It's easy to take the ugliest picture and compare it to the prettiest one out there and make funny conclusions but the picture I posted is proof that Western cosplayers play as good as any!
I don't really know a whole lot about cosplay. My first real exposure to it was in Boston, when I was visiting friends a few years ago. I went into a mall, and noticed a couple people in uniforms with plastic guns. I figured they were just messing around with some toys, but their uniforms looked freakishly familiar. Inside the mall there was a throng of people in costumes. I thought it was pretty interesting until a 7 foot guy appeared in a Pikachu costume. Freaked me right the hell out. On my way out I realized that the people outside were S.T.A.R.S. people from Resident Evil.
Later that week we went to Salem, on Halloween. Always wanted to do that. There were cosplayers there, among others, and they looked really good. Also there was a unit of Ghostbusters, and they were awesome. And a devil guy on stilts. And a walking corpse thingy. And some pie, it was good pie.

With all due respect, I think the author was just trying to be funny. I've seen lots of cool costumes by the Americans, and not just by the Asians. I've seen lots of cool costumes made by those WOW cosplayers (you can check it out in my website if u want)And they pose really well too. The author might be David Letterman for all we know, ....or House MD.

because majority of those americans who cosplay are just a bit eerrrr.. not right.. it just doesnt suit them. dont get me wrong but asians do it better, hence animes are mostly from japan... but hey i have seen a very few (like very few ) americans who actually looked good.
Ok yall new posters really need to go to a convention and stop takin the joke thread seriously. I been to only 2 and I must say out of 10 that WOULD CATCH YOU EYE, 1 would fail at their cosplay. I been there and I have real proof.

Nope, there are models like anything else. Trendhouses normal pay a model a nice amount of money for wear there outfit/cloth in a attemp to make a profit. Same goes with game industri. There are tons of Boothbabes on various CONS. Here take a look on this:
A model/boothbabe cosdress "something" from Age of Conan. Please notices that for some unknow reason she wear more cloth then the previous Age of Conan booth babes. But there was also some sex scandal, maybe thats why she got more cloth on now. Dunno.
i just dont see why people would pay money on a website to see girls dress up as anime and other fictional characters. That's just odd to me. I can see why people who pay porno sites to see nude models (doing various circus tricks) but to see some girl dressed as Sailor Moon....why would you pay money to see it?
To see the booth girls at various cons is a perk to the conventions. For the most part, people pay money to get into the conventions to see interviews, questions, upcoming games, etc. The booth girls are an added benefit.
I'm sorry....maybe its just me but I just cannot see spending money to see a girl dress up as Aerial or Sailor Moon or anyone else like that.

Also, you can buy cosplay outfits so there is a big difference between homemade and professionally made store bought.

Japan uses professional costume designers and models for thier cosplayers. Of course it looks better then some fan that put her own costume together.
