right, im a long time wow player, and an even longer time UO player. im SO bored of wow its not funny... im waiting for the darkfall release, and want something to do in the meantime, so i had a look at WAR on various sites, youtube, the official site etc...
from the gameplay trailer, it made me think OMG this is boring, everyone standing there auto attacking, it made me think everquest... which i played for a while, and which i would rather play... but then i thought no no, lets not discount it on that, so i looked up some gameplay vids on youtube, found some RVR base defending and such... it appears to play just like WoW, my gf even said 'wtf? that IS wow isnt it?' to which i said 'nope, how many bg's in wow have multiple floors in their buildings'... then i watched someone playing on a level 3 white lion... ITS A MELEE HUNTER... not to mention when i explained the order/disorder thing to my gf she shouted HORDE/ALLIANCE at me...
anyway... im kind of interested, but at the same time, as you can see, im having trouble with it being so apparently similar to wow... will it be / is it so similar to wow that im not gonna find anything different or fun to do? or is the general gameplay so much different that its only cosmetically the same?

Do some research, the entire Warcraft Universe is a rip off of the Warhammer Universe. Look it up.
I would say that the graphics compare to WoW and of course there are going to be some similarties between the 2 because WoW was and still is a great game but the gameplay is totaly the opposite of WoW. In Warhammer you are fighting against the other faction in different tier sets finally reaching the capitol city and siegeing it. In WoW as you must know the game is focused around the PvE content such as, Illidan, Lich King etc...
My two cents is your should found out more on the game and come release maybe check it out and subscribe to it for a month and seee how you like it if you don't well WotLK is still coming
Bored of wow? I've heard a lot of that, I've got news for you wow fanatics, wrath of the lich king is going to be a new patch with addons and new fancy schmancy names, maybe new colors, some new land to show off these new color armor/monster/weapon/[random object here], that's the way of the add-on now a days in mmorpgs, guildwars was good, but every patch I've played was just like playing the original game from the beginning, I played UO since the 1997 E3 phase 1 beta and quit finally in 2001, and haven't subscribed to an mmorpg since, but guess what I'm subscribing to Warhammer Online aka WAR, because this game is great, maybe it will get old after a year I don't know, but I do know that unlike wow, the WAR universe is based on a tabletop game with 25 years of experience and stacks of books full of material that could potentially used for future additions to the game, the race option, the massive map, the many many different quests are the best part of the game, the PvP, RvR is amazinly fun, so both quests and pVp is challenging and fun, just an example on the quests, there's normal a b c quests, there's open chapter quests, theres rvr quests, there's open realm quests, they don't have names really but you accomplish them and gain XP faster doing these quests, there is NO grind for me so far and I've been playing a while, I do highly recommend this game over wow.
If anyone asks me what game I'm playing I'll say I play this online game called World of WarHAMMER ONLINE, cuz it owns.
Dwarfs only check out my guild.

I've logged almost 48 hours since last Friday. If you are using auto-attack, you are going to die. Combat it only slow when you are soloing, I've grouped with my guild and things get hectic very quickly.
Just an FYI...Mythic originally developed Dark Age of Camelot. It was a team based PvP game that had three realms. Alliance/Horde setup isn't even close to unique, many games have used that type of setup. Mythic had a number of problems dealing with balancing of three separate and unique realms so they decided to change things and go for only two realms. Another aspect that would have made it much harder to do more than one is the way in which Mythic intended to implement meaningful RvR from the onset of character creation. They did this by setting up racial pairings based on the lore from the Warhammer world and set them up so that each race fought their mortal enemy. Empire/Chaos; Dwarfs/Greenskins; High Elves/Dark Elves. They took the team based approach from Dark Age of Camelot (which came out November 2001, 3 years before WoW released).
Games Workshop has been around since 1985 and have been refining their art style over the past quarter of a century. Blizzard (before it was known as Blizzard) made an RTS game based on the Warhammer world but Games Workshop pulled out. Blizzard made enough changes to the game so as not to break any copyright laws and released it as a game known as Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. If you look at the art style from Warcraft 1 and 2, they have a strong resemblance to the older Warhammer artwork.
As for the White Lion, no actually it plays a whole lot differently than a melee Hunter. There are some similarities but so is pretty much any pet based non-Mage class. Btw...the WoW hunter bears a very strong resemblance to the Midgard Hunter from Dark Age of Camelot, minus the stealth of the DAoC Hunter. There isn't much in WoW that is unique. Blizzard has always been good at taking the game mechanics from other games and polishing them to a high luster. Blizzard is anything but revolutionary. There are some similarities but the differences are significant between WoW and WAR. The Tome of Knowledge is a revolutionary addition. Is WAR perfect? Not hardly, but my guild is having a lot of fun playing it and as such will play it upon release.
lol thanks to the guys that actually told me a bit about the gameplay, to those saying omg the lore is better etc... ive played warhammer fantasy battle for longer than i care to remember, i really couldnt care less about the background lore, i didnt in wow and i wouldnt in this. i was asking about the gameplay, because my research left me sitting there thinking, for the reasons i listed above, that it seemed pretty similar to wow. i tried to get my head around the RVR thing, have a basic idea, BUT everyone seems to assume that you will know what it is and whats involved, anyway. thanks to the guys that helped out with what the gameplay is like... but i still want to know if the base mechanics are too similar to wow...
also, will they be releasing it as digital download? or disc only

The gameplay is that of an mmo, these days they're all the same pretty much
Only differnce between WoW and WAR if you were to ask me, is the lore, and WAR is RvR based, while WoW is PvP based.
Nah wow is PVE based with pvp tagged onto it later on.
Nah wow is PVE based with pvp tagged onto it later on.
Nah WAR is PvE based as well, with overhyped pvp advertisment.
REALITY CHECK
i disagree,
imho lineage2 grind is vastly different from wow and ddo adventures are different from that as well
its only wow and war (apart from 200asian grinders) that share a lot of similarities (wich i dont considder bad)

WAR and WoW are very similar games. The main differences between WAR and WoW are:
1. WAR have one big and complete conception, while WoW is just bag with small mini games that have nothing one with another, except Item grind.
2. WAR have massive gameplay in the form of PQ for PvE and RvR zones for PvP. WoW have some similar features that almost noone practice becasue they are very limited and not rewarding.
So WAR is jut one "M" ahead of WoW. The "M" of the "Massive". WoW is missed it.

war is basicaly a wow clone with more focus on pvp nuff said
Nice Troll
How about you go back and read the Thousands of WoW Vs War posts, note that EVERYONE is Fucking sick of this comparing them Bullshit and move on to another topic.
WoW is just a Eq clone with easy leveling , nuff said .
well it is so everyone should just stop living in denial
Oh noes, a Darkfall fanboy doesn't like WAR. How can that be?
I wouldn't wait on Darkfall until someone actually plays the game and reviews it. Videos are nice, and I can't wait on the Watchmen to release, but you can't play videos like you can play a MMORPG.

That doesn't make him a fanboy. Your lame reaction do however make you a troll.
All MMOs are pretty much the same.
You're suffering from burnout, it's natures way of getting you to try something different. Changing to another MMO where you're doing exactly the same things won't allieviate your boredom.
Go get a girlfriend or try RL bowling or golf.
Your burnout will eventually go away and you can play MMOs again.
wow basically is DAoC clone, but you even have not mention it.
WAR is just DAoC successor.

ZOMG no way you mean it has a pet ... 100% hunter. Like dude, i have this toon called a cablist in daoc obviously a warlock copy (ignore that anoyning thing called time),, its a caster with a pet ... for sure lock copy.
Dude you just showed how you have played a total of 1 mmo ever , wow. Gratz .
What is sad is in war there is a class called a sqiug herder and that is very similar to a hunter in that its range and have a pet. But you obviously know nothing about the game to miss this.
In light og this i would like to say thank you on behave of all mmorpg forum goers for your totally uninformed opinions based on the least amount of mmo experience possible.
