Another Warhammer BETA opinion

WARNING: The following contains bad grammar, horrid spelling, and a hint of typing while tired. Multiple animals were harmed during the typing of this overview.

So I thought I would throw out my opinion out to the audiance of peopel that may or may not be thinking about playing the game. I'm a long time MMO gamer that has played them all, raided it all, PvPed it all etc etc (just like everyone else lol).

First off, do NOT get your hopes up.. this is not a WoW killer. This game spins the features of multiple games together while adding in some very nice twists of it's own. If you plan to log into this game, immediately crap you pants, and delete all your other accounts.. you will be disappointed.

Initial impression: "Wow this looks alot like WoW" doesn't fade very fast as the graphics and gameplay feel very similar. Is that a bad thing? Well judging from Blizzard's profits I'd say no.

Played to lvl 10 so far on destruction greenskins...

Map and terrain: The world is very dynamic with paths that cut through mountains, steep hills, battle worn terrain etc. The world seems very alive and not by overspawned mobs, but by the terrain style it's self. The world is rather hard to get use to because it really pushes you to get use to your character before you go darting off to a major city. It took me a week to figure out how to even get to the capital city, but I didn't mind because there is so much to do along the way. The map follows a chapter progression as you make your way through the world and you can't help but get sucked into a public quest anywhere you look.

PvE: Lots and lots and lots of quests. Nothing fancy, so far here except for the public quests which are WAR's PvE bread and Butter. What is a PQ? Think of a GM event (for those that even remember them)  where the loot is distributed by a preformance bonus + random roll. They are very fun and you find yourself not minding doing them over and over lol. The groups have an option to be opened to the public, which will allow people the option to join your group through a very simplisting interface. This is great as it allows soloers that don't really like talking to join up with others like them to take down a quest.

PvP: There is a lot I can say here... but I'll keep it simple. Scenario are like WoW battlegroups except they have a feel of FPS matches. There is places to hide, terrain to use to your advantage, and other feautres that make the replay very fun. There isn't much 1v1 fighting as the game naturally pushes you toward group fighting with well placed choke points, terrain advantages, and NPCs. Ganking = non-existant. Also, in a lot of places the NPCs fight alongside of you allowing you to fight with the AI on a common goal giving an almost sudo-PvP effect simetimes. I haven't gotten to play in the high teirs yet, but large scale PvP is a key in this game though the common player doesn't need to fear it because the game doesn't feel liek a "blink and your dead" PvP game.

Crafting: The crafting system is a little complex, community centric, and used to give buffs. "Want me to craft an uber set of armor to get you started?" doesn't exist here because the crafting is used for buffs to your gear and your player. The problem with it at the moment is that you need multiple peices of loot to craft something and if you can only get pieces A and B on your own and no one has piece C in the AH (because no one can find it yet) then it's rather hard to make stuff.

Community: I can't comment on this yet because it's Beta and we all know the community changes at release.

Biggest Pros: Public Quests, Fun PvP

Biggest Cons: Future "Nerf this class" cries, Current bugs "Not attackable", Too little map/area guidance

Game breaker: no /dance command... (lighten up people)

funny thing is ...   /dance was one of the first things I typed in the game!!!

yeah, i agree emotes need some work, but it's open beta at this point.  also... what do you want to deal with:   lack of emotes or ... lack of working game lol.

There is no dance but personally I like /katadance more than the /dance from most games.
