I finally managed to play this game today after I don't know how much crap to get through, and I'm unimpressed with the way it runs, I can do WoW, full settings without the full screen glow effect at around 20 fps in all areas, and around 40-50 indoors, it's not great, but it's playable.
Why can't I run WAR at low then? I know WoW is as old as the hills but there's no way a computer that can run a game like TF2 on low with a playable framerate can't run WAR on low with about a 5 fps peak.
I have a decent computer, 500GB hard drive, pentium D processor, 3 Gigs of ram, the achilles heel of my system is the GeForce 7300SE AND I'm running XP which isn't half as bad as doing this with Vista, but surely it's capable of running a game like WAR on the lowest of low settings
Is anyone else experiencing these issues, any idea what's happening about it? is my computer really THAT bad? I need an explanation because I really want to see my witch hunter move around in a fashion that a slide show couldn't beat

It sounds like your computer is indeed that bad... What is the speed of your CPU? I can almost guarantee it is your video card keeping you down. Upgrade!!!
It's a 3.4GhZ dual core processor, I don't mind the game looking bad but really, lowest resolution, no special settings, view distance ALL the way down, even a pile of rusty bolts should be able to run a game like WAR on those settings adequately
Edit: I shall be upgrading later on, in about a month's time, 8800GTS and a new 500ish watt power supply, then I should be able to keep up with the newer games, 'cause the rest of the stuff in this computer is perfectly fine
Your video card is ancient. Upgrade your video card and all will be fine.
Check the supported video cards for the game before you buy it. There is a stickied thread listing them.

Pentium D is an older Dual core the newer Dual Cores are faster..that old Pentium chip along with your crap tastic budget card is giving you the hold up. My friend has a Dual Core 2 processor with a similiar card and she gets some lag but its nothing determinatal. Its mostly in your processor.
The Pentium D's have a nice Front Side Bus mother board bottle neck of 800 Mhz. While most computers use 1066 or higher.
My friend sets hers at Highest Frame Rate but nearly maxes out the viewing distance and she has little to no problems at all despite some server side mostly lag.
Having a similar problem, according to sys requirements lab my PC goes way over the recommended specs for the game and i still have a few issues...major slow down in towns, textures not loading properly and the biggy is that I keep getting black screen then a graphics driver error that recovers again after 15 seconds...
Could it be a memory leak?

Ok, cool, as long as it's just the graphics card I'm happy, I've always hated the thing anyway, woulda replaced it by now if it wasn't for my power supply holding me back, I'm really unhappy that I can't try the beta properly though, I thought I might scrape by on medium but it seems even low is a challenge
Op the only thing wrong with your system isthe video card. I am running the same ram and processor as you with a 7900Gs and can run it on max.
just upgrade the video card a little and youll be fine.
It would probably be a while before I can upgrade my processor though, I could barely afford these 2 sticks of ram a few weeks back, I hope the card is enough to do for now
Thanks, that's reassuring, just makes me more eager to take this thing out and snap it in half so I may replace it with a card worth my time
What settings are you using? Fastest Frame Rate or Highest Quality? I use a Balanced setting and my computer is similiar to the OP's except I have an 8600 card and only 2 gigs of ram. I've not had any of the problems you guys are listing. I have had one CTD and server lag.
Oh bugger me, I was gonan buy this game aswell but my computers even worse then that
no War for me
<---- I'm not that bad if you get to know me lol

The word "similiar" is very dodgy when it comes to pc builds.
OP,your processor isnt that good tbh and holds you back alittle, your GFX card is quite bad even back in the day when it was new,if you can get yourself a newer card it will help but again you will still be held back, also dont go out and buy something like an 8800gt etc card without checking if your system will get bottlenecked or more importantly if you have the power to run it,the last thing you want is your pc closing down or restarting the game due to lack of power.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Yes I'm also running WAR on balanced settings but I get the same thing with all 3 settings...
It is getting rather annoying
I do not think its his processer at all. I think he needs a new video card and then he would be good to go. I had that old chip and it ran EQ2 fine with a Radeon x800 XL card. I think EQ2 is alot more demanding graphically than Warhammer will be. Dude go to Pricewatch.com Yoou can find video cards that will work for your system there for good prices. If you do not have the dough to upgrade its the best place. If your Motherboard does not support PCI express I would suggest you try a Radeon X800 XL AGP for the money its a damn good card. If you need an AGP card better start looking now they are getting harder and harder to find. I hope this helps :P

I'm not sure quite what bottlenecking is, I'm guessing it's the card isn't running at its full potential due to other hardware? but I'm definitely gonna have an adequate power supply to run the new card, the processor isn't the best but it does well, dual core, 3.4ghz, not the most efficient or powerful but it's far from crap. I'm making sure I get a good power supply when I get the card, the processor I shall have to consider another time when cash once again enters my hands, but for now my top priority is getting a nice card, if bottlenecking is what I think it is, then I don't mind so much, but it's more than likely I'm incorrect, PCs are far more confusing that I first imagined after upgrading from a laptop, that's for sure.
I have to agree with banthis on this one. Your Pentium D chip is really that craptastic for modern video games. Especially those games where you will want to render 100+ character models in RvR combat. Your best "bargain to performance" bet is a mid level Intel Core 2 processor (or AMD equivalent) along with a Nvidia 8800 GT 512 MB on a PCI Express bus (or ATI equivalent).
Also 2+ GB of 800 Mhz DDR 2 RAM would definitely help along with a motherboard which can support the newer equipment. The hard drive size is basically irrelevant to game performance as long as it's big enough to hold the OS and the games you play. However setting up a pair of drives in Raid 1 or Raid 0 will improve your read rates, especially with SATA drives. Another bump in drive performance can be had from Western Digital Raptor drives since they spin at 10k rpm, but that is an expensive option for the amount of performance boost.
Cleaning up your OS so that only the mandatory components are running is also going to drastically improve your overall system performance. This means turning off things like the IPv6 stack to improve performance if you are not using it, and disabling unnecessary start up programs like messengers or chat.
If you find yourself buying "off the rack" systems from places like Dell, you are always going to be behind the curve on game performance. If you can read directions, and use a screwdriver, your best bet is to do some research on New Egg, Tiger Direct, Zip Zoom Fly, etc. and piece together a system that meets your budget from scratch. Pay close attention to part compatibility issues, and you should be able to assemble a computer at the price of a Dell with 4 times the performance. Make sure you read the fine print on specs and the customer reviews. If all of this comes across as Greek to you, then you need to enlist the help of someone who has more computer knowledge to help you make these upgrades.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, I really hope my processor's fine, seeing as everyone seems divided on it, but I personally have no problems with it, but I knew the day I bought the PC that this card was bad news. I'll probably have to use an Nvidia card though, I don't remember why any more but I definitely found a good reason, thanks for the suggestions though, I will definitely have to carry out some more research into this computer, when I first bought it I thought it was as simple as installing new parts when needed, but most things seem dependant on everything else from what I've been reading

Tell you what mate I see you live in the UK,I live in Holland and have a 7600gt card in the attic doing nothing it is a very solid gamming card and if you want it send me a pm with your address and its all yours.

You shouldn't be having a problem. Mind you, it does take 500-600k memory to run. However, with your specs you shouldn't have a problem, eh.
if you only get 20-50 fps in WoW then the rig must have pretty low specs..
i get 120-200fps in WoW

Same. Read some of his posts, could def. be his graphics card. Update that puppy, your computer is ready for it.

Thanks, unfortunately I'll start off by telling you that yes, this is indeed an off the shelf system, at the time I had no alternative (I was a lot younger than I am now, and I'm only 16) At the time I loved it, my limited knowledge of specs led me to believe I was getting a powerhouse, minus the graphics card which I knew was pathetic. So I really just put all my faith in upgrades when they were required. As I am currently a jobless 16 year old, I can't purchase parts when I feel like it, the graphics card will be from gift money, and I'll have to try and squeeze a power supply in there too.
I cleared my OS and its junk programs, recently bought 2 gigs of ram, it was chea[ but 3 gigs beats the 1 gig I had previously.
I've started doing things myself now, I installed the RAM myself and am planning to do the power supply and graphics card too, so if I ever am in need of a new PC and have the cash, I shall definitely be building my own.
Thank you for the help, I'm very impressed at this site and the community so far, it's great to finally get fast, helpful advice for a change

That's what I'm talking about! Good to see some niceness is left in the world.
Did you mean that the graphics card is your achilles heel or that the computer itself is your achilles heel? You should consider getting a new computer.
