If you play - Ranged? or Melee?

Darkfall is going to have style FPS combat.  You have a crosshair and you sure as hell better have a good ping just like any FPS.  What do you see your character specializing in?  Or do you wan't to specialize in both?

    No option for magic?

Magic can be both ranged, point of touch, self buff/heal etc magic...so I dont consider it range....i think of ranged as bow and arrow

Or back in AC2 you had a stonethrower class, and some kind of wasp nest thrower class....man i wish that game had turned out better.

I won't be playing either, I plan to be crafter, healer and later a ferry boat captain.

Hurray for games that give me the option to do stuff like this!

    prolly both..

im planning on being  Mahirim as they are their own mounts. so maybe have something like ranged to snare/dot or something, start four legged running stuffs, switch to melee, get close and kill...

order of attack would prolly be:

    *spot carebear*

    *snare/root*

*disable ability to do anything...if there is a skill like that*

    *run mode*

*melee, get in range, beat the crap out of carebear*

    *steal carebear's stuff and laugh*

Mostly melee. I really suck at FPS.

step #1 is crucial in my opinion...think there will be an ingame mechanic to allow for this?

    Practice on Oblivion

It's pretty hard to get the hang of the bow, I've played Oblivion off and on for awhile and I still struggle with the bow every now and then.

IF I play, prolly both. But I will never again buy a MMO again. Unless i can try it out for free first. Both Vanguard and AoC thought me that lesson.

If every gamer shared this mentality...then we would stop having unfinished games released to us ala AoC, Vanguard, etc...

Hopefully Darkfall will follow through on its plan to allow us to try the game before we spend a dime.  It has been their plan for awhile and i think the only thing that would stop this is if the developer stepped in.

    Time will tell.

Well I will be playing an Alfar. So bows and firebals for sure. When my loot is at stake, I don't plan to let any noob to get a lucky crit in melee:P

Heavy in melee  and some ranged

  • ThonikThonik Member Posts: 2

I'll start out as mixed since melee is probably the easiest for a newbie to master but ranged will undoubtedly be useful in some fights -- Say an opponent trying to run away from you.

There are no classes you can unlimited train many styles of skills you can be ranger/melee/magic if you want there is no game magenic who prefend you from doing that.

Freedom is key to darkfall be whatever you wanne be.

No lvls xp no classes just train skills and learn your avatar to move and be skilled in combat, manual combat no autoattack:).

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

  • snipergsniperg Member Posts: 863

    Unlimited train means little:P

It all comes down to time.

Yeah if you have infinite time then yes that freedom makes sense.

In specific time frames though specialation is important.

I'm definitely going to focus on Ranged. Sniping in Morrowind/Oblivion (which from what I've read the combat is heavily based on) was one of my most favored methods of slaughter. I'll probably back it up with a light, short sword style weapon and high agility/dodging.

    Mahirim ftw :D

*wonders if people know the fact that you can have any skill you want (e.g healer, melee, mage, bow, crafter, miner, etc) all in one...

unless they are going a UO type thing where you are only allowed like 700 points or w.e..i guess that would kinda balance things out and not have it be a race to see who can finish all the combat and defense skills first lol

  • RogueSevenRogueSeven Member Posts: 321

oh yeah, and one thing i hope:

say you were up in a tree, concealed because of its branches not because of a stealth skill which will not be in the game, and you want to shoot/ambush a bunch of people with your bow will it be just *auto target* "THERE HE IS! KILL HIM"...i hope not, i hope it is "OH CRAP WE ARE GETTING OWNED RUN AWAY TO CAREBEAR FORTRESS!!!!!!" and/or "there is a guy shooting at us...look for arrows then shoot there..."

  • snipergsniperg Member Posts: 863

Or my personal favourite "Just torch the damn forest"

I think its too early to choose completely between ranged and melee. We won't know the mechanics until the game is out. That being said, Ranged and melee seems the safest way to go.

If i play it will be a magic user... so range.

Basically I'll be playing a paladin if you will. A  Melee class with healing spells and defensive buffs ftw!
