Well I'm in the open beta for WAR and I'm really liking what I see. Graphics better than WOW, not as polished but it will get there in a year or so. Combat is a little goofy right now but AOC combat isn't all that great so I'm sure it will work it self out with the devs. Fun factor, this is what has now made me move over to WAR as my MMO, it's just freaking fun to play. Quest are fun, some very funny, PQ will be fun after beta I'm sure. RvR kicks butt, PVP is great, and wow you actually get stuff for doing it, rank, and leveling, loot, cash, extra stuff and all from PVP, wow what an idea, wink wink Anyway I just think WAR is a great fun game and I'm looking forward to seeing everything it has to offer. Sure they have some issues but not enough for me to not play, not when I'm having this much fun. O no, don't let me become a fanboi please, shut me up now
So if your standing out in the desert in Hyboring, nobody to quest with in your area, or instance, they might be standing next to you but you wouldn't know it. Maybe just walking around in circles looking for a group, well don't be down my friends you are saved

WAR is much more fun than AoC and the graphics suffice

I have to agree with the OP.
With AoC, at least in the parts that weren't broken, I had the sense that I had played it all before. I know the AoC folks desperately want to believe that the game is "next gen", and is just chock full with innovative systems, but it's just not. The way it plays, it's just another warmed over (and pretty below average) PvE MMO.
In my opinion, AoC is much more a clone of WoW than Warhammer is.
The graphics in WAR do not look anything like WoW, other than some of the stylistic approaches. Not surprising, since Warcraft "borrowed" heavily from Warhammer in the first place.
The RvR is a lot of fun so far, and the PQ's are more innovative than just about anything you'll find in AoC.
Oh, and so far for me, though it's still in beta, it's a lot more stable than AoC is even now, three months after release.
WAR has been a very fun game so far. It won't be for everyone, but I think a lot of people are going to enjoy it.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Really?? people actually find it fun? After playing the open beta today theres no way in hell I'll be picking this one up. Feels just like WOW and the combat completely kills it for me. After AOC I just cant go back to the dice roll, single target attacks.. but have fun in it if you can stand it.
WAR is not better than AOC. Man the graphics is very old school. WAR is not for me I could not get into the game, I played for like 3-4 hours. Im not playing it again not going to buy it either. I still have my AOC account and I think they are going to try to make it a great game. I know that they didn't put everything in the game that was on the box but it's coming . At least it's not a clunky junky graphic game like WAR. The graphics in WAR look alittle better not much than WOW. The game play is better in WOW. WAR is not a WOW killer. AOC here I come.
I'd say they are about even (in terms of gameplay and such. Not sure about polish and all that. Warhammer seems pretty good on bugs so far but hard to tell about higher level stuff) WAR doesn't really bring much new to the world of MMO's. Pretty fun PvP that can be enjoyed by virtually all (not really new but WAR does it in an interesting way) and perhaps some slightly inovative classes but I really haven't noticed much else.
AOC brought a lot of new stuff to the table but unfortunaly it was not complete or it just wasn't inovative enough. AOC had dialog trees (something that MMO's should start all having) but unfortuntly the writers did not really change the outcome of the conversation for the different options. The combat was new and slightly different but sadly they did the system a bit wrong that it becomes boring after awhile (course it's still faster and slightly less boring than many combat systems out there). Can't really think of much else at the moment but both fail and do good in many areas but neither of them unfortunatly make me say wow course I'm a picky MMO player. I tend to like more than just levels and gear.
If you want to play a solo game ( AoC is a solo game ) with uber graphic why the hell are you playing PC game? go get a ps3 or a 360 .
Mmorpg is all about gameplay and epic war to me . I have played UO with crapy isometric view for 4 years and yet its the best mmo ive ever played .
Well as bad as AoC turned out to be after Tortage and how Funcom keeps torturing their creation, I gotta say that WAR was damn boring straight out of the box. I'm not gonna complain about graphics or such, its just the gameplay that feels so outdated. It feels like playing WoW in slow motion and with some built in engine lag that isnt lag, just feels like its more waiting and less being active somehow.
That doesnt mean that WAR is a bad game or not even that I wouldnt like it. But if I cant get to try endgame in it I wont play it cause lvling in it now is boring. I wanna try the realm vs realm pvp and see if that makes it fun. I bet it is aswell and that its more or less the opposite as with AoC, that the game gets better the further in it you get. But come on, they need to make it more interesting from the start. Cause now it just feels outdated.
My hope is if some friend gets high lvl and demonstrates how the game is then. But my pre-order is now cancelled and I'm out in the void again waiting for some developer to, what now seems magically, create a competitive MMO to WoW. Very afraid it wont be until Bioware releases their Star Wars MMO. Now I'm just gonna try and survive until Wotlk is out and see if that brings any new fun to WoW, have some hopes about the new siege bg there.
I think Warhammer aint gonna sell as many copies as AoC on launch, but they hardly have to do anything to beat AoC in subscribers unless they decide that we wont listen to the community and break the game more and more every patch.
Warhammer already beats AOC to death in the fun category, content, patching and performance. All in all its great, already feel I got my $50 worth and its just OB.
AOC on the other hand felt like a complete waste of $50 and was the most boring MMO I have every played.
WAR is boring straight from the get go, and doesn't improve. Combat is sleep inducing, the positive? i went to bed early that night.
GW2 the future of MMO gaming
Ya right nice try trolling there but you missed the mark , Combat is war is real fast paced once you get past lv 2 . After you level up a bit , get more abilitys and actualy learn to play its fast , always attacking/doing an ability or skill etc never a slow moment realy . My wife and i both play and its just as fast paced as other mmo's out there without being too fast and killing the fun , but no its not a hack and slash game.
I'm digging the RvR, and the fact that I gain XP by Killing people . Hell, I haven't done a PvE quest in a few levels, and that makes me a happy gamer!
My feeling exactly, the combat is just so boring. Coming from AoC and now back to auto attack, it just seems like a huge step backwards. I couldn't go back to spam clicking 3 buttons again. I know all of stuff is broken in AoC but WAR is not the answer. everything about that game disgusts me.. w/e have fun it, this is just my opinion.
wow and warhammer same game dif graphics.
age of conan rocks in graphics .
warhammer online buggy and 4 of the reg class,s and races have been took out because were not done .
call this hybrid wow clone for kids.
got love way age of conan went adult only and left the kids at home.
good work funcom.
currently playing in open beta so far waste of 10 bucks to play open beta.
ur a nub
are u telling me aoc is better cuz its not
when i got to tortage the game lost me and that was like 15 minutes
the truth is i actually stole aoc from target cuz i didnt want to pay for that crap and i wanted to play it
im so happy i just tore that box open and grabbed the cds and key cuz i tell u they couldnt pay me to play that crap fest
o and by the way combat in aoc is something new
new i said... not good
AOC has two things: great graphics and great music. Oh, they also have boobage, dismemberment and decapitation which is good too. But combat is core to an mmo, and while AOC combat might be fun at first, I think it would get tiresome later. Also, instancing kills that game. There is no feeling of freedom and exploration.
WAR I am just becoming acquainted with, but I think it will be the number 2 mmo when the dust settles.
Good post, I totally agree with you too. AoC has some flaws. Instancing was one of the biggest hurdles for me to get over to continue playing. A massive open world is just awesome. I usually just go to Khesh and never even notice we were instanced. But a completely open world would be ideal. But thanks to Age of Conan i would consider playing an instanced game again. I didn't bother me as much as i thought it would. The combat i still find fun. its not perfect and easily exploitable but it was fun, and thats all that really matters. Since this is a WAR vs AoC thread id like to point out somethings about WAR.
One thing that bothers me from what i hear from guildies on the open servers, is that if you go to a tier 1 zone when you are higher you get turned into a chicken. Which i understand the idea behind this but i think it is horribly implemented. Why have a huge free open world but when you cross some line you turn chicken. Seems self deafeating to me. Also the combat is long dead. The one button spam click is so old. If they would do something a little creative id love this game a lot more. As of now i feel like i wasted 10 dollars on the pre order. I will continue to play the open beta in hopes i warm up to it.
