FACTS ABOUT FFXI

gargantroogargantroo Member Posts: 1,477

I didnt like Final Fantasy XI, in fact, I'm going to leave my opinion out of this, I'm just going to say the goodside and the badsides that every player faces.

Good sides:

-The jobs are unique and fun, most I've never even seen in an MMORPG.

-Forced grouping IMO is a good thing in an MMORPG, but most people dont like it. I'm not sure which to put this under...

-Nice juicy chat window, I think the chatting is so great in the game because it's not puny like Everquests, it's bulky and easy to read, and not alot goes into it, only battle logs and chat.

-Auction house system is easy and a good way to trade

-Graphics are nice, so is the music.

-No lag at all, never crashed. Runs fine and I have minimum system requirements.

Bad sides:

-If you cancel your subscription, you have 80 days before PlayOnline deletes your cd code. That means that if you decide to come back 81 days later, you have to buy a brand new game. Suddenly $50.00 doesnt seem so cheap.

-No live events, which means, the GMs dont interact with the players. If you've played the classic MMORPGs like Ultima Online and Everquest, maybe you can remember the monsters raiding towns, the heroes in the game and the villains, not NPC villains, actual GM-played villains.

-Very limited customization. Your options include 8 faces, each with 2 different hair colors and you choose between small, medium, and large. I know that it sounds like an opinion but if you compare it to World of Warcraft, you will notice the customization is very poor. World of Warcraft lets you choose a number of different faces, a number different hairstyles, many different hair colors and lots facial hairs styles. The reason I couldnt put a number on them is because in WoW the customization differs per race. For females, facial hair adds face paint, earrings, etc.

-$1 per additional character? That is an f'ing joke, you get 1 character for $12.99 a month, the rest are all $1.00 a month. Many MMORPGs let you have 5 characters, that means if you have that many characters, your monthly fee will be $17.00 a month! And you thought City of Heroes was out of hand for $15.00 a month!

FFXI- Quit after 10 months
Ultima Online- Quit after 25 months

You summed it up pretty good, cept for a few things.I absolutley apall any GM activity in the game. They should be non existant,or seen very little of in a game. From what i have seen of too much GM activity ,turns the game into a kindergarten. All game long you here little bickering going on,with someone shouting out in the game"I'm gonna tell the GM on you".It's a joke,i played FFX! for a year an never once needed a GM,Nor will i ever need one in the future.I get totally turned off whenever i hear some teenie bopper who starts trouble then when going gets rough, hes off yelling for the GM[very childish]we don't need it.I am sure they are there mainly for legality reasons.

As far as character customixation goes, you are correct ,cept the WOW customization i have seen is also done cheap. Also i doubt any game has a character as cool and loved as the FFX1 TARUTARU,and that characters e-motes rock also.

The reason u have to pay for additional players is because the one you have can be changed anytime you visit a mog,and can take on any role u have built the skills for,so another player is totally not needed in the game ,therefore if u feel you need another ,one dollar is chicken feed.Additional players are used 99% 0of the time as mules.

the do have events in the game that are quite fun and interactive amongst all players. These usually take place on festive occasions/holidays.

Lastly,i have no idea how you didnt experience any lag?I havnt heard of one person who didnt experience it in the town of JUENO.And all the servers are in asia, wich means if you play the game late night when all the asian players come on,you will reach pings well over 1000+...non lag is around 300 and down. But for the most part of the game there is very little lag if any.

I would definitly come back if bosses attacked towns and everyone got together to fight it. It would be wonderful.

Actually you could need another character if it was to change races, since Taru's arent origi nally good at meelee and Galkas are poor in magic. But still its nota large diference.

As for the lag, the only places where it Does lag is the auction house, and still it only lags when there are over 100 people on screen/near the area.

And whats with the 'Liar' JoshFatal??? I dont get your point

I originally wrote a long post about it, but it got eaten, so I resorted to one word.

He says he's leaving his opinion out of this, and yet goes right ahead and expresses almost nothing BUT opinion. It's terrible. The topic title is "FACTS ABOUT FFXI."

-The jobs are unique and fun, most I've never even seen in an MMORPG.

    Opinion.

-Forced grouping IMO is a good thing in an MMORPG, but most people dont like it. I'm not sure which to put this under...

Also an opinion. If "most people" don't like it, how is it a good thing for the game? Also, if he actually left his opinion out of this like he said he would, he'd understand why many don't enjoy forced grouping, or at least provide reasons for why forced grouping is a good thing. Instead, he states his opinion and doesn't say anything else about it.

-Nice juicy chat window, I think the chatting is so great in the game because it's not puny like Everquests, it's bulky and easy to read, and not alot goes into it, only battle logs and chat.

This is an opinion, and also a lie. Practically EVERYTHING goes into the chat window, not JUST battle logs and chat. Furthermore, the battle logs and chat alone can constitute a lot "going into it."

-Auction house system is easy and a good way to trade

    Also an opinion.

-Graphics are nice, so is the music.

    You guessed it, an opinion.

-No lag at all, never crashed. Runs fine and I have minimum system requirements.

Exaggeration. I find it hard to believe this guy could walk past an Auction House without the slightest bit of lag. FF11 generally isn't too laggy, I'll agree. But "NO" lag at all is pushing it.

-No live events, which means, the GMs dont interact with the players. If you've played the classic MMORPGs like Ultima Online and Everquest, maybe you can remember the monsters raiding towns, the heroes in the game and the villains, not NPC villains, actual GM-played villains.

True, there not being live events is a FACT, but whether that's a good or bad thing is, yet again, an opinion.

I'm all for revealing FF11 for the piece of trash it actually is, but I wish others who hate the game could heckle it properly.

Woah, your right. Its like one fact for an opinion. But its still some good info.

Forced grouping isn't the problem, exactly....  if any party of 6 players was good enough, then things  would be fine   and getting a group going would be easy.

When you need specific classes to make a party that isn't a waste of time   is what makes things suck.

Spending hours with 5 people and not being able to hunt because you can't get a whm or rdm  is what sucks.   Things like that is the problem, not forced grouping.

Is it really true that if you cancel your account and don't re-subscribe within 80 days then PlayOnline deletes your CD Key?  That sounds horrible.  I think if someone pays $50 for the cd's, they should be entitled to keep them and not have to go out and buy a new boxed game.

Maybe the post meant to say that if you are gone for over 80 days your PlayOnline Code will be deleted and all of your character info will go "bye-bye".  That makes a lot more sense.

Then you would have to re-subscribe and start a new character from scratch, but at least you wouldn't have to blow $50 again.

I have been thinking of getting back into FFXI, but if I have to buy it again, then forget it!

I would have to agree with Fizblix that the horrid group requirements was one of the biggest flaws in the game, not so much just forced grouping itself which is fine. Its rather inane to have such a strict setup to get any worth while exp, especially once you factor their odd exp system into the mix which requires similar levels.

On another note whatever Vercades was laughing about went right over my head.

Not entirely true. While they do delete your CD key, you can simply reenter your original key and it will work just fine. No repurchase charges. I've done this twice now since the game was released in the US because I got a weird craving to play.

Or even better you simply dont cancel your PO id. It costs nothing to keep your PO ID. What you do is cancel your content ID which is your character in FFXI. Then that means you dont have the hassle of serial number problems. But you will find after 3 months of cancelling your character will be deleted.

FACT : If you value your money DO NOT reactivate at the end of the month.

I just reactivated my account to check things out on September 25, they were very unclear of the billing process and just said I would be billed at the beginning of the month. I assumed they meant my charge for Sept 25 - Oct 25 would be charged. I was charged 12.95 for the 5 days in september and 12.95 for the month of october.

Regardless of how the game is, the billing sucks.
