We have never advertised the guaranteed Open Beta access of the CE pre-order program to be a unique one-time offer. It is understandable that enthusiastic fans perceived it this way, however, and in hindsight, underlining that there will be other means to gain Open Beta access could have helped creating more realistic expectations from our CE customers.
As the name suggest, the Collector's Edition is made with collectors in mind. One cannot collect Open Beta or Head start access, but one can collect miniatures and other unique WAR merchandise. If you don't value that which is the essence of any Collector's Edition - collectables - rather than insinuating that you have been deceived you should ask yourself why you bought a product which you were clearly not very interested in anyway.
Regarding Beta. Yes, we have promised Open Beta access and we are giving this. The launch has not gone as we, nor our players were hoping it would. Whereas we are very sorry for this and doing our outmost to get Open Beta on the right track, these sort of problems are to be expected with a beta. This is, after all, a large scale test. From these experiences, we will be able to identify and rectify many problems we could not have detected through small scale testing.

how the hell do any of these guys have a job or are allowed to actively talk to the community when everytime they do so is in a condesending manner

That's absolutely disgusting.
The man is right though.
hes semi right but his words where ill chosen its like flame baiting 100K people
Well, the man is working in a business where 99% of the customers are (or at least behave like, just watch these forums) complete fricken morons, and this is the only language these people will understand. Nowhere did it say, when I pre-ordered WAR, that I would be guaranteed successful login and a complete gaming experience before launch. It said I would be allowed to parttake in an OPEN BETA TEST, and indeed I am! It just so happens that this beta TEST showed some huge shortcomings in their server capabilities. Personally, I'm glad that this happened now, and not on day 1 of my PAID playing time.
Seriously, how many of you whining little buggers were actually going to actively help out and do actual beta testing work? And how many of you just see open beta as two weeks of free playing time? I'm willing to bet my left one that most of you fall into the latter category.
Here's hoping that gaming companies PR people get even more vitriolic and scare away more whiners because to be frank, it wouldn't be much of a loss. Geez.
They are covering their backside.
The game itself is excellent - it is 100% their cock up of the registration process that has knacked this for virtually every player in Europe that wants to play the game now.
Their actions will have caused a lot of potential players to walk when they would have stayed and played in droves if they had been able to access OB when it launched.
It is hard to get people that are used to one MMOG to remember what it is like starting and learning a new game from scratch so you give them any additional excuses in their minds re how the game is going to be and they simply will not invest the time and effort needed to learn the game and play a character to a high enough level to make a direct comparrison between what they already have in their favorite game.
There will have been people in Mythic that recommended they didnt go with GOA but Mytic have little choice now I would suggest other than to stick worth them.
Why it wasnt possible to just duplicate the USa setup interms of account management and registration etc I dont know, but if it was GOA insisting they had a better way .......
Yes a lot of understand it is BETA but we are not here to test their website.
well, he is right about collectors edition, and he does apologise about mistakes on beta. So why are you moaning?
And it is BETA! Its not a full product. So give then a chance, will ya?
Same attitude as their CEO - the one who doesn't address us little people!!!!
Ant then we had the potato famine....
Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands? ~Ernest Gaines
Please excuse me but ...hes a fucking moron! Honestly go make some french pancakes or something and let someone responsible do your job ...what a twat!
A game is made or broken by what is done BEFORE it goes live.Look at FWO and vanguard and many other mmo's.if no one buys it or people are given reasons not to buy it, then the game will suffer. All of those people who payed for beta keys and then didnt recieve them will most likely find other games.I liked the graphics I saw of warhammer, loved the warhammer universe etc..etc.. however after being shortchanged from EA's site itself, nope I wont be buying it.Of course I wont be buying anything else from EA either as quality has been thrown out the window in favor of how much money they can scam people out of with empty promises.Toa hurt mythic badly, it pretty much killed DAOC, joining up with a company that did something like this will only hurt them more.
The sad part of it all is originally daoc was hands down 10000% better than wow.I loved everything about the original DAOC's systems, pve and pvp both.Leveling wasnt too boring of a grind yet made everything seem worth doing the work for on any class in the game < I know this because I built every class/race in the game in the years I played it >. No way wow should have outsold DAOC except for mythic gave their customers away. They were warned before the mass exodus to wow and didnt believe it.
At this point though the damage to warhammer has been done.Say what you want but there are going to be people reading about and expeiriencing this open beta fiasco and they will not buy this game or accept it in any way shape or form.It will end up another failed launch or dead mmo due to the company's mistakes.I still get come back to dark age of camelot emails, and at this point, I dont care what my account name and passwords are, nor will I ever. The same can be said for warhammer, I will never log into it or spend a dime on it, I feel lucky to have gotten my money back for the 2 copys and am glad im not going to be one of the morons stuck with it.
Please excuse me but ...hes a fucking moron! Honestly go make some french pancakes or something and let someone responsible do your job ...what a twat!
Seems professional, to the point, and he apologizes for their screwups. I fail to see the smugness or why he's a moron?
I read it expecting something similar to what the Funcom devs would write, and it just comes across as an explanation and an apology to me.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
its wrong of them to expect players to beta test their game - next time i see an mmo with beta testing in it im not going to join in. if this OB fiasco leaves a dirty mark in the history of WAr then the makers only have themselves to blame
Well I can see his point, after all this a is testing period designed to get things right for what is the main event - launch day.
On the other hand, there is little to be gained, other than a flame war, from saying anything else other than "we have problems and we are actively working on getting them fixed".
Obviously GOA has a history, and I was an European player on the DAoC American servers for that reason. From my point of view, I was prepared (and still am) to give them the benefit of the doubt and play on those servers until proven wrong. Damning them to hell for problems pre-launch is a little knee jerk reaction -although if I had an open beta key I might be thinking differently
I don't want to beta test games that look like they will be fun. If I think I might actually play it when it releases, I don't want to beta test it.
Beta testing can be frustrating, and suck the fun out of a game.
If, on the other hand, I think a game might suck, I'll beta test it because there's nothing lost. For example, I was in the VAnguard beta, and it pretty much sucked. It still pretty much sucked when it released, so I wasn't missing anything.
But if it had been good on release, I wouldn't have enjoyed it, because I'd have already explored everything while is was buggy and crappy. I'd have been frustrated during that exploration, and then when the game was released in decent condition, I'd have nothing to explore, cause I'd have already been there done that.
So if it's looks like it might be a good game, let other people beta test, and review it for you, and pick it up on release.

that must be where I have been going wrong.

Thats very noble of You to defend Mr. "Im sorry and now go ...yourself" but in my humble opinion all he is doing is throwing us a bone (not to fresh one to) to simply fulfil his marketing duty. In my opinion there is nothing professional in defending yourself by attacking your own playerbase by telling that they were silly to think that open beta was for them and that its obvious (ok Im exaggerating a bit) that 80% of us wont be able to play it when infact its GOAs fault hands down. To make an attack like that in a situation like that ... hes a cold blooded twat for me...but again that my opinion and hell am I pissed...
He is not being kind thats for sure.
I mean, you arelready screw it up, you really want to keep ****ing with the playerbase.
Besides, what is he talking about? colector edition? right now he should be adressing the account creation sistem which is still down. (or kinda)
Beta or not beta, for the game (and not the customers) this was it's real release.
Yeah there are a lot of people who will buy it on release no matter what. But there is also people who wanted to try the game before buying.
Some of this people in europa will never buy the game because of this epic fail. And some others will move to Mythic.
Lets wait until launch and see how many of these people mentioned above and see if this is the biggest epic fail of gaming publishing or just a minor setback
Last... Magnus? i mean... it's hard to deny the acusaction of delusions of grandeur with that name
Cinsidering this abyssmal fail on their side, I am worrying about the CE headstart... But once they fail at that too, I am sure they will make some crappy announcement, about never having promised that either.
I just don't get why mythic isn't doing anything about this. Lots of talk, but thats pretty much it.
