Sounds like they took a lot ideas from Asheron's Call. I sure hope the implementation of things like mob spawns/camps is better than the one AC used though.

    Thats pretty awsome.

If they (Advertine) are able to pull this off. This will be the single most revolutionary MMO - since well...since Meridian 59. It seems the majority of MMO's after that have only slightyly changed the genre - with perhaps the excpetions of UO and EQ. ALthough I was not a fan of EQ it would be foolish to say that it did not have a impact on the genre. So here is to hoping for a great and groundbreaking game. It is time that this genre was shaken up a bit it has become stagnant.

Just so there is some record of this....my sig is amazing....but the Vaporware trolls just cant admit they were wrong.  In fact they have reported me for my signiture which was a Gravestone with the words "Vaporware trolls on it"

Here is the PM i just got....

    Dear originalegg,

You have been issued a warning by one of our moderators.

    Warning Category: Other

Reason: The signature you are using is being considered offensive by some and you need to change it

This is just proof of the sadness that goes on here.  Im going to email them and see if this is really offensive because you see sigs with skulls and blood and gravestones all the time.  My sig doesnt call out a member specifically...and the only people who should be offended are trolls...who should be banned anyways right because trolling is something you can be reported for here....right.....

yes, but remember... 99% of humanity is utter fail

it doesnt matter if you call out someone by complementing them, they will get offended for god knows what reason...

a friend of mine recieved a warning for saying 'wow, those guys run as fast as kenyans'

...ever heard anybody say 'OMFG THAT BASTARD JUST SAID I CAN RUN FAST! HE SHOULD BURN IN HELL!'

Darkfall was built for PvP but if a player wanted to spend a majority of his time focusing on PvE various aspects built into the game allows for this.

The size of the world, as stated earlier, it takes 8 hours to cross the world on mount or by boat, will allow for minimum contact.   Of course these individuals, or those taking a break from PvP, will have to stay away from the known traffic areas.

Non-static camps, also mentioned in previous threads, makes it more difficult to find individuals fighting mobs.  On the other hand, if an individual stays in one location to long, the spawns will decline and finally disappear, thus making him move to another location, increasing his likely into running into another player.

No tracking in game prevents folks from pinpointing your location or evening knowing you are nearby.  However, those PvEing cant determine if they have been spotted.

Client side only recieving information that is visible to your character will prevent radar and provides individuals a chance to escape a larger party by using the terrain.   Scurring down a ravine may save your from a mounted party.

PvE will be possible and appears to be quite enjoyable and challenging but always realise this is a PvP game and you will be killed multiple times.

Not only is there PVE in Darkfall, but it actually has some really interesting aspects to it which is amazing due to the fact that the game is based on PVP.  So I want to take a second and highlight some of the PVE features for those of you who have not been following the game until recently.

There is PVE in Darkfall.  So lets just make sure everyone knows that first.
There are dungeons, but they are not instanced.  This means that any group of any race can come into the dungeon your group is in.  The dungeons will be zoned and are one of the few parts of DF that will not be seemless.
Darkfall has a very dynamic and unique PVE system in place regarding random mobs in the world.  Once you clear a group of mobs they are gone.  However if they remain unchecked, they will grow in size and power, and may even begin to establish structures.  Champions can spawn and they can also roam.
PVE mobs will drop exactly what you see on them.  You will not be looting the Sword of the Uber off a boar.  If you attack a goblin with an iron helm, sword and cloth pants on...that is what you will be able to loot off him.  If he switches to a bow and arrow in the middle of the fight, that will also be there too.
PVE mobs will have the ability to LOOT YOU if you die while fighting them.  So it is entirely possible to come across a camp of goblins, and notice that one of them is sporting a little nicer gear than the rest of them because he just took out an ork player.  If you kill him now, you will be the new owner of that loot.
You will not be clearing the same raid boss over and over.  Once a "raid" boss is killed, he is gone...because you know...you killed him.  Do not read that as raid bosses will be few and far between and only the elite guilds who get to them first will have access to this part of the game.  There will be plenty to go around.

That is just some of the main points about PVE in Darkfall.  There is also talks about Demigods on destruction paths that will be controlled directly by GMs. (That players can obviously kill if they are able to)
Hope this helps any players who are just now discovering all that Darkfall has to offer.

The part about mobs taking your gear is great, and I totally approve of the non-instanced world.

Still, I lament that there is no purely PVE version of Darkfall or anything like that (i.e., a PVE sandbox with true freedom).

I have played all sorts of PVP from Shadowbane to DAOC to WOW's excuse for PVP, and can find no benefit, indeed no real challenge, in PVP play.  Just ganking or zerging, it's all very repetitive after a time.

All of this is my opinion, of course, but I think well-designed PVE does more to build teamwork and community than PVP ever can.

If monsters can kill you, loot you, and make your life just as miserable as any player can, then why would you want a pure PvE DF? Does getting killed by an actual human really bother you that much? Personally, finally killing "that one" PK who murdered me 100 times is much more satisfying than killing the NPC who killed me 100 times--by that point, I could care less about killing the NPC... I want to kill the developers. But killing that NPC isn't going to help me do that.

So what's with the fixation with PvE?

Not the trolls, but the so called trolls, which for you are everyone that deviates from "Darkfall is amazing", so to speak. So your silly tomb is offensive for all the rational people in this forum.

I couldn't care less, because I blocked it the first day you used it. Meaning I didn't report you.

Reality check.. the chances that those features will be on the game, considering the chances of Darkfall releasing at all are:
    1/4 * 1/10 = 1/40 = 0.025

The chances of you landing a job outside McDonalds considering the chances of you growing to an age that's old enough to work without accidently killing yourself is precisely:

    0/1 * 0/1 = 0 = 0.000

    Raw. Full.

hey dont get on his case too much...he had lots of support and evidence to back up those numbers and his idea that DF has any less chance of releasing than another game...

    oh wait...

So if its 8 hours to cross on horse, to walk i presume its 2x as long so thats roughly 16 hours to cross on foot.

now if the game world is a square to walk around the "square" then that would be roughtly 4x as long, so lets say 36 hours to walk around the edge of the map.

now it takes several days to walk around the map in real time, now you want to walk over every square inch/foot/yard whatever.

so roughly times that by 100, so roughly it could takes months to cover all the world in darkfall, seems plenty of room for boss spawns to happen on a frequent basis.

(YES I DID PULL NUMBERS OUT MY ARSE, but it was just to point out how big darkfall could possibly be with a 8 hour horse trek crossing the map)

Think Germany.  That's what we've been told is the summation of the landmass of Darkfall.  Give or take an Alp or two.

There was a pretty good analysis of this on the official forums, which concluded the size of the Darkfall landmass was closer to Belgium or Slovenia, much much smaller than Germany.

I'm pretty certain Tasos spesified, it would NOT be the size of Germany.
