Dont know about US forums but EU official forums are ok, also czech forum all are full of great people now. I cant see any problem on tentonhammer forums either.
But I agree that mmorpg.com AoC section is destroyed, but its not because of AoC, its because of people!
And to your statemnent, I agree on first part. Posting never looked so sexy: They think if they post some bullshit, its IN and they are COOL GUYs. Also bashing AoC is very modern trend now, but why it have to be lies most of the time? Try to play a game as its today before posting ANYTHING in thats game forum...

Well if you say so.... It couldnt be that the censorship on the Official forums and somewhat here, havent gone a long way to making the forums APPEAR great. If by great, you mean people that actually like playing what most have already decided is a hunk of junk and moved away from, then yes your right!
Dude lets just admit the truth: Game Design 101 Chapter 1 What not to do : See Age of Conan and sub chapters on: forum practices of FUNCOM.

I was lvl 80, so I'm pretty sure I know the game very well. And for you to blame people for a downfall of a forum is idiotic, People have every right to post there opinions and comments about a game. I agree they need to be removed if it gets too vulger, but if you look around (not just on these forums) most of the complaints about AOC are very similar. So to me thats saying something!

I didnt said, that there arent problems with AoC. There are, but people here trying to destroy game (and only here) and thats why they are creating useless topics, saying twisted truth or lies, making 100 same topics/week or sometimes/day and some of them didnt play game for very long time (2months+).
Imho that is not normal and that people should take a look for medical care and mmorpg.com for some forum moderators.

AoC destroyed itself. Worste game in mmo history (well maybe not as bad as DnL). I dont think any game had 700,000+ subs only to have it all dwindle away in less than 6 months. I call that a total failure of epic proportions.
If a game company is really serious about it's game, has nothing to hide, and is ready for the long haul, it should not be afraid to host it's own forums.
That's one point I give to Funcom. At least they did host their own forums. However, they did have something to hide - an unfinished product stealthed by marketing hype. Bad, bad move for anyone, no matter if you chose to have an official forum or not.
Tabula Rasa didn't have an official forum and now anyone can see why that is. They also had something to hide. They knew their product wasn't finished, released it early as well, and didn't want to deal with people complaining about it on their own site.
It's not whether or not a company has an official forum or not that determines it's chances of success, it's what that company did prior to it's release and what they do after it's release that determines it's success.
Tabula Rasa knew that they had features they were marketing that were not going to be seen by players for a long time, if at all. They knew their game lacked content. They knew people were going to talk about it. So, no official forum. Their decision to push that game out the door left them with nothing. Decision makers ruin games. The legend Richard Garriot headed this game.....why Richard why?
In a way, I kind of question the sincerity of an mmo company if they don't launch an official forum. What are they trying to hide? What is it that is wrong with their game that they don't want people communicating about on their official forum? How are they going to communicate with their player base?
I guess the trend of no official forums is our clue that we are in for a stretch of games that are released way to early. It must be too profitable to actually wait and release a game well made. I mean, to have players that are actually happy, that cannot be allowed to happen I guess.
**sigh**
Sorry for the rant....thank you.

I think you have a valid point. It does get old seeing so many negative posts about a game. However, I do believe that AOC is a unique case and the phenomenon you're seeing is the direct result of the actions of Funcom.
Whatever Funcom has or has not done has caused people to speak out about it. The sheer number and intensity of that response from players I can understand being interpreted as rather neurotic.
But if you really sit down and look at all the details of everyone's arguments, I think you'll find some big, and I mean BIG, reasons for this reaction.
No one is trying to destroy this game. AOC was a mess of a game to begin with. Funcom has shown a track record of taking that mess and making it worse. Everyone has their own tolerance levels and it looks as though Funcom has tested gamers patience to the max.
People are not destroying AOC. Funcom is destroying AOC just fine all by themselves.

I would have to say this game destroyed alot of peoples faith in MMO's.
Many of my friends feel burned by Failcom (including me). We are being much more cautious about buying games through preorder now after the AoC disaster. Several of my friends have quit playing MMO's all together because of this mess.
Congrats Failcom you've made a revolutionary step backward for MMO's.

Totally agree, they lied so bad and then try to stop ppl telling there feelings on forums etc. The lies from them made me quit! I dont wanna pay liers!
Lets not give funcom all of the credit. I think fanboys had a considerable role in the downfall of the forums as well. All of that misinformation and overly positive spin/propoganda tends to get people riled up. Really if fans and funcom had just either told the truth or, incapable of that, simply hadn't gone on their crusade to snuff out all opposition, things wouldn't have turned out like they did.
Ultimately, an end product is only as good as the materials that it is built from. You build up a game and community on filth and deceit, its certainly not going to result in any kind of quality.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

All in all AOC was a good wake up call for the community.....buyer beware.
