge. It is a series of quests that are run often, basically all the time because its a quick 1 2 3 shot of quick/good xp and House P favor. The favor helps alot because you can get the hosue P buffs.
There are a number of standard "zergish" xp runs that are baiscally up for running perpetually. Waterworks, Shan-to-kor, tangleroot, gwyaln's stand, stormcleave and some others.
In the later levels like around level 8 some of those like gwylan's and stormcleave are much much better xp than other things available and if you do not get in a few zerg groups for them you will wind up staying at level 8 for a much longer time. Like triple the time.
The xp flow is not all that well put together IMO. So you get these zerg groups.
And yes it is a very different experience from solo, although it is easy and quick xp.
Dunno what to tell you I solo quite a bit. A lot of people don't and frankly they kind of suck because of it. I was playing my wizard rogue the other day. I was in one of the Tombs in necropolis on hard. I had to shrine and told the party that I was. As I am waiting for the rest bar to finish i see people start to go down. So I sneak over see all their soulstones, pull off a couple wights and kill them with firewall. Kill the rest of the spawn with another firewall grab all their soulstones and go back to the shrine. They were all amazed. But that is exactly the kind of thing you have to do all the time to solo without paying assloads in repairs or making any real progress.
Anwyay the best soloers are probably warforged wizard/sorceror or clerics. Warforged being immune to hold person and negative levels is pretty huge for solo. Self healing saves you ALOT of money.
There are ways to make either one of those good melee types if you like. Although in later levels being in melee range can be very dangerous and going mostly caster may be better
