And again, since I didn't want to take your opinion into consideration, I looked up the 2007 convention as well. First link I clicked on: http://www.gamershell.com/companies/electronic_arts/333285.html EA Mythic today announced the schedule of 2007 events where fans can preview "Warhammer(R) Online: Age of Reckoning(TM)." The highly-anticipated MMORPG will be playable in cities across the United States, and gamers will be given access to the MMO's revolutionary Realm vs. Realm(R) combat. At each event, 50 lucky people will be guaranteed access to the "Warhammer Online" beta.
Guess I really got the wax in there deep, huh? I just won't listen.
Well at least we're making progress. You've gone from a position of "no way was a spot guaranteed", to "well umm 50 spots were guaranteed". Now if you are intent on arguing, call Games Workshop and ask them what it said on the back of their game code cards...
Well seeing as how I was guaranteed a beta spot due to my attendance at their Baltimore Convention, and I didn't get it, I don't believe a word Mythic says. Funny, my buddy that attended with me got in, and his PC isn't even close in performance to the rig I have...you'd think my dxdiag in and of itself would have been enough to get in.
Also, I didn't want to double post here but lies are lies, Traelin. See below:
Games Day Baltimore (June 14, 2008) and Games Day Toronto (June 21, 2008) are quickly aporoaching and we have some exciting news for fans of WAR. Simply stop by our booth at either Games Day Baltimore or Toronto to play Warhammer Online, and you will receive an invitation to the Closed Beta and an exclusive in-game item - the Skaven Skin Cloak!*
For more information about Games Day Baltimore and to purchase tickets click here. For more information about Games Day Toronto and to purchase tickets click here. If you are unable to make it to these events, never fear! We’ll see you in Chicago and LA with more beta invites and Skaven Skin Cloaks to give away.
*One set of codes per player. Entrance into the Closed Beta is not guaranteed. You must be 18 years or older to enter the beta, and cannot be employed in the video game industry. Timing of beta invitation is dependent on computer system specs and other factors. See full disclaimer at the end of the newsletter.
So where did they LIE to you? I am not seeing it anywhere.
Wrong. Not only did I talk to Games Workshop on the phone, I talked to the Devs at the booth (who, coincidentally are developing it about 10 minutes from my house) and the Baltimore Convention was apparently the only convention that guaranteed a Beta slot. That comment you posted is directed at the other Conventions.
No, read again. That is all one paragraph, and the disclaimer is obviously directly referring to the Baltimore convention.
Hah, thank you! I wondered if anyone would notice he was completely wrong. Sad he lives 10 mins from there and doesn't have the right information and I assumed he was lying and looked it up on the internet in 2 minutes and found out more than he knows, and he was at the convention!
Also, to the other guy that said he is more or less a master tester and they need all ranges of testers for a game. Duh, I realize that. But I was making a point to that guy that thought since he had a high end PC he deserved in the beta more than his friend. And I still think you are wrong, sort of. The devs have high end PCs, they need all the different lower end PCs much more.
I think you seriously need to get the wax out your ear. He is not talking about the 2008 convention. There was one held at the Baltimore Convention Center in 2007 (Started June 23rd). YES for that 2007 one they did guarantee beta access. For the 2008 one it was changed to chance.
I live in Baltimore, have all my life, I remember the announcement as well as the event.
Thanks man, at least someone in this thread can read. Effing slobs on here posting without reading, LOL.
WHERE did it say anywhere he was talking about the 2007 convention? It doesn't say it anywhere! I have everything quoted from his original post. And why would they give key for SURE to people a year earlier and then only give keys to some people (which is EXACTLY what happened to his guy) the next year? I would think they would want more and more people as release got closer. You're not proving your point very well. I believe what I see official statements of, not some random guy claiming he's lived in Baltimore his whole life and "remembers".
ROFL learn to read man, I clearly and explicitly stated I went to the Convention before my wife was pregnant, which I clearly and explicitly stated was circa April/May LAST YEAR. I haven't had time to sleep since then, let alone go to a gaming convention for God's sake.
Don't believe me and don't believe him, either, it really doesn't matter to me. The truth is the truth. Just give it up, or do some research on the web on the 2007 Convention. I'm sure it's still out there somewhere.
Maybe YOU have difficulties reading English, but the statement on the back of my promo card was quite clear. I'm not going to go down this path any longer, keep defending EA like the fanboy you are, it has no effect on the facts.
Where did he say he went before his wife was pregnant? Am I assumed to check all this posts he's ever made on these forums? And I changed my facts for one reason, I assumed it was 2008, which wasn't explained anywhere like you claim. Then when you said it was 2007 I looked into that as well, once again proving you wrong.
Maybe YOU have difficulties reading English, but the statement on the back of my promo card was quite clear. I'm not going to go down this path any longer, keep defending EA like the fanboy you are, it has no effect on the facts.
Everything is subject to 'change without notice'. First, you might want to keep your anger at Mythic, as they are the ones you talked to. I'm no fan of EA, especially with what they did with the Battlefield series, but it's not their fault you're not in Beta. But honestly, you lost nothing tangible, and while it sucks to not get what they said you were gonna get, realize that with most developers, if you don't get it right there, chances are you won't be getting it at all.
With that being said, and your denial into the open beta, can I have your Skaven skin cloak?
Maybe YOU have difficulties reading English, but the statement on the back of my promo card was quite clear. I'm not going to go down this path any longer, keep defending EA like the fanboy you are, it has no effect on the facts.
I feel for yah Traelin. I scanned most of the thread so prob missed a detail or two.
Back when EQ2 was in beta they had a promotion where if you bought the Legends of Norrath or some game like that, you would get a beta invite. So I did, got the code and registered. There were about 20 of us who did not get an invite. We set up a forum and shared info we had gathered, took about a week before a dev posted in that forum saying they were looking into why our invites were not sent (took a phone call or two).
We got them, late, but meh. When you purchase something that entitles you to something else that you care about, it becomes more than just a nusance. You feel cheated.
Like. . . I bought a pizza from domino's, and the coke rewards codes that came with it were already used! Now I don't care much so didn't complain, but if I was collecting them hard core, I would have to raise a ruckus.

Best of luck to you!
He didn't pay anything...he got them for free from a convention. There for he's not 'entitled' to anything. The only way he couldn't of gotten into part of the beta at all by this point in time is if he simply sat on the codes instead of adding them to "MASTER" Account (not a beta account). If he'd of entered them properly (yes im assuming) he'd of gotten in the last week of closed beta and the preview weekend. If he uses them Now he'll get into OPEN Beta.aka Still Beta.
i'm not really worried about the beta, but is there a code incorporated with early access? or do you have to get your game, just can start playing because you have the discs before other people? i really want to just start fully playing my actual guy.
Well seeing as how I was guaranteed a beta spot due to my attendance at their Baltimore Convention, and I didn't get it, I don't believe a word Mythic says. Wow.... if the individuals that are bashing on Traelin are indicative of the community of WAR, then I'll more-than-likely be avoiding this game. Sheesh... you are making WoW's community look good. And, that is just... plain sad.
This is definitely a case of over-reacting breeding troll heaven.
The OP has a right to be upset; any of us who pre-ordered the game expected to get a code - that is, of course, one of the reasons most of us DID pre-order,
However, the long line of discussion is blown out of proportion. Mythis clearly never promised people given codes at ANY stage of the closed beta to be automatically entered into closed beta (or open, for that matter). Beta has always been, very clearly, about system specs. Codes given out during CB were to "add" to your chances, nothing more.
I agree that retailers should not continue to take pre-orders without notifying people placing them that one or more of the "perks" they offer are not available. However, this is the RETAILERS fault, not Mythics. If they ran out of codes, then they did. People have been pre-ordering the game for a year now, so I'm not surprised. Anyhow, the game comes out in around two weeks, so I hope you at least give it a try.. beta has been a blast for the last few months!
People expect something for nothing and then when you don't get it, you complain and say Mythic cannot be trusted. I am no fan towards Mythic or EA or any other company for that matter, but I am very interested in poor business practices and how I can avoid companies that get involved in them. So when it was flamed Mythic lied and cheated them out of a key, I looked up the information and noticed they were just wrong and misinformed, so I proved them wrong.
I don't go around hunting down people that say factual or opinionated posts about this or any other game, but when people LIE and SLANDER companies for their own mistakes and misunderstandings, then I step in.
And like I said originally, if you didn't get a key, you can return your preorder at no cost. No poor business practices here, move along.
Just an FYI, they LIKE beta testers that do not have good specs. They don't need people that have maxed out $3,000 rigs, its obvious it will work. They want Johnny Nojob with a 300mhz compaq to try and run the game
Sorry as a games tester myself and part of an experienced QA team this is untrue.
They require a cross section of machines, it is not a given that high spec machines will work. The probability is high but we need people with the ATI 4870s in SLI, just as much as we need to test people using just one GeForce 7800.
I have seen people make out their machine was uber to try and get into a beta, I have also seen people make out it was worse than it is, so much as to use DxDiags from machines they won't use, or to even edit them.
At the end of the day only the QA team knows what machines they need at that particular time.
As part of an experienced qa team, i would think you would know that ati cards are in crossfire, not sli.
Are they really out of open beta codes? I am thinking of going and buying a pre-order box from Target or Walmart, Gamestop - mostly for the open beta access.
This is definitely a case of over-reacting breeding troll heaven. Sorry,
those who joined the "pre-order" party late in the game deserve NO pity. I didn't get the pre-order for the CE, where is my pity parade? The people who are trying to pre-order are ONLY doing it for the open beta, not to lend support.
Right, I made amistake and waited too long. Let the true fans who supported the game for a long time have the cool action figure (not relaly.. but a cool collectable miniature!!), let them have the closed beta time they did. They put there marbles into the pool early. Let mythic maybe spend a little extra money developing knowing they have "that amount of money" coming in..
I waited to pre-order. I did in July of this year. I was sad I didn't get the CE, I wanted it, but it was gone. So, should I come to the boards and say "Wahn, Wahn, Wahn, I don't get to demo....errrr.... beta test the game." No. I knew when this stuff was coming out because I've had the herald subscritpion for a LONG time. 12/29/06 is when I signed up.. So.. where is my "late to the party" wahn post?
Well seeing as how I was guaranteed a beta spot due to my attendance at their Baltimore Convention, and I didn't get it, I don't believe a word Mythic says. I got them for free from a Convention that cost...$40. I wouldn't have gone if it weren't for the guaranteed beta. Wow, the denial LOL.
I pre-ordered from Direct2Drive like 3 days ago and instantly got an email with my OB key and everything else, then immediately made an account for it. Feels great.

Talin, let me ask you something. If all the Devs you talked to at the Convention told you you were guaranteed admittance to beta (including the Brit that was the main guy doing all the vids there), AND your card says you're guaranteed beta, what would you think? Sorry, I'm not your typical "bend over" consumer.

The sad thing is you are completely wrong and in denial of the facts. I co-own my own Software Engineering firm, and we are paid not just for our products but for listening to customers. That is, we are paid to parse every tidbit of data the customer throws at us, in order to possibly ascertain future or unnamed requirements. Not only do my ears not fail me, but the promo card says exactly what I've posted about in Post 18.
I even posted a link to one of the Warcry co-admin's comments, and he stated the same thing I did before I even found it.

banthis, my codes have been entered in betacenter.eamythic.com for what, 1.5 years now? My dxdiag has been there for longer, and has even been updated since I built my new rig. Operator error is not at fault here.

Is QQ appropriate here?
Entirely.
Wow.... if the individuals that are bashing on Traelin are indicative of the community of WAR, then I'll more-than-likely be avoiding this game. Sheesh... you are making WoW's community look good.
P.S. I didn't go though all 7 pages of replies.
Thank you
Some community sites still got keys for the beta, if you're fast
the point every 1 seems to of missed open beta should be any 1 and every on pre order or not its pure krack that its not
Sorry,
those who joined the "pre-order" party late in the game deserve NO pity.

*One set of codes per player. Entrance into the Closed Beta is not guaranteed. You must be 18 years or older to enter the beta, and cannot be employed in the video game industry. Timing of beta invitation is dependent on computer system specs and other factors. See full disclaimer at the end of the newsletter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So where did they LIE to you?
I found the post first time around Cereo.

Post 18. Looks like YOU are wrong. Again.
