Now this is not a bash towards the game but people really i mean for instance i was watching "Zero Punctuation: Eve Online" And i went to the comments, Go to comments And see a reply like this
"you pretty succinctly pointed out eveything that needed to be said:
Tries to be WoW. Fails miserably."
(Which he did not he just nitpicked the bad things about the game)
I hate comments like this, I wonder if people even know that WoW Was not the first game to ever be made.
I dont know but maybe all this comparing other games to WoW is making me crazy or somthing.

ive meet once a dude in Battelfield 2 who talked with me a bit about MMOG´s...he said that it was Blizzards idee to build a group- and raid-system...
Well, 8-9 Million players started ther MMO-career with WoW and they take all ther experiance out of this...nothing to blame about...but when i read topics like "WoW was a nice underground game wich nobody knew about" i have to start to laugh
Yeah, WoW is a nice "starter" (a.k.a. newbie) mmog...but 80% of ther community just sucks! So i hate WoW just because of ther 14-20 year old Community ... o_O
What about us older gamers...should we hate the 21-26 community?
Just curious because that seems like a silly reason to dislike a game. I have played for quite a bit and of course there are going to be donkies, but the majority of the people I have met have been just fine. Be they 17 or 57. No reason to lump everyone into some lame stereotype.
I mean, come on, really, what could a 26 year old POSSIBLY understand about the ways of the world?
And then some 46 year old can come along and make the same general assumption about me as I am 36 years old, is kind of lame.
Did any of that make sense?
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Oh yeah it sure did.
Don't get me wrong here, I played WoW from beta till BC(got to 70 and done BT) And the game was "Fun" In beta and release till they brought out Battle grounds. I have tried the game again not to long ago, Its dull and boring for me.
I am just sick of people bashing and comparing games to WoW, And even more when they never try the games out for them selfs.
I just the good old days of gaming. lol
EDIT: I am glad some people like the easy mode ways of WoW, But its just not for me anymore.

Well, you need to compare it to something and WoW just HAPPENS to be the best selling MMO of all time...
Since WoW released, i find it much difficult to have a good discussion about mmo concepts.
In fact, since WoW released, the majority of threads i can find contains more flames, more short-minded players (not saying they are dumb, but there is definitively more players who have a very limited point of view on many concepts).
I prefer older MMO's as well. Ultima Online, original EverQuest, Asheron's Call.
Those were some great games and I wish they still were as popular as they were in the past.

You just have to take it in your stride. The ability to form a balanced argument (in the face of an unbalanced one) is an important life skill
I've not played WoW is about 3 months and I've come through the tunnel where I can see people talk about it and not get angry, in fact I want to participate in the discussion.

I think what so many people are really trying to say, and are having trouble actually spelling out, is not that they hate when people compare games to WoW (which is both inevitable and necessary) but when they try to lump the entire game (or worse, group of games) together as either "like WoW" or "not like WoW" and then generalize the entire game based on that one assumption.
yep..
And i too miss all the old mmos..

UO 4 lyfe!
Okay, okay. Just kidding. I did love that game though.
WoW is both a blessing and a curse to MMO gamers. On one hand it means that the budget on these games can go up and we can have a higher quality product. On the other hand, the average IQ of MMORPG gamers is dropped by about 100 and it wasn't all that high to begin with.
To expound on that idea. I am not inferring that children or stupid but that WoW's child-like simplicity has infected other MMO's with people who can't (or won't) use any real form of strategy and make things harder for everybody else. (At least, in games which require the firing of at least two synapses.)
All of that said, if other MMORPG's choose to not copy/paste that particular aspect of WoW, this annoyance should be lessened as time goes on. Until the next Blizzard MMO anyway.
For comparison World of Warcraft is the most widely played MMO of all time, thus your point will hit home on a forum with the most readers.
Why would you make a comparison to a game that nobody has heard of?
