Overpowered??

So, I've been playing the preview weekends..  and I've noticed one thing.. consistently..

The Tanks do TOO much damage.  I've noticed them leading the Damage charts. It's usually one ranged DPS.  And then Tanks.. Mostly destruction tanks..

I thought it might just be my crazy perception.. but there was an instance where a ORC tank runs into me and starts attacking.  Now, he's got NO healer (we were on the edge uptop in the dwarf area), there are 3 guys beating on him, and me.  Well, he managed to live through this.. and kill me (he had 25% health, and was level 8).

Not right.  I understand they are supposed to be able to take a beating.. but their damage output is TOO high...

So far, I've done a tank V melee DPS Tank wins, Tank V ranged DPS, tank wins.  Tank V healer, Tank wins (although it's a long fight)

.. Thoughts?

iv come to this conclusion. Tanks Damage is high on the charts because they can live long enough to actually do that dmg, not like a bright wizard while he may do alot of dmg, hes super squisy and doesnt live to see the day unless hes being healed or people in front of him.

I wouldn't say they are OP, but definitely on the high end of damage and survivability. I said that the Chosen felt pretty powerful last PW and apparently people thought I was full of shit. Power to the noobs I guess.

It's particularly the Tanks (specifically the IB) and melee healers (more specifically WP) right now that are being considered for the most part OP, and for good reason. Playing both of these classes, I was able to dominate everything (EVERYTHING!!!11!1!).

It doesn't make sense when the IB has equal damage output as a white lion and his pet combined.

It's your first weekend and you are only considering the senario , the game is not all about it . Have you tryed World Rvr on a med-large scale ? Tank are not doing very good for now in it . But really forget the wow solo  pvp , It's a team game , Most of the Ranged dps are at med-high level AOE dps and completly Out-match Tank dps .

Whit that said i totaly understand your point , in a one vs one fight ...there is a little problem , But really you should see how hard it is for Tank and melee dps in Open Rvr .

For your 4 vs 1 , sorry but it was probably 4 new Open beta players vs a closed beta player . Really belive me there is a difference . Ex : i just finish top healer of 5 at level 1 .

    Good luck in there .

P.s Ekrund is the best senario for Tank in the game from level 1 to 40 . Why ? its small .

Serious question, DON'T LAUGH AT ME. Alright, I'm a Zealot and I was in RVR. Guy comes up hits me with fireball, I swear they do like 500 damage PER FUCKING HIT. Who shoots the fireball? what class?

Bright Wizards. He was probably at full Combustion and got a crit. They have a special game mechanic  sysytem where they build up something called combustion. As they build it up, they do more damage, have more crits, and crit for more. The downside is they can backfire and get damage done to them. At 100% combustion they have a 50% chance to damgae themselves.

    It goes like this

In RvR or Scenarios Tanks are worthless piece of...  I don't know where you saw them in the top spots because they never are. Bright Wizards are ALWAYS on top and as a Shadow Warrior I actually manage the same too. Certain tank classes are practically unkillable though unless you have 2-3 people pounding on them. If the enemy has 5 Ironbreakers for example and they charge together, your ranged classes are toast :)

In PQs, quests and just basicly anything solo they are God and ranged classes are worthless

Right now if you want to have fun you will do this

For PvP make a ranged class

    For Solo make a tank

otherwise youll be very annoyed at the game

Those charts don't mean a thing.  I wish they didn't have them.  But yeah, tanks will be near the top since they die the least and are always attacking more often.  While a class like the witch hunter or witch elf might get less damage, their damage will usually lead to key kills against healers and nukers.

As a level 5/6 IB, I was terrible.  At level 8, with most of the Renown gear, I completely dominated.  At level 9/10 I topped the DPS chart consistently.  Even flew over to Nordland and did the Empire scenario.  I topped the BW DPS.  The reason?  There are three:

One is obviously gear.  The Renown gear makes it very easy for me to tank about 3-4 people while killing the squishiest one before I die.  On a 1v1 scale nobody had a chance.  I've been able to take every class so far EXCEPT those that out gear and out level me (and were also a tank).

The second reason is the surprisingly high damage for a tank.  I think it could definitely be scaled down some.

But the third, and most important one, is because no one knows what they're doing yet.  You get 2 groups into a scenario who have a plan and they will decimate the opposing faction.  I got in a pug before the scenario, queued as a group, gave a couple instructions (where to go, who to Oath), and we ended up all topping the charts and winning with barely any effort at all.  We didn't know eachother or practice.  We just had a plan, unlike anybody else.

It's also important to remember that, even though a good bit of balance is required at the low levels, the game is focused on the final City Sieges.  Thus, the majority of the balance is focused there.  And, seeing as they have to balance 4 tiers of PvP content, Mythic has done a damn fine job!

Read my earlier post.  Also, I've played almost every Order class (might be 2-3 I haven't tried yet), and I'm having the most fun with Iron Breaker in PvP.  It's really personal preference.  I like to be right up in the battle, but I also like to be able to take a lot of damage.  My preferred class has always been a Paladin type.  But I have to say, though I enjoyed the WP, IB has been way more fun FOR ME. <----- Preference!!

Tanks arent OP. Ive noticed that tanks are specifically good in PvP Scenarios. However, like all melee characters, they are much less useful in Open RVR where range dominates. Ranged DPS excells in more wider and open areas, but more areas that are condensed such as scenarios, melees get to charge in without any hesitation. I agree that tanks are especially tough in this game, but rightfully so. I dont see how any tanks are OP, they are fine as they are.

btw I play a WP and I do not think they are OP at all. The damage output of the WP is right on target, I think.

I have been able to get to the top in scenarios with a, chosen, bo, magus, sorc, we.  Anything but a healer of SQ. (playing desto only)

Perhaps it's the player not the class.

So you may see a tank on the top, I bet you see some on the bottom to.

I do much more damage as a magus by the way.

Nothing is overpowered, yes some classes at a given level are more powerful than others but nothing in this game is OMG SO OP NERF PLZ

The scenario charts are meaning less becuase not everyone is going full for damage -some people are capping flags, defending or supporting and as someless already pointed out the tanks are usualy up in the forontlines - getting heals and mitigating damage so they stay up longer which equals more damage output

Like others have said, it's all about the terrain

    Wide open space - Ranged

    Small spaces - Tanks

Healers are another thing altogether, pretty much Gods :)

The subject of tanks doing too much damage has been discussed quite a bit on the beta forums.

Many people don't see the use of being a melee DPS if a tank can do decent DPS and have high defense.

I wouldn't say a "balancing" of tank DPS is out of the question.
