You wait till Sunday to all open Beta players to patch? Patching could have been done earlier. Then you don't have enough bandwith that it takes people 8 hours to patch a 189MB patch? People have work/school tomorrow here in NA and Sunday will be over by the time this patch is done.... Seems like poor planning if you ask me. I hear players speak highly about Mythic but my first impressions are this is going to be another "C" mmo being handled with a limited budget. C'mon.... 8 hours to download 189MB.... you must be kidding me....

Why cant I get in? its says starting product path??
I don't recall WoW's 2 stress tests being much better with server problems and d/l patches. The question will be whether Mythic fixes things up like Bliz did prior to launch.
Open beta is still beta...
I'm talking about Mythic; not Blizzard. I could care less about WoW at this moment in time and comparing this to something that happened 4-5 yeas ago implies you don't expect improvement. I hope we have come a long ways since WoW's launch and have learned a thing or two since then.
I agree who cares what Blizz did a few yrs ago...Mythic should know better. Mine says im missing large part of files so d/l the whole game again..:(
If nothing else, this just makes Mythic look that much worse. WoW was several years ago, and Mythic had the opportunity to learn from other's mistakes.
The OP hit the problem I had with all this ever since I've been waiting for the Open Beta to start... You do not require people to log in BEFORE patching! Or if you do, run a check to at least see if the account is signed up for whichever stage of beta before accessing it, but please, do not wait until the day that stage begins to do all the patching. Especially if we're looking at a beta ticker claiming to have 882,000+ applicants, assuming most of which weren't in closed/preview and are actually trying to get in now. It's just not smart for your servers and inconvenient for the testers.
But as some have been quick to point out, we certainly are "testing" their patcher server, at any rate. I mean, this is just fixing a couple of issues addressed over the preview weekends I think, imagine what's going to happen once we have the first major update for the live product after word of mouth gets out and that subscription number launches over one million players. I hope they have things adjusted a lot better then.
I hate to mention That Game Which Should Not Be Named more than necessary, but maybe they should take a note from that and the torrent that EA put out for WAR closed beta and try to make the patcher peer to peer? I don't fully understand the technology behind it, but I imagine it would help take a huge load off the patching servers if everyone downloads off each other.
I was downloading from FP @ 700k then down to 120k then I checked again and I'm back in line waiting 300+ minutes. I had already gotten 32% downloaded. Seems like FP is trying to get some people to pay and skip the lines.
Ugh, yeah, I had that same issue. I got to 92% on that download before it stopped working for me altogether. I got so tired of waiting in line just for the download to give up and make me wait in line more that I found a torrent and got it off that. Hate FP so much.
Hopefully the patcher's bandwidth will be cleared out a bit by the time you're done with that, if you want to look at it that way.
They probably think that Open Beta is for stress test - and when they find bug/troubles, they patching. That's the main purpose of Open Betas - STRESS TEST SERVERS/CONNECTION/REGISTRATION etc.
So, is the patcher server seperate from the game servers? I patched on Friday for the Preview Weekend +. If the game/patch servers are seperate, thank god I patched earlier.
They are also stress testing, and I'm sure they don't want everyone just piling in to the servers at the same time, not to mention overrunning the newbie areas. I'm fairly certain they know how well that test would do...
Welcome to beta.
Yes we are testing it is just not quite obvious what and whether this is planned or not.
Wouldnt hurt to say we are testing and thankyou. Thats it for today have a go tommorrow.
I still don't see why they aren't using a psuedo-torrent patcher instead of a direct 2 server patcher. I mean you can have the patch server act as a seed. Cause clogging it with several hundred thousand people is not good. It does do one thing though, it trickles people onto the live server so you don't have thousands in character creation at once.
Yeah, I'll give it that much. Unless they get a whole network of mirror patchers or something, though, this won't cut it if this becomes the norm for every single bug fix on live. :
I'm sure Mythic has some sort of plan though, even if a lot of discontented people here are quickly losing faith, both US and EU. I don't mind though, I have a ridiculous amount of patience. Comes from a history of Asian grinders. >_>
I'm suddenly seeing lots of reports in the past hour or so that lots of people are getting the patch considerably more quickly now, so something must be going right.
Right now, I'm still at 32%, but it seems I'm not on the 189 MB patch everyone else is on. I'm doing, like, a 917 MB patch right now... Version 1.0.3.9 is says? I hope my client isn't *too* far behind. But yeah, otherwise it seems like it's speeding up a very tiny bit, patching up the audio file. 2 MB per minute sounds like suck, but right now I'll take what I can get.
At this rate, I'll consider myself fortunate if I make it in tomorrow.
Well, since a few of you don't get it, I guess I have to break out something you'll understand: boo, hoo.
It is open beta. Betas like this exist to work these issues out. You have two weeks, go out and find bugs and exploits and report them. Make like beta testers not whiny babies, so you can make an actual difference.
Christ...
YOU don't get it - ppl are not able to enter the beta, there's no way to find bugs and such from the OUTSIDE.
Two weeks? Appx ONE week left of open beta.
Get your facts straight, clueless troll.
I had no problems at all. I downloaded the patch on thursday and it went fine. It took me approx 5-8 min total to download it. It could be 3 things...
1. too many ppl signing on.
2. The type of comp ppl are using.
3. Thier internet connections.
I know it sounds very basic, but I Hope everyone gets the probs solved so everyone that wants to play can.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD

Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't more specific about there being 11 days instead of 14 when I posted that...
And I get it, you are one of the babies. Welcome to a beta that had something go wrong on the first day. *gasp*
Yes indeed. There are so many people that have very little experience of a launch and plenty that did but forget.
Day 1 EU Release the servers were not up for hours for most people and creating an account took a long long time.
Wow suffered regular crashes and errors but essentially it was extremely palyable and the issues got better slowly. Bliz were very under staffed and information was professioanlly sparse but did let you know what was happening at a basic level. All in al they handled it very well but it didnt always feel like it at the time.
Thius is Beta and unfortunately a large % of the player base dont really understnd what that means. Using beta as a sales aid doesnt help when additional information isnt in your face. I would recommend any company doing what mythic have don here would create a decent secion on their website that buyers cant miss simply stating what beta expeience thy could have, what it is trying to achieve and how what you see in various betas can change dramatically in the launched product.
There are a lot of people apparently taking decisions on whether to play WAR based on beta. Some of those decisons show perople disappointed with things that could well change in the rlease and ofc others where theor experience leads them to believe a deal breakig ]ng issue wont change.
On top of that you have people that really cant afford to pay to play and find it easirer to come up wit han excuse that is easier to accept than they havent got the $
its spelled Write. and i dont care due to the lack of competiance at GameStop. I have no key to play and I wasted a damn money reserving the game seeing as it will be at the stores on launch date. Damn you GameStop Damn you all to hell!
at least you are patching. We EU are stuck not able to register cause GOA put up the account page the same day as the open beta starts.... of course the database broke down and now it has been more than a day we cannot even register our keys, let's not speak of patching or god forbids, actually playing the game
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
what was mythic thinking partnering with ea-games, has anyone had a look at the mmorpg graveyard on wiki? More than half the games listed were under ea-games, i so wish ea-games had nothing to do with this I woulda really liked to try it, oh well. Looks like darkfalls the one i am gonna be looking forward to.
playing eq2 and two worlds
Beta exists to work these issues out. Then when the issues pop up you all cry like little girls because you can't play. They have tens of thousands of testers with over 10 full servers. They are getting the testing they need done, and doing a DAMN good job at administering their beta. Yes GOA did drop the ball. It sucks for EU marketing but again that is what beta is for.
The amount of QQ in this thread is hillarious. Please wait on another game if you are so upset that you can't differentiate something that you have paid for and something that is an optional free service in which you help to test a game. I am sure we will see every single one of you posting on these forums within months after launch as active members of the WAR community, and then hopefully you can look back and realize how ridiculous you are acting right now.
