I am assuming you mean having skills like pick pocketing right and lock picking right?
If so then yea there isnt any info right now that says this is in the game right now.
Since i associate being a thief with stealth, I also want to add that there is no stealth in this game like in past games where you basically go invisible. DF devs pretty much tell it how it is and are fed up with some of the ezmode stuff you see in WoW and its clones. Standing in the middle of a flat plain in the sun about 10 yards from your enemeny and being completely invisible cause you are "in stealth" is ridiculous and carebearish"
What will be in game though is you wont have a big glowing name above your head. And some races are smaller than others. If you find a dark corner or some shade and position yourself accordingly, i know this takes some actual talent, you can effectively stealth and feel much better knowing that you actually were creative in how you did it.

2. I heard theres a pickpocketing skill, just use that to be a 'thief'
3. Find caravans with trade goods, try to sneak up and (if you can) take some of the stuff
All in all, if the last 2 options dont work out, you can still go for the assassin - rogue - highwayman type, or any other type of outlaw you can think of
Imbant you make a valid point about hiding in plain sight. However, I have to admit, one of my favorite skills in UO, especially for a dexer, was hiding. It was a great skill. Also, as you probably know, to even train stealth in UO, you had to have at least 90/100 hiding. Hiding enabled you to hide, but you needed stealth to move about while hidden, and you were only allowed one step per 10 points invested in the stealth skill. So a max of 10 steps before you had to activate the stealth skill again, and there was the chance of failure. Thus, you would have to basically max out 2 skills (200 points) to be a stealther with a skill cap of 700 points So, it was a big sacrifice. Also players could use the detect hidden skill, a magical reveal spell, field (AOE) damage spells, or explosion potions to expose hidden players.
Ultimately, if you still think that it is too unrealistic to have such a skill, even though people train in it in real life (think of snipers), UO provided another alternative for hiding in plain sight. There was an invisibility spell that the caster could cast on himself or another. However, it had a limited duration and if you moved you were revealed. Also, all the means of revealing listed above would expose the hidden player.
Personally, I am for hiding, if not by learning a skill, at least through magic. After all, this is fantasy.
Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.
There is not much information about it but found this at warcry:
"We have both skills and spells that cover this. Polymorph, disguise, change self, etc. Change your name, alignment, race...on the other hand we have skills and spells that counter those, so..."

Nope you make very good points too....i was mainly refering to its implementation in WoW for example.
And i dont really mind the invisibility in an open field thing....its the moving while invisible in the open field.
For the sake of arguement lets say the stealther can have some kind of cloack that is the color of the ground and he can be realistic by throwing it over him and staying STILL. Im completely fine with that. It the whole walking around with a shiny dagger 10yrd in front of me with absolutly no indication at all. Now if you pick a spot, and go into "stealth", that is ok for me.

Nothing was more frusterating in UO than being snooped and pickpocketed by those damn theives. However, I had a lot of fun with mine:) I really enjoyed the way UO did their PvP with the blue, grey, and red scale early on anyway. Thieves would turn grey after they stole something, if they weren't a grandmaster of course and then you could kill them anywhere in the world while they were grey and take your stuff back, plus whatever else they had.
Yeah I'd like to see theives as well, it adds to the hardcore factor of a real skill based, sandbox style game.
There will definitely be stealing/pickpocketing, but there won't be some kind of stealth skill or spell that makes you invisible, so it would take some cunning and strategy. Basically there won't be ninja thiefs.

I was about to ask if this was the case. The only way I could see thieving as a viable profession without it totally ruining the game is if there is A) no stealth, and a way to brutally punish the thief if/when he is caught (like death with full looting).
Been planning this for awhile... Kill someone, loot their bindstone. Bank all my gear. Use their bindstone to call back to their town (hopefully) sneak around, sneak into a shop, kill their NPC shopkeeper, take HIS gear and ransack the shop.

I don't think there's any info on that yet but most of the community want it in from what i can tell.

I suppose there are ways to be a 'thief'
1. Ambush people and take their gear
2. I heard theres a pickpocketing skill, just use that to be a 'thief'
3. Find caravans with trade goods, try to sneak up and (if you can) take some of the stuff

Theres no classes but we will see i hope we can XD
As previously said, there is no Developer quote that confirms or denies this.
They have said it will be similar to Ultima Online from back in the day though, and shadowbane, and both of those games had stealing/thievery.
Here you have some info on stealing.
This info is from 2004 so how accurate it is now is to be seen.

I would like see thieves too. I really enjoyed Thief game series and it would be cool if you could steal in mmorpg.
