Threads are starting to spring up on the official SWG forums complaining about the way TCG is being handled in the economy. Some people are spending real $ to sell them for huge amounts of ingame credits, and the crafters/merchants aren't too happy about that and SOE are making money off that method and they won't do anything about it.
A quote from one thread:
SOE are probably laughing all the way to the bank. I know two guys on my server who spent a combined total of nearl $1000 on booster packs the day the card game went live. I doubt they're the only ones to have spent that much money, and I should imagine even more people have bought smaller amounts.
$1000, that's a really bad waste for playing a game.
Anybody who spends $1000 on trading cards for SWG is truly the NGE target market.
anyone who spends that kind of money on this game needs to be Institutionalized. any game for that matter. now soe preys upon those with gambling addiction. perverse!
I find it hard to comprehend anyone that would waste 1000 dollars on swg trading cards, and hope they attend some gambling addiction clinic, i would also say they need to visit a financial adviser, i hope that they dont have children, or family that depends on there income also.

I wish I didn't understand it, but as a former addictions counsellor, I understand it all too well. The loot card mechanics appeal to the same drive that leads people to use slot machines. Some of the important differences between the two, however, are that slots are advertised openly as gambling, they're regulated as such, you own the winnings, and support services are available for those who get in over their heads. With this "loot card lottery," it is not advertised as gambling, it is not regulated, you do not own the winnings, the value of the winnings can be changed at any time, and I'm unaware of any formal support services available. SOE seems to be going out of their way to show us all the loopholes in consumer protection legislation as they relate to online entertainment services. Time will tell if they've figured out all the loopholes on this bad deal correctly or not.
I visited home recently and saw my Sister playing SWG. I watched her load in and saw this whole "Champions of the Force" loading screen.
I ask, "WT-F is that?"
"Oh... it's a trading card game."
"Wha- ? They actually put a card game in an MMO?"
(embarassed tone) "Yeah, they did."
"So instead of fixing bugs, tweaking gameplay, and adding content, they wasted money, manpower, and time on implementing a card game within an MMO?"
".... yeah..."
======
As silly as it sounds on finally seeing it implemented, think of how it actually came into being.
Firstly, SOMEONE had to come up with the bright idea.
"What SWG really, really needs is a TCG."
Secondly, SOMEONE or a group of people had to make a sales pitch to their bosses for this TCG.
"Jefe, we got an idea that could help out the longevity of this game, possibly improve the number of subs we have... by putting in a trading card game!111!!!"
Thirdly, SOMEONE agreed that it would be a good idea in their heirarchy and gave the green light.
"That sounds GREAT!!! This is exactly what this title needs. Do it now!"
"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." For Sale: 1square inch of the air directly infront of me.
Well are you selling the air itself, or just a chance to obtain said air? Might I for example try for the air in front of you and maybe get the air directly behind you... Also, do you reserve the right to change the nature of this air at any time, at your sole discretion?
Here is a question! When you purchase TCG cards do you lease the cards or do you own the cards? I know by paying 15 dollars a month to play SWG you are leasing your characters and you dont own them.
If you own the cards then you should be able to do whatever you want with them if you choose! Like selling them on ebay etc.

As far as i am aware your are tied to exactly the same rules as swg eula, or what ever name they use for it, basicaly no you have no rights over the electronic purchase, so basicaly your leasing the right to use the card.

It looks like the TCG has its very own trading and market forum -

...and just FYI, here is a list of the current loot cards -
