Well the fact that EVE do not tells you from the start of the game: what to do,where to go,with who you should talk,......and so on, makes this game boring for the newcomers. Therefore EVE is not a game for all. Kids for example they will find this game horrible, boring, stupid.... ....most of them...if not all.
Most people who don`t know what they want to do in eve EVE will quit and make hate threads because there is no "big daddy" who tells what to do.
This game offers you the choice to do whatever you want. As i said before the problem is that people don`t know what they want.

EvE does not tell you what to do, EVE do not force you to do something you don`t want and does not limit your choices. This is main reason why EVE is different from other games and it`s the best MMO out there.
He didn't miss the point at all. He was completely spot on.
Eve itself is a very boring game.
"But he didn't join a corp or pvp or didn't play the game for 2 years." whatever.
You can go ahead and play your made up little guilds doing the same things over and over for 2 years, repeating the same cycles over and over. Just like every single other mmo. While pretending your doing something meaningful and interesting.
God forbid someone actually reviews the game for what it is rather then the people who are in it.
And frankly, to a early poster, yes you eve fanboys are sickening. I swear, go to any topic in this forum and theres always some post by some eve fanboy saying it's the bees knees. It gets tiresome.
I thought the review was funny as hell and I was laughing my ass off, but the thing is, just because he doesn't understand skills and there is no instant reward, he doesn't like the game. I mean, come on, how shallow is that. He even said he didn't know what two skills meant and the difference between them. All you have to do is read the descriptions which are 1 to 2 sentences long, lol. EvE is not for everyone, and the fact that he puts WoW on somekinda MMO pedestal( or atleast he thinks all MMO's are WoW clones) kinda shows his true MMO exp. IMO, WoW ruined MMO's. Money wise, Blizzard made out, actual advancement in the genre, WoW was a big step backwards. Hence WAR coming out with the cartoony graphics. WAR wont be the last cartoony MMO to be released, thats for sure.

1. First off it wasn't because of instant rewards. If anything the logic of that is flawed, in EVE you can actually not play the game and still progress, hence the "the game that doesn't want you to play it"(or some such).
2. He does understand the skills, it was obviously a jab at the skill system and how the skills are named. It was obviously a exaggeration for humors sake.
3. Wow deserves to be on a pedestal, because it doesn't beat people across the head with a baseball bat for trying to play it. With the "fans" and "hardcore" claiming it as revolutionary, and "true skill". When in reality your fighting the games systems.
4. Most mmo are wow clones. Look at the games after wow was released? lotro? aoc? war?(sorry but i was in beta, and as the devs say its more of a evolution then revolution)
5. Blizzard saved the genre. It was basically a sick dead horse, that a few devs came out from the shadows and took a few whacks at the corpse, but that's basically what was happening. WoW was a big step forward. It proved that mmos can be successful and can be fun without adding in a needless layer of suck and self hatred.
The problem is, that dev's are simply cashing in on wows style, and releasing before they are ready for a cheap buck, or to recoup dev costs they weren't prepared for.
If it wasn't for wow, most investors wouldn't touch the market with a 100 ft long pole.
6. Cartoony graphics? I suppose you could call it that, WAR and WoW share similarities because they both stem from... WARHAMMER. thats original what warcraft was going to be, a warhammer game. Their style evolved their own way from that base, and WAR is based around wars own evolution.
But being photorealistic/dark/grainy/high quality graphics aren't exactly a good thing.
Look at the state AoC is in, because of their choice for graphics.

You obviously dont like or get Eve and you also fail to comprehend that you cant really compare it to WoW or its clones - they different type of games (its like comparing a normal car with a race car ). Much like that guy reviewing it in zero punctuation. Funny but very unrealistic.
EvE is like a ice shelf, you can't actually force it to move faster but it's definitely going places, and once you are used to the cold and the lonliness its an almost meditative ride that can last a VERY long time.
Where as many other games are like river rafting, fast, exciting and with a sudden stop at the bottom, the "man I can't stand this endgame crap anymore"-effect

You speak as though WoW started it all. You DO realize that Eve was developed and released BEFORE WoW was, right? Eve was developed with a much smaller team of developers and off a budget far, far less then the Blizzard team had.
If anything its Eve and their developers that were "revolutionary" in their design. Proving that independent game makers CAN make a successful game.
First off, i did not mean to compare wow to eve, they are completely different.
And yes i get eve. I just don't -like- it. And i don't -fool- myself into thinking it's actually doing anything revolutionary, rather it's just the best damn space game ever made.
Politics, trading, ganking, etc. All of which are guild(corp) functionality, and that's what makes eve work. I just don't want to rely on other people to make a boring game fun. If you like that kind of thing, then your going to love eve.
I said it, it's the best space game ever made.
And the reason i speak of wow being the "big daddy" is because... it really is for this generation of mmos on the market(that is everything that came out and coming out afterwards, or all games that were out and tried to emulate features of it).
you can argue that it's the EQ formula not wow, but wow itself was a combination of a bunch of different mmo ideas and things(daoc, wow, uo amongst others).
Yes WoW is based on the eq formula, but the games that come after don't emulate eq, they emulate wow, which while being a eq formula, has enough of it's flavor to be able to be diluted into it's own stream.
AoC is practically identical to wow.
Instanced BG's
End game raids
Instanced Dungeons
Linear quest node progression.
LoTRo, basically the same(bgs replaced with BG, but it has enough redeemable features that justify itself)
EQ2 while coming out earlier, retooled their game to be more wowish and less eqish.
I do love WoW, not because it has the best features, or it's the best designed, but because it's the best MADE.
I don't have to fight the UI
I don't have to fight broken content.
I don't have to fight the controls
I don't have to fight poor itemization
I can log in, and enjoy the game(it has bugs i'm not saying it's perfect), without getting frustrated by all the 100 things that keep me out of eve lotro, coh, vanguard etc, that just add up over time.
The thing that get's me about eve fanbois, is that they don't realize is that eve isn't a mmorpg in the general sense of what people are looking for when they want a mmorpg. It's a great mmoss(space sim). But it's as if they have some delusion that it's a standard mmo in line with all the others.
I found the video slightly funny and some of it unfortunately spot on. The game can get boring but it's a niche game for certain ppl.

Hahaha... this is exactly why he makes such funny and clever reviews. To piss of fanboys like you. Great review.
Lol i love his reviews they are always so true and fare. I have to say ive always wanted him to review EvE online and what do you know!!! he did review it and it was a SPOT ON review of the singleplayer version of EvE.
Now all we need is for him to review EvE while actually playing it as it was intended [as in while playing as part of a player run corp i.e. in a groupe and not alone in a MMORPG].
On a side note i will point out to those crowing that this review is further 'Proof' that EvE is terrable, that he makes satire reviews and he hates MMORPG's. Also such games are designed to be played as part of a groupe and tend not to be made for solo players. So its little suprise that his single player experience in a Multiplayer game was a bit boring.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

Exactly right. It's not meant to be interpreted as "Eve is terrible." I'm sure he understands that the 14 day trial doesn't show enough, but that wouldn't be a funny review, would it?

McDonalds serves more people in a day than some dining establishments do in a week.
McDonalds sure has figured out how people like to eat!
They even figured out that if they include stuff like pretend pets in special package meals, children are even MORE likely to buy their food! Let's hear it for happy meals!
It's not that the food is the best or the service is the best, but you can always expect McDonalds to provide the same dining experience without any hiccups and get you the food quick!
Oh, wait, this thread was about that reviewer guy...
The main thing he's got going for his reviews is the fast-talking.
That way, when it's over, you can think to yourself how glad you are that you didn't have to waste an extra two minutes of your life listening to a slow-talker spew the same garbage.
EvE's a browser game with pics for space nerds and MBA-freaks. A sandbox for money lovers and hunters. It lacks everything emotional, kicking morale with a big boot everyday and prohibiting anything remotely creative that's NOT contributing to explore, yield, dominate. It does not feature any eye-catchers, anything remotely related to solo-friendly, it does not feature any platforms for roleplaying besides roleplaying about war/economy/politics...
It's a game for Kofi Ananns and Donald Trumps in this world, not for Edgar Allan Poes or Ernest Hemmingways...
Yahtzee is spot on there. EvE-players ARE to nerds what nerds are to normal people... *g*

2) I do not like Eve-Online one bit
3) I do think Eve-Online is a good game

He's a "genious"!
Come on, let's be frank here.
