Open beta, so far?

Just wondering, those of you in open beta, what you think.

So far, in my opinion, it's generic...I am only level 7 and it is just another grind, not really a unique...any thing. I eventually found myself grinding as usual...all ready...on quests I didn't bother reading after the first 7 or 8. But as far as the RvR, it's a good little idea, but again, it's just not enough.

I'm not going to give up yet, but as far as things that really grasped my attention... was the achievements...the titles, the trinkets. It's got a promising PvP system, once they iron out all the glitches...

Anyway, would like to read tomorrow what everyone else thought. Am I crazy? Or is this game just..."blech?"

personally i like it and i think it is very fun.

to me its different than wow or all the other mmos ive played bc of the focus on pvp/rvr and how well intergrated it is in the game in my opinion.  yes the graphics arent great but im having a blast just playing it today and we havent even scratched the suface yet. i think it will be a good mmo if mythic can avoid a failcom

If you think it's generic then you haven't played. The public quests are absolutely unique and a blast to play. The quests are all based around war and work into the story line well. At level 1 I was in a scenerio and fighting, leveling up without even trying. This is the first MMO that hasen't made me feel like a peon at level 1. With a new character I really feel like i'm playing high end content.

I love how the zone can be controlled by order or destruction. I feel like i'm part of a community working towards a common goal, something i've never felt in any other MMO.

The tome of knowledge adds a great deal to the story and really involves you in the game, the unlocks, the titles. it's all great.  Guild levels, city levels. so much to see and do and so many ways to play and affect the world.

I think I have to agree with you. I made level 8 with an archer and it was just ok. I liked a few features they added but over all it felt just like any other mmo to me. the small rvr was ok but the timing just seemed off on a lot of things. Found numerous random glitches which don't really bother me none but there was just nothing that jumped out at me that said "I need to play this game".

Heck there is no real reason to even read the quests, you take the quest, look on your map and it tells you where the stuff is you have to kill/get. You just have to remember where the folks are you got the quests from.

While I was not hyped on playing this game anyway, I thought I would give it a try and see how it looked. It did play pretty dang smooth in 1920x1280 with everything turned up to max so I will give them that. However, I felt the graphics were pretty simple in design. I think they made it like that to accomodate the large rvr stuff though so can't blame em for that one. Overall I think fans may enjoy it, but it just wasn't what I have been looking for.

Another grind, no far from it. What seperates this from the regular korean grind is this game is solely based around pvp and grouped pve. Which, is very nice. You have many chances to level up with others and can do that your whole leveling up experience. You earn exp from doing EVERYTHING. While korean games, it's only earned from Grinding and questing, for the most part. This game you feel like you're leveling so slow...but keep in mind..

Max levels right now are 40, so of course it will take time

You're not only gaining a level, but a pvp level too. There are just so many different things you can earn in the game which really keep me glued to it. You've got experience from pve, rvr experience, and then the party quest experience.

Do the open party quests, they are alot funner then doing solo quests. They keep you entertained because interacting with others in games is always alot better then doing things solo.

Btw, not racist. It's just, korean games always like to make us grind grind grind.

Overall, I like it alot. I rated it 7.5 earlier, but then playing 3 more hours of it, I will up it to an 8.2/10. It does need alot more work to be honest. Minor graphic glitches that annoy me, bugs where the npcs sometimes don't work. Yes we are in beta. That's why I'm not calling those big deals. However, I just hope they are fixed soon because they can be quite annoying. Overall, very fun and enjoyable game. It's solely based on pvp which I love. And of course it's got more of a siege / pve wordly feel then games such as Guild Wars where yes it's pvp, but there's only quests that take you to another world, and that's it. This game has an actual pve world which is nice. It's like 2 games in 1.

You feel like you're earning more each level with this game compared to other games at these levels. Public Quests and the RVR system really are keeping my attention at the moment and I'm sure it'll only get better as I level up.

Your name is ACBandito. Your pic is of AC in scalemail armor. Your calling WAR a grind. Is there any game you have liked other than AC?

Sorry not tryin to attack you I just find it funny your calling something a grind that is as easy to level in as any other game compared to AC (before ucm). I am finding WAR fun. I like being able to go do some quests while PvPing and STILL gaining levels. I find the game far from "blech".

PS. I loved ac so dont take me the wrong way :)

Lovin it as well.  Im actually having fun agian in  a MMORPG without the world craft in the name.

Public quest are freaking awesome and make you fill like your in a group even though your not really. PVP is very fun atm, and considering everyone is still at a extremly low level thats a plus.

No freaking twinks is also a plus rofl.  Everyone is pretty much on the same footing, good I love it.

All in all im having a really good time agian and having to make my self log off, which is a good thing.

After all these years after WOW came out, it finally looks like it will have some competition.

Lol then don't do the generic quests. Thats what makes it fun, unlike most games you dont have to. i've been leveling just off exploring to find pq's, and scenarios.

There are a TON of people playing.  Even so I am getting playable fps on high quality settings.

Graphics are mixed back.  But this is beta, so I'll reserve judgement till launch.  Performance is playable and sometimes good.  Music is not good and not bad, just so so.  Some of the avatars look great and some also are so so, while others are just disappointing.  There are not a lot of avatar options but I guess we have to make sacrifices to have playable fps, so I'm ok with it as a compromise.  They should add some more faces though.  Most of the male faces were ugly as hell.  There were a couple female faces that I really liked, but the hair styles that went with the faces I disliked.

I did see some great long hair styles for elves so that was refreshing.

RvR is fun so far.  Public questing was interesting.  I got second place on loot roll but then I couldn't figure out how too loot.  Supposedly I am supposed to click on the treasure chest and then pick what I want?  When we killed the dragon, there was a glowy, sparkly place under the dragons head but no chest.  And clicking the treasure chest icon on screen just showed me my place in the roll.  I didn't really understand it.

Combat in pve was kinda boring for some reason.  I kept yawning and a couple times I almost fell asleep.  What's wierd is I am waking up more posting this than I was playing the game.  I don't know what is wrong with me...

Combat in pvp was more fun. I kept getting killed in this explosion.  I think it had to do with when the flags changed sides.  There was a mix of levels but I was able to hold my own very well which was nice.  I didn't feel like I was getting raped or anything.  The one on one fights I had seemed pretty fun and challenging.

All in all I will get the game.  But I'm tempted to wait a week or two.  The populations are crazy right now.  It takes forever just to complete a small quest because everyone is trying to kill the same mobs.

heads up the chest spawns on the path you use to get to the PQ, the shiny thing on the dragon is a bug i think where he was using his last attack.

  • DAS1337DAS1337 Member UncommonPosts: 2,610

Maybe I'm lucky.. but I haven't encountered any bugs yet.  Not a single one.  PQ rewards are annoying.. you can place first in contribution and last in the roll and get nothing because of randomness..

To me, I didn't feel like it was a grind at all.  I've played... I think, almost 4 hours, level 6.  Participated in two PQ's, They were both pretty interesting, had fun not feeling like I was competing with people, just doing my job to help in the victory.  Quests didn't see overly boring yet.  Every game is going to be full of mindless quests, people need to accept that.  But, in this game.. you don't have to touch them.  Go do PQ's and join scenarios, you can preogress that way as well.

It's nice to have a little UI customization, Tome of Knowlesge was cool.  The titles that are basically brought from LoTR is a good add.  Lore is interesting to read, if you like that sort of thing.  If you've played any recent MMO, you shouldn't have a problem navigating the UI at all.  Quests are easy to collect, fairly simple to find NPC's.  Though, I'm not sure how I feel about the lack of crafting, I always kind of liked the inclusion of a harvesting grind, for people who like that sort of thing.  Plus, it brings a lot more depth into the game.  Though, it might push farmers away from the game.. which can be a good thing.

I am playing a Warrior Priest BTW.  Overall, I'd give it a 8/10.  If I can go all the way to 40 with everything being as fun and engaging as what I've seen so far, I think it can really challenge WoW, even with the upcoming expansion.

    Good so far.

Oh yeah, playing at 1920x1200, no chunkyness, very little lag at all.  I noticed zero server lag, short load times, acceptable graphics.. great atmosphere.  Spell effects are pretty nice too.  Granted, I'm playing with 8gigs of RAM and a 9800 GTX atm.  So I'd expect nothing less that steller on my end.  My play time went from 10:30 to 2:30 though, so it wasn't exactly peak hours.

I have encountered a few bugs, but minor.  Overlapping text on the lore book, my character went unarmed when he is supposed to use a hammer, relogging fixed it of course. Some of the NPC's/creatures will warp to you in combat at times, not often. All stuff is easily fixable.

I'm not a follower of Warhammer, watched my wifes brother play (40k)table top game a little, just a MMO addict I guess. lol

Probably not going to buy it myself, but I think the game seems decent and should do just fine as long as they dont piss anyone off to horribly like most seem to do lately. EU people will get over the mess that is happening with them right now once/if things get smoothed over.

Not going to beat out WoW, but I think will be a good runner up.  Has some aspects that are similar to it, but is JUST different enough that should make it successful. PQ's were fun and helps promote the social aspect and RvR was also entertaining, especially nice to that kinda thing even at lvl 2 if you so choose.

The unarmed thing could have simply been sheathing your weapon.  You'll start punching your foes until you re-equip or unsheath again.  I didn't see any bad text on the books, that sucks.. wouldn't be hard to fix, assuming I just missed it.  I think the game will do well.. if it isn't unfinished and chases off half of it's subscribers like Failcom.
