I much prefer games that are skill based rather than level based to start with but if I am playing a level based game then I try to ignore the levels if at all possible.
People play games for as long as they are having fun with them, some people find achievements such as leveling quickly a fun thing to do...I personally do not.
What does it matter if the leveling process is split up into 50, 500 or 5 levels? It is just an arbitrary measurement of progress no? If it takes 400 hours to hit max stats the only difference is the amount of ding sound effects you hear.
It took me about 24 game hours to obtain 99 in Ragnarok online. (i solo'd so don't bother to bitch about the long term for me to get the last level)
And i enjoyed it. I was at the same map killing the exact same monster for over two months. But it's not the mobs that makes it fun for me, it's the goal and progress. And yeah, sitting at vent talking with people i know helps alot aswell
so i'd say. Yeah, i have no problems spending 7hours on one level.
The speed of the mole and the power of steel is my weapon
7 hours killing the same mob? No. 7 hours doing anything I want ranging from crafting to PvE to PvP? Yes. To me, gaining a level is not my goal. Having fun is.
Exactly, sometimes I end up doing things pure because they are fun but do give very poor xp, fun is my nr1 factor to play a mmorpg.

hmm the point about having fun and levels not mattering is spot on, but for instance, I am playing WoW recently and you take a look back and you see yourself doing the same lame activity over and over and you begin to question whether people really enjoy this sort of gameplay. Judging by some of these responses, perhaps I am growing out of mmorpgs.
That depends, if your mmo is nothing but endgame then no I wouldnt like it, but then again I dont like mmos that are mmostly endgame. Give me a game with no limits and I would enjoy any amount of time to level.
If you mean watching the XP bar and hating the thing you are doing to move the XP bar, then the answer is obvious. If you mean you are playing the game and having a lot of fun when suddenly you ding a level and say wow, that was fun then notice seven hours went by, then the answer is obvious.
If you mean, you are a clever fellow and trying to make an obvious point, then I think the answer is obvious.
If that level is challenging and if there is a stinging penalty for dying, then yes. Although, I'd rather get the level a bit faster, that level must feel well-earned if the conditions I just mentioned are true.
Now grinding without risk is quite boring. And endless PVP zerging without risk is even more so.
To be honest, yes. I like it when games have hard to reach levels. I am in the minority I'm sure but I don't like the new Vitality system that was added to Lineage 2 for instance.
Believe me, it woudl take far, far, faaarrrr more than 7 hours to gain a lvl!
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
depends on what im doing, if im running solo delivery quests (you know the "I need 10 wombat spleens") then hell no. if im in a great group doing a dungeon crawl for great exp and loot. then not at all.
socializing is the key to these games thats why i can't stand the wowification of the genre.
I enjoy leveling it is fun. If it takes forever to level(and I can't find away around it) I hate grinding levels. That bores me. The overal level I have ever gotten to in an MMO is probably my 50 in runescape .
if i want to have fun, ill have fun and not try and level. If i want to level, ill grind and do quests and not worry about having fun. I dont want to spend 7 hours for 1 level, unless its towards the last 5-10 levels i need to hit the max.

Sure. I enjoy leveling as long as it is quest leveling that takes u to different part of the world and kill different stuff and *grasp*, even with different strategies.
7 hours killing the same mob? No. 7 hours doing anything I want ranging from crafting to PvE to PvP? Yes. To me, gaining a level is not my goal. Having fun is.
*nods* to the last line. Though the 7 hours part these days for me are literally a tall order to achieve. 4's the max.
Nah. Im a lvl 40+ in LOTRO. It can go days before I gain a level. I just want to have fun and enjoy the stories and lore. Noting wrong with a bit of exploration either.

No.. I'd like to spend 7 days.

It could be 7 days as long as it's fun... how that's supposed to happen I don't know though..
The longer it takes to level and raise skills the better. It's all about the journey, so a more lengthy journey equals more fun.
If theirs something interesting to do within those 7 hours, then yes I would love it.
But if its just grinding on a pack of mobs, or quests, then no.

levelling sucks big time but thats what the McDonalds crowd wants so thats what we get.
What's the difference? 7 hours gaining a skill level, or 7 hours gaining a level.
Same thing.
