Like most posts show: those that play Wow today are more interested than those who left the game right after TBC.
The game found a 6 months rebirth cycle that is good for most players.
Things saying like "it's a joke to play" is a laugh and shows a hatred towards a game many many people enjoy. It's a joke to play videogames. It's a joke to play MMO's. Life is a joke.
Meaning less words to bash a very well polished product that Blizzard constantly fine tunes to keep players attracted to it.
You don't have to play and enjoy WOW. No one is pointing a gun at you.
But hose who enjoy Wow have fun and that's all to it isn't it.
I think most MMORPG players don't see the fun in the game they play.
Actually I am really looking forward to it. I am only a part time WoW player but WOTLK is making me want to push a bit more. New areas to fly over (when I eventually can fly), new forms for my druid, slighter better, crisper graphics (in my opinion anyway), new mounts, and tons of new areas to explore. Plus a new class. I don't raid so don't care about that. Overall looks like a good expansion to me. Venge Sunsoar
I agree here 100%. I've just started playing WoW a month ago. I think that I won't have myself set to solid in any routine by the time the expansion comes out to upset me. I understand the long time players may say a thing or two, but for myself, I'm looking forward to it.
Well the problem with counting characters over subscriptions is that one sub can play multiple characters. So one guy has six toons, stat wise thats one sub and 6 characters. The US sub totals are the lowest, followed by EU and then Asia. However the high character stats just mean that most (if not all) subscribers have more than one character.
I know the Blizzard will release when it's done, but all signs show that WotLK is coming out this year (proabably November). They've said more than once it's coming out "Q4 2008", blue posts indicate a pre-expansion patch coming soon and they've released the intro cinematic. Probably they want to make sure that WAR doesn't get much momentum on them.
So far what Blizz has shown me hasn't impressed me. What my coworkers and friends who play it say is what will influence me the most.

The stats show the characters being played THAT DAY (or part of that day). And that were traced by a census client which logged in that day.
I don't know many players who play all of their characters on a daily basis )
Again the stats show that US has MORE played total characters than EU (but EU is incomplete due to the new Russian servers. )
So while the stats of this Census Plus thing show trends it isn't exactly 100% correct.(a census client not logging in can make a huge difference for that day -and result in a lot of characters not measured for that day etc...).
I don't know why everyone seeks "hidden" and false information behind every tree when Wow is concerned. Everything can be traced rather easely. From Xfire stats, to Vivendi financial reports etc...
It's as if there would be one big conspiracy conisisting of a rare kind of Maffia that manipulates the Western popularity of Wow.
Here is another example of its current popularity: just some sales figures of NEW basic boxes. A reason why you have to include ALL level 10-level 70 characters being played daily.

I was going to let this argument die even after you completely flat-out lied, twice now, about me earlier and put words in my mouth. It seems that you are intent on this message, but you are not putting anything new into your message to further explain yourself and seem naive to what other people are saying.
1) Total character count means approximately squat because it is the weakest, most subjective, variable to determine actual subscriber numbers due to numerous reasons. The reasons include: gold farmers, trials, bank alts, regular alts, and ignorance of the games age among others.
2) Almost everyone I knew would at least log onto their mail character, or lowbie alt. I myself would often bounce between all of my characters depending on what was necessary for the group.
3) Whether or not the US has more characters, is irrelevant. How the hell did that come up? Oh... you brought that up. I don't know why.
4) You keep saying "hidden" and "false", please elaborate on what you mean. Exactly what was "hidden" or "false" in that persons message and/or my own? I believe that I was 100% straight forward about what I was talking about and linked my source, it was clear cut textbook style.
Please reply with a more substantial response, if you do respond. All three of your posts look alike and have little or nothing to do with what was actually being replied to.

Yes I agree character counts aren't a good idea of how many actually playing. If I logged on my bank bot for 1 min then logged him out that is one character that has been "played" that day. I know some people that before they hop on their main will logon each of their alts to check mail. Doing that would show several characters as being "played" for that day.
All we can honestly say is about those numbers is people have a lot of alts.
I do not understand why the WoW subscription numbers are such a sensitive topic. Everything points in the direction of declining subs and much higher attrition than before in the western world:
- Realmstats
- Warcraft/TBC new box sales (quite high)
- Blizzard ad campaigns to get back or get new subscribers
- The push to get WotLK out of the door despite needing a bit more time (as it looks) if it is to reach Blizzard quality
- Blizzard's decision to scrap the large graphical upgrade that was on the table (hence they start to put those development resouces behind another product - SC2, DIII or the next MMO).
Nothing bad with this - it is in line with what you would expect from a 4 year MMO that has changed the MMO industry.
Part of the problem with the numbers being so "sensitive" a topic is some people use subcription numbers and characters played interchangeably. People will say "only X amount of people play in North America" and someone fires back "you lie, WebSiteX says Y characters play in North America". Then the arguing starts.
A telling statistic to me is how hard Blizzard is trying to get new or former players. We got commercials with well-known people asking "what's your game?". Recruit A Friend and Scrolls of Resurrection were added as well. When they announced WoW was released in Latin America, we didn't see any follow up statement about increase in subs. Could be that WoW has reached a plateau? Even if they lost for example, 2-3 million subs, I don't think Blizzard should worry that would still be a lot of income.
I must say after reading and seeing the things coming up in WOTLK expansion, i am truly disappointed. Blizz is taking $40 (or maybe 50 or xpac?) from our pockets just to have 1 more new playable class... death knight There are like 4-5 more new instances most of which have recycled monster models with new colors. Naxx is recycled again so i get to play 2 year old content again... Tradeskills are still a joke, and without raiding mats u cant only craft stupid useless stuff. Few more BG's... shouldnt we have more than 4 in 4 years. And forget BG's everyone will form an arena team and afk out to get their free arena gear... play a rogue/druid or warrior/druid anything with druid and win...
I was very hyped after seeing the cinematic but i am not going to pay for the content which should be free after 4 years. I will try WAR for a while, even if it sucks at least i will be fighting against new character models...
Beast boss in UBRS model = Chromaggus in BWL lair = Demons in Area 51 = Trash mobs in WOTLK instances... recycle more???
Trust me, WAR doesn't suck.
after playing WAR beta for 24 hours, i cancelled my wow sub.. because WAR is so extremy more fun..
I did acturly think that war would suck, so i whas sceptical with buying the CE, but now im so happy i bought it
1. Adding one new class is a big deal when the classes are setup the way they are in wow with lots of wiggle room and more thant 3 diffenrent playstyles in each one. Also blizzard is trying to keep a strong pve balance and a new class is hard to implemtn when the other classes already pretty much cover all the bases.
TOTALLY disagree with the classes. If there is abalance issue without even adding any class they overpowered druid in arenas and everyone is LFM druid .
They would easilly ad 5-6 new classes all these years mate...Very easilly its just 3 talent trees only..
Why shouldnt they make a barbarian class or a vampire sub undead race/class? Or a swashbuckler rogue style , a mellee oriented hunter or many mnay other classes?
All they had to do in the last years is to experiment with the talents as they usually do.
The answer behind new classes implement is the wow players aren't demanding enough and since they see in blizard that their business is going well they simply dont have to change much mate.
If AOC was a real opoonent or WAR will cause drops to their subscriptions or even DF dream comes true wow will sink and get ready not only to see barbarian class in wow but also frogs humanoids in plate armour ^^

What are you talking about seriously, vampires? swashbuckling rogues?? do you actually know anything about wow or warcraft lore. Warriors are barbarians look at heroic leap or bladestorm thats as close to barbarian as your gonna get from a blizz standpoint. Melee hunter already exist there called bad hunters .
Blizz is trying to stay somewhat faithful to warcraft here jeeze gimme a break and go play some random mmo with way to many classes all of which are useless by them self.
Overpowered classes make for better balance, than under powered ones. go play a little warcraft 3 mod called dota and you will understand.
Hype is my nemesis. i will fight it til the day i die whether i take it down or it takes me down. So depressing, Yes?
Well I will never play WAR since it has EA slimy logo smeared on the box. EA will never ever get a nickel from me or a minute of my time for any game they even remotely have anything to do with. Which is too bad since I did enjoy DAoC quite a lot.
As more info from beta comes out it makes it even less appealing, to me at least. You read that DK's will have all blues once they leave the starter area. Wow, that's great you think. Then you see the stats on these so called "rare" items and realize they'll be all replaced by the time you get through hellfire at 61-62. Heck the lvl 60 Blade of Misfortune BoE 2h sword is a vastly better weapon that your blue runeblade you get. So if you have any, save them for launch then drop them in AH for an absurd markup.
Arenas were the worst thing Blizzard did. I just wish they'd have a "final" arena season and be done with it.

I was realy hoping for player housing with this Exp oh well I'll still be buying it.
After waiding through the pages of WAR reactions of more neutral players now that that game is "open",
I can only hope Blizz will only publish when the game is "ready".
Blizz ready that is.
The gap between Blizz quality and each new other MMORPG trial launched is widening at a frightening speed.
Top quality control of your Avatar is the secret of Wow and I hope it stays that way in WotLK.
