'Open' Beta

So I've tested many games before and have been waiting to try out WAR for about a year and a half now. I was quite excited about the game... until the 'OPEN' Beta turned out to not be open at all... Only if you preordered the game or decided to check mmorpg.com a few days before the beta was to begin did you even have a chance to get a key.

Every game i've tested before has had an open beta stage in which it was open to EVERYONE.. not just a handful of lucky gamers.

I am extremely dissapointed in mythic's choice of making a limited number of beta keys available, which leads me to beleive there could only be two reasons for their decision.

#1: The game/servers pyhsically cannot handle to client base, which is going to be a big dissapointment to all (not including myself because I now refuse to buy their game) on release day.

#2: They are trying to boost their sales before people figure out how unstable/incomplete their game actually is by making it nessecary for one to purchase the game before ever getting the chance to test it, even those of us who have been following the game since it's infancy.

Great job Mythic, you never fail to dissapoint.

You've botched DAoC and you are set on the right path to ruin what could be the nex-gen MMO.

Also, anyone who voted 'no' to the poll, please explain to me why you are happy sitting here reading this forum instead of testing out WAR.

I cant be dissapointed becuase they explained long ago what definition of open beta they chose.

I would be dissapointed, if they had misslead me or lied to me.  But they didnt.

I voted no, and I would be playing but I'm at work.  Can't play here, so I'm stuck reading forums.

I saw what a true "open" beta did to Lineage2, so no thanks to that ever again.

They clearly stated a long time before Beta started that this would be a preorder-only beta. You do not have a right to be in an open beta... it's a priviledge given to you by the company.

It's mainly a marketing scheme on Mythic's part, one that worked out well for them. By limiting Open Beta to preorders and closed beta testers, they acquire more preorders for people who are quite sure they are going to be playing at release and therefore will want to play Open Beta, whereas if Open beta was for everyone, they mostly would not have preordered.

Either way, I don't see why you should be complaining about this open beta. If you didn't get in, oh well. You should've preordered, I guess, or gotten into the Closed Beta. Either way, it's only a week long then the game comes out.

As explained by both Mythic and other Game Companies, Open Beta does not mean that everybody and their dog can play.  Open Beta means that the NDA is been dropped and so everyone who is in the Beta can now talk about it.

Also along with that, it doesn't matter if they allow 20,000 or 2,000,000 players play, all they are wanting is testers to test for bugs and enough people to fill 1-2 servers to test for stability; anything more than that and it's over kill.  Too many people talking at once, and of course money spent on bandwith.

I'm not disappointed because I knew about it ahead of time, anyone could have gotten in with a $1 box purchase at target or a pre-order online that can be cancelled.

Also the fact that every MMORPG released in the past 4+ years or so worked exactly like this, having a limited open beta. Even L2 made me go and buy a disk at the store for like $2 for me to play.

So Mythic and everyone else on this planet failed utterly because YOU  didnt manage to get an open beta key. Most people would call that arrogant...or lazy...or both.

    Meeeeeeeee waaaaaaaaaaaaaaants...

Oh and im reading this because i actually played WAR for the last 8 hours now but sadly its almost 4 AM here and work starts in a few hours.

I read the forums because I've seen what I needed to see when it comes to WAR.  I'm definately going to purchase the game, I just can't see myself working on leveling a character that will be erased in what 5 days now.  I'm looking forward to it, it's a fun game.

Looking forward to : Guild Wars 2
