Going back to yester-year?

I read in another forum that SWG is going back to the way it used to be.  Now, although I doubt this to be true I decided to ask now that I'm perusing this website. Is this true?

On another note I just read where they're coming out with a new superhero game from DC comics I believe. Is this another City of Heroes clone?

If it was true it would mean SOE admitted they were wrong with the NGE. Since SOE will *never* admit how bad they messed up I would say that no, it's not true.

Didnt they say they were wrong to not listen(im sure i seen a post somewhere from smed on this), but were not going to change it back as they had "lost the old data" and that there were ppl that were happy playing it now and they would just be screwing them as much as they did the old SWG ppl ?

The indications have been that some of the old concepts are being restored, such as crafting or so.  Nothing about going back to CU or Pre-CU.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

    This will never happen.

SOE now thinks the game is the way it should have been from the start and is hoping it will one day have some subscribers.

I was just there for a few days and the game is really no where anything like it used to be in terms of population or fun.

PEOPLE PLAYING IS WHAT MADE IT FUN FOR ME.

I loved going on Rancor hunts or hanging out on Dantooine looking for hunting groups.

I loved the social aspect of the game, and if Holo grinding was what made it work it worked but its a totaly different game now.

Smed's apology was referring to "we're sorry we released the NGE too quickly without notice, we should've released it a few months later", not the "we're sorry we even considered the NGE". Many of the ex-SWG devs individually did admit the NGE was a huge mistake, Smedley has yet to say so. Smedley at one point during the late months of the combat upgrade once said that they deleted the original SWG codes and can't go back, which I think is total BS.

Anyways, no I don't think it's going back to the way it was, some of the rookie devs are attempting at some parts of it but the NGE UI, core gameplay/interface, linear professions, and loot/collection are still there.

And to the OP, yes DCU is in the works, but seeing how SOE does things and their track record history, I don't think it'll hold up to CoX and the new Champions Online that may soon replace CoX.

I have a friend who i've known for 16 years now, we joined SWG together, i left roughly 5 months after the NGE as i gave it a fair trial (what a waste of time and money), he's still in the game on the same server, he's always telling me "oh this patch has just been released" or "they're slowly making it the game it was" etc..  i fell for it and logged in about 2 months ago, guess what.....  NOTHING that he said was true, NOTHING that was rumoured around the time i left has happened (server wipe, server merge, abandoned houses deleted etc), and to top it all off, i travelled every planet and spent 5 hours covering every single section of each planet and i found a total of 6 other players online, this was peak time when there used to be at least a hundred per city. My friend is deluded and won't accept that he's wasted so much time and effort into a game that no longer exists..

NO..  the game will never go back to Pre-NGE days like i hope.

NO.. SOE will never admit their failure.

NO.. they will never get another penny out of me and i won't reccomend a single SOE MMO to anyone.

Side note to poster above me..  Champions won't replace or outdo CoX as Champions graphics are worse, it's like watching a cheaply made animation with comic style graphics..

And no, it's not true, SWG is not rolling back to pre-CU.

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

Wasn't it "game altering (or game breaking), sweeping CHANGES" that caused all of this?

Do you actually like the population the way it is, Obraik?  History, if nothing else, proves everytime they do their "sweeping CHANGES", they lose a bunch more.  You're now down to a new all time low in GCW numbers. (the only population numbers SOE releases.)  Wonder if badger will put this into his GCW population chart?  Just where's the "spin" to this 1?

They could have both, you know, like EQ and EQII.  But thats just another lost cause, kinda like $OE Austin.

Even IF they roll it back i won't be playing it any more.

    The game is old...

It was my first MMo and i enjoyed it very much. But there are better games out now. And hopefully we won't have to wait to long for the KOTOR MMO, all though i would have liked it more, when it would have been in the expanded universe.

Are you actually going to deny that a person can log on and only find a handful of other people playing?

Kind of baiting people there aren't you?

Putting that aside, I think you're quite right that many players of the original game do not think it is ethical to change the core mechanics of an MMO after release.

Two people who agree with this position happen to be the lead designers of the NGE, who no longer work for SOE.  Both of them said that it was wrong to make such game-altering, sweeping changes, and one of them sincerely apologized.

In fact, many veteran players, and Jeff Freeman, think that it would have been much better for SOE to introduce the NGE as a new and seperate game (if at all).  Many also think that the current players should not lose the system they enjoy, but that classic servers should be made available to those who enjoyed the original game system.

    What server?

If you login just about any server except maybe 1 or 2 you will find not 6 but less.

I return to my old server of Radiant and in the short time I was there I saw 4 I believe it was and not together. Go make a toon anywhere and check for yourself.

When I returned to Radiant I went into space and it was empty. I'm not exaggerating, it was empty of players. I went to every planet and the same. On a few occasions I saw one othe rplayer. In the main planets where everyone used to gather, Naboo, I saw one player and he was afk.

I decided to go fly one of my ships. I was low on missiles so I went out to buy some. None of the many places I had down were there anymore. Not one shop from all the many ones I used to buy at. I tried looking up a shop and I swear no matter how hard I tried or where I went I saw no shops.

Now, I won't lie I did find very few but there looked abandoned. Most had nothing in their vendors and others you couldn't enter cause they were shutdown although they had open doors.

Servers with no populations cause a few people isnt really a population are plentiful in swg. I honestly dont know why this game is stil up. If it wasnt a big rich company like sony holding it this game would of been gone long ago. this, no one can deny

There's  PreCU/NGE SWGEMu, and before MMORPG.com staff start waving the warning stick at the mention of it. May I turn their attention to the lucasart forums. Where Lucasart themselves admit their excitement for the project and support it.

It seems Lucasart have seen how large the desire is for a PreCu/NGE , and seem to be cleverly letting this open source project carry on. They can get a preCU/NGE SWG done at no cost to them. It would imagine then it would be a partnership. They support it as long as they can can use SWGEmu to advertise through, or something along those lines.

I just logged into Kauri used the search tool and found 21 players, of which only 7 were level 90's. This was at 1:04 am PST.

I just noticed that 3 of the 21 listed were in groups that had players that were not listed and had players that were on /anon and thus do not count in the search.

Aslong as SWG get no reverted to PRE CU it will present us this sad picture of empty servers  and crap gameplay and an MMO unworthy online numbers.

Bring back the best SWG, bring back PRE CU or be a looser MMO. lol

NGE has in no point adhere to what it promised. Ther SWG world has become hostile to someone who wanna enjoy a Star Wars experience through  unplayable combat, needless crafting, anti social game mechanics. These was all the strong points of PRE CU, best crafting, socializing and combat has keept us involved in this great experience that it was before the crap patches CU/NGE destroyed all.  Only PRE CU can save  it.

Besides SWG evolved in a financial disaster with the game not only didnt't got more customers like the NGE culprits planned but the never gained more then  1/3 of the numbers they had during the best SWG that was PRE CU.

Conclusion PRECU is best. Reverting to PRECU is neccesary needed. Alternative is it stays as a  pain crap  MMO of the century that it is now.

It is the choice of $OE/LA. I am enjoying better games then the NGE right now but would play it again if it would revert to PRE CU.

Here's the problem with the sub numbers debate the way it's usually played out on these forums. People say it's got a ridiculously low number, others try to counter that by saying it's got a ridiculously high number, both of those 2 types of posters here are probably wrong.

The only way  that the numbers make any difference are when they impede the average player from getting the most out of the game, SOE have added group content exclusively now for 2 1/2 years, as a result you need a group to achieve anything in-game. Add in that they've made group dynamics work just like any other mmo by requiring the usual tank, healer, dps mix and that lessens your options when forming a group as well. It's clear that the numbers actively playing SWG aren't sufficient on most servers for people to get anything done, however unlike the speculation on subscriber numbers this can be proved. Proof enough is the fact that there's a multiple page thread requesting server mergers/population fixes at anytime on the front page of the gameplay discussion board. That's current  subscribers airing their dissatisfaction that the playerbase is too small on most servers.
