This a main reason why a lot of us like Darkfall. Its the thrill of knowing someone is likely to attack you at any moment. Its the fear from loosing your hard earned loot if you loose.
Look i dont want to bag PVE. I enjoy playing against a computer program but generally in single player games or at small lans with a couple of friends. You surely cannot tell me though that in this day and age a computer is as good an opponent as a human (Unless its like deep blue or something). MMO pve really is a joke if you ask me. Monsters that stand still and dont move or agro until you are really close. Raid bosses grr wheres the challenge?
Anyway i dont deny that PVE is fun, it surely is. But dont bag us for liking Darkfall. Its the dream of an immersive and challenging world we are after. If you bag pvp i am going to have to point out the deficient size of your gonads.

yes... you are a "real man", there's no denying that.
Other than that, there is nothing wrong with pvp at all. Havign said that, you must also realize that people are built differently and that "rush" you speak about might not appear to others or affect others in the same way due to how they are built.
But sure, I don't see any reason why someone would diss you for enjoying player vs player combat as they must also realize that people are not built the same way as they.
of course, with that last statement one must also wonder if we need to point out some other deficiencies as I actually think you were serious.

Hey Hey!!
My last comment was kind of a joke to rile up anyone who falls for it. I will admit though ive noticed general trends in people who play PVP vs people who play PVE. People who pvp are typically more competitive and tougher sorts. Do you deny this observation? Of course there are always exceptions. I know because i am friends with people on both ends of the spectrum.
This is perhaps what you mean when you point out people are built differently? Some people do not like competition and are a little more fearful than others.
While I have enjoyed PvP in my earlier years, its no longer my flavor. I work in an extremely competitive environment where no one works together, and there is constant office fighting and bickering. I guess when it comes down to it, I have no interest in spending my own leisure time in this same environment.
So for some, I don't think it all has to do with the size of your junk. It's more choice.
Fair enough man. I can understand the social and teamwork aspect of PVE. Different strokes for different folks
Risk Vs Reward PvP with full loot - that's definitely more of a rush than any PvE in any game.
But when it comes to games like WoW with their completely crappy capture-the-flag style PvP, I think i'd rather just have the PvE.
------------------------------------------
Darkfall wins. Vaportrolls lose.
So you do think Darkfall will be full FFA?
I actually believe it will be about even more teamwork than any game out there to be successful.

I agree with Tiarilir there.
But even though this game will have some awesome PvP, what we've heard about the PvE aspects is mind blowing as well, so perhaps we have the potential for both here.
Man i totally hope so. Even PVE in this world would be more of a rush anyway because someone might gank you after you do all the hard work. Also in this game crafters may be really really valuable because its one character per server.
PvE is different than PvP, different kinds of fun.
However, once you get used to having your PvE with the added notion that you might get jumped at any moment, you can't really go back. to a gankerless world.
I like PvE and PvP 50/50
Also.....you guys need to stop with the alt accounts. You can get banned for that mess.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Well, then first of I apologize if that was snarky. To use a term. It seemed a rather drastic thing to say when talking about a video game and I guess I didn't take it in the spirit it was given.
I agree in that players who want pvp are more competitive. At least from what I can see, you are correct in that statment.
I'm not sure if more fearful is the correct term for people who don't like it but more to the point it is a different reaction to the adrenaline that builds up when they have that competition.
I once recalled someone describing what his body was going through when they pvp'ed... heart pumping, body sweating and shaking, etc. I wrote that it sounded like he was having a heart attack.
Some people "get off" from that rush but I imagine others would find it physically uncomfortable.
I think the same can be said of other such activities such as sky diving or bungie jumping. There are people who get off on that and there are people who just don't feel the same rush. They might even be fearful or they might just not "get it".
Toward that end, I think that a game has to cater to one or other type of player. Or allow for enough difference in gameplay as to make pve servers and pvp servers actually make sense.
DarkFall is being touted as a pvp game. I sometimes cringe when I see other players ask about pve servers. But I also cringe when I see pvp players try to push the pvp agenda on games where it's not being considered. LOTRO comes to mind as it was never concevied of as a pvp game even though pvp of a sort could fit in there.
Players wanted open pvp in LOTRO but that would be a completely different type of game that would grant the possibility of rewriting the world which wasn't really a desired outcome.

Yeah intelligent post. You are right saying fearful does not encompass all the reasons why someone would not like pvp. How you said people react to pvp i think it can be changed. Funny enough it sounds like you are describing the fight or flight response haha. I will actually admit i get a little fired up and shaky during pvp. The more and more you do it though, the calmer you are and the more fun you start to have. Its basic conditioning, have them dual with their friends in a safe environment and eventually they will get desensitised to it im sure. Plus fighting in groups is another way to lessen nerves as you have you're mates to back you up. Its the same with skydiving (which i have done). Fear is a natural human survival instinct, you just have to learn how to use it
I started of Ultima Online running away from PK'ers. Eventually over time i realised that dying and loosing 100 of each reg really isn't that bad, but enough to be annoying. Then the last phase of the cycle was having the time of my life
IMO PvP normally brings out the worst in people. Chats are bogged down with people talking trash or whining about cheaters / hackers / noobs / whatever. A few asshats make life miserable for everyone around them. The fun quickly turns to annoyance and then frustration.
No thanks.
I think PvP isnt going to be like what people would expect, if you look at EVE online for example, different games yes, but it has a mature community and the moment you trash talk most Corporations will even kick you out of the corp.
A mature community in a Sandbox can lead to a good game environment, where most people atleast treat each other with the respect that everybody deserves.
Sure there will be trashtalkers and immature children who are only playing to provoke others, but those people can be dealt with quickly in a Sanbox game like Darkfall + its only once character per server, so you have to take responsibility for your behavior.
