WoW gets a lot of free advertising from threads like this. People will say, 'why is everyone so emo over WoW?' They'll notice it has a 10 day free trial. They'll try it out and forget about WAR.
You aren't going to find hardly anyone here reading this that hasn't at some point played WoW or already made up their mind about it.
WoW never was, and never will be recruiting the majority of its customers from MMORPG players. Almost every dedicated WoW player I know and knew was a non-MMORPG player before.
People joined in knowing Diablo(2), coming from RTS, console, even people that were not familiar with online gaming at all joined WoW. And I don't pull this out of my behind, you can clearly see it by the lack of any significant subscriber loss at the competing games during the WoW times. Sure, some really old ones like EQ have fallen in numbers, but overall, WoW players are not MMORPG-players...
Simple truth... so coming up with WoW as an issue here won't get the game any more subs. Word-of-mouth in middle-schools and equivalents around the world will... definitely..
If I look around and watch closely WHO actually plays Wo W continuously, it's ages 14-19 with a history of FPS, RTS or console... F2P MMOs at most...

If you have a computer, odds are you have played WoW. I liked it for a few months, then the monotony got to me.
I don't like the fact that it's again a Wow-WAR war over here. That wasn't the meaning (really !!!). I hope you believe me all. I hate those mindless Wow hate posts. I think you should compare WAR with AoC and I think it is the better game in gameplay value. But the best would have been indeed a mix of the two.
Excuse me but I dont believe you. Why? Well I have seen many of your posts bashing War, while you havent even tried it... now that you try it (not even sure if you did) you are bashing it in a "mature" way with your review.
I'm no War fanboy... nor a Wow hater, I played Wow yes I enjoyed it, I overplayed it and now want something fresh, something different. I've found it in War... this is the first time I am enjoying all the classes I try from the first few lvls. I'm not gonna tell you War rules so play it.
What I am gonna tell you is stop posting this "mature" reviews while you said crap all day about War without even knowing anything... hell I remember your post about telling Mythic devs liers cause the rogue global cooldown in Wow is 1.0 secs instead of 1.5 secs. Are you an idiot?
Stop trying to act mature... we all know how you are... play whatever you want I don't care.

Exactly: War is on the shelves and everyone can see, feel and play the game now.
I see the Wow hate then and I see the Wow hate now. Because it's based on useless and meaningless 4 letter words.
And BTW the GCD was indeed changed to be adaptable in patch 2.4 for all classes (just like the rogue had 1.0 sec in GCD for ages).. The fact nobody accepted this, was proof of hyping and believeing the very word of God (Paul) almighty.
But you can't argue over a myth can you.
We now see the almighty "next coming of Jesus" in real life and we all can see it.
Shouldn't be a problem at all. .... or should it ?
I am so glad this period is over and out. Everyone can see for themselves now. Just play.

Oh Boy. Oh Boy ... first impressions. Some day I may need to do a complete review of this game. But ... honestly. I don't get it anymore. Perhaps playing too many MMO's lately. Far too critical and far too much Wow playing I suppose. But the game is stable. That I can say. Only 1 time crash in 4 hours playing. And the fact I played for 3 hours and managed to get to 6 ( - I know - you can't possibly judge a game completely by level 6). But ... sorry for the fan boys/girls it won't be the new "IT" in MMORPG's. What's lacking? Well let's say you play WITH an Avatar, you are NOT your avatar. The character floats over the landscape, you are not IN the landscape. In fact you're not IN a world it seems. I had the exact same feeling with Tabula Rasa. There is stress, there is this kind of running everywhere, but you're not IN a MMORPG world. Cause? I think its the graphics and the general programming. It is lacking. Animation and movement of the avatar is NOT better than LOTRO. And that game suffered from it. Saying the game is the same as Wow.... couldn't be further from the truth.... In "that" game when you approach an enemy camp, you feel it, mobs react, danger surrounds you. You are IN that camp in that world. In WAR I don't get that feeling. My character is there but everything around it isn't 'done right". Mobs don't react like they should be, you hardly ever see things as 3D world experience. I will certainly play it in the next month and perhaps even beyond. But WAR won't stay on mosts HD very long I am afraid. No need to react to this and say things like go away to fucking XXX etc. Not needed . The only thing is that it is sad really. Another lost opportunity in a very small field of qualtity MMORPG's. Opinions don't even matter. Just be sure the game won't get those 1 million subs. THAT I know after playing it for a few hours (too much MMORPG tested and played these last years). Played 5 scenarios, did the quests, particpated in the first PQ (and even got loot in 8th position killing that beautiful giant on the third level- good design btw)., but the game isn't touching anything we haven't seen before done better on the micro scale (and believe me that counts for most). So this is not my final review. But a first impression and it doesn't score above TR or AoC content wise. It IS more stable and has better play value than AoC, but not much. PvP is very odd at the moment. No one speaks. It's one group bashin another group and the bigger group wins. First scenario is weak: respawns at your camp: taking the same techniques after 3 playing already. No this is just a first impression, so I should stop rambling I know, but it won't be a long term interest for most.
I can't take this pile seriously. I've read your posts, your opinions. You made up your mind LONG before you even laid eyes on it. And with that, your drawn conclusion, you went ingame. What happens then, is basically you looking up every single small detail that is wrong with the game (based on your biased opinion) and posting it yet AGAIN on this forum.
Seriously, if WAR doesnt draw you into the atmosphere, WoW surely won't either. Judging by what you just posted (and your previous posts), all you did was prove that you are what people here would claim to be a "WoW-Fanboi". And damn you for making me say that.
actually the WAR fans started the whole WAR vs WoW discussion in this thread, and altho every review/impressions are at least a bit subjective i must say its a fair mini-review, there are enough valid points
the whole "dont judge the game at lvl 6" is a weak excuse, first there are only 40 lvls in war so he aint that quick with his impressions, also why bother playing a game for several hours until it CAN start to get fun? a game has to grab u from the very first lvls, it can always get better later on but if its a real mess the first lvls the other lvls wont be magically a blast

WoW, long time no see from famous wow-troll memoir. And Vicksburg aka TeamFortress is backing it up. Usual "blizzard is world wander" s**t and WAR bashing. Guys, get it, your WoW is crap for every player who likes pvp - I mean real mmorpg player, not kid who never has tried anything beside WoW and thinks that he is hardcore pvp-er. And if you want to troll just use your brains, because your trolling is just beyond the stupid.
Thank you for your in-depth, unbiased professional review.
Even thought I have been playing for several months and I have been loving it, I am now going to quit because of your review, I can see that your superior intellect is greater than my first hand experience.
Thank you for showing me the errors of my ways, I will now save time and money all thanks to you.

Actually, no. If you read the original post, the OP compares WAR to WoW himself in the first post.
I'd rather have a game get more fun as time goes on than pull an AoC be fun at the beginning and then stop soon after.
I'm having fun in WAR now in the early levels. I don't see the issues the OP mentions as anything major. I guess I'm not as picky maybe (no, this is by far not my first mmo for anyone who'd like to make that type of snarky comment).
Memoir, you've been trashtalking WAR from the getgo, I dont think the concept ever really sat well with you. Im loving it and hadnt noticed any of the problems you talk about. My opinion is that your opinion is wrong. Frankly I have no idea what you were hoping for, but I wish you the best of luck with finding it. Toodles.

You aren't going to find hardly anyone here reading this that hasn't at some point played WoW or already made up their mind about it.
Anyway, I wish fingis does forget about WAR. But I guess we wont be that lucky.
I actually think the review or first impression is fairly accurate. You may question the OP's motives based on previous posts but his points in this thread seem to mirror many other peoples opinions including my own.
The graphics are fairly average and the animations are not that great. These are real problems in the game. If you don't care about how a game looks thats fine, but it's unfair to suggest that because you don't care then no one should care.
I think its also true that everyone looks the same within a given career. It's true that in the end game in wow everyone also looks the same because everyone wants the same gear, but I don't think that is true while leveling in wow. In WAR my sorceress has had 4 different "robes" lvl 1-10 and they are all the same models with different colors. It's just not that interesting. Again, there will be people that say "so what? Who cares about what you are wearing?" But, there are people who care, and they have a right to their opinion and a right to express it.
I think WAR is pretty good. I don't see much innovation. I have not been hooked by it, but I think the developers did a pretty good job from what I have seen in the first 10 levels. I'm interested to see how the other RvR elements play. The Scenarios are ok, but not any different from BG's.
People need to accept that not everyone thinks that WAR is going to change water into wine. Not everything about the game is perfectly excecuted. I think that the devs have stuck to the basic vision of a PvP/RvR game and hopefully that vision will allow players to have some fun. That seemed to be ONE of the big flaws with AoC, the devs had no real vision for the game, but hyped it to be revolutionary in every possible aspect. Mythic has been very straight forward in what people should expect from WAR and that is a very good strategy.
1. Don't read reviews from people who only played the first few levels. That goes for quests, pve, pvp, gameplay, graphics, the whole lot.
2. Game changes and expands very very quickly past Rank 7-8 from your first proper Warcamp. This is where you get to train your Renown Rank Ablities (quite separate to Rank abilities and Skill system).
3. At around Rank 7-8 you gain access to the Flight Master and through that the starting zones from the other races AS WELL AS you Capital City.
4. Graphics.
a) This is BETA. Graphics are turned down and there is an issue with textures in the distance not loading properly, the reason why they seem so blurry. It will hopefully be fixed for release.
b) Due to the issue in a) some areas with a lot of rock terrain and mountans will look ugly. However forest areas with vegetation look nice, and buildings and structures and inside areas overall look very good. Check out Altdorf or Inevitable City with AA/AF forced through drivers and ONLY THEN talk about graphics. They do not suck a little bit, compared to WoW this is a great improvement.
c) Scenarios. For some reason, the texture loading issues seem less visible in Scenarios. Orc starting area scenario isn't very impressive visually, but jump on a Wyvern and fly to the Chaos area (Nordenwatch if I'm not mistaken) and play the Scenario there. I think that visually it's QUITE IMPRESSIVE.
5. The number of available quests and options multiplies by 3 or 4 as soon as you reach Rank 7-8 there is just so much to do and the game really picks up in pace. More abilities become available and combat is ANYTHING BUT SLOW. It's tactical though, finally Tanks have a role in PVP. I'm one so I can tell. And it's all about choosing the right choke points and tactics as opposed to hitting 4-5 directional buttons for one skill.
Just my 2cents. I've got a lot more to say but want to stay focused and keep the message clear:
- don't judge the game too early before you get to see it properly
- this is still Beta and not Release
- duo to the above graphics are turned down
- there is an issue with loading textures from distance which makes them look bad and blurry especially rocks and mountains and this will be fixed
- try out various scenarios especially the one in Chaos area (Nordenwatch). For some reason it has less graphical issues and shows the potential of WAR in terms of graphics better than some other areas or scenarios
- around level 7-8 there's plenty of new options that open up to the player in terms of PvE, PvP and character advancement. Hell, I had no clue there were separate Renown abilities until I stumbled across a trainer in my Warcamp!
- check out Capital Cities with AA/AF on high if you can, they are quite impressive imho
If I would have looked up "every single small detail that is wrong", I should have written a complete other report.
Like : "when a house is on fire and you need to free the people inside it... you can open a door, but you can't enter the house... " that's called odd surroundings and not very good finishing touches. or when you need to attack the enemy artillery and you see a few dozens of mages standing there, apparently without much purpose but standing there, 'that's called mob intelligence". BUT I would NOT like to go into these , because it doesn't even matter to me. it's trivial. I posted what I saw . Nothing more - nothing less. Opinions don't even matter much at this stage. Game's out. Try it.
First of all, you wouldn't write a complete report. You couldn't, actually, since the OB client is still a performance client with a lot of things missing (Mostly graphics-wise).
Second, you can't enter the house because it would be futile. its burning, after all, isn't it? And with you saying that, I rest my case about the "looking up every small detail" I was on about.
Third, name me any other MMO that apparently does have your so called "mob intelligence". Sure, I see your point. I'd love some more "involvement" from NPC's, but at this point, I don't see why it would make WAR any less interesting than whatever MMO.
Fourth, if it didn't matter to you, you wouldn't have started about it in the first place. Am I right? But I agree, very trivial.
And lastly, yes, you posted what you saw. Again I emphasize your pre-concluded (Is that even a word?) opinion. It's like me trying out Neverwinter Nights 2(which I loathe) and telling people on the NWN2 forums how much I find it to be "Meh". It's quite useless.
Opinions DO matter by the way. It's just that most are based on emotions, rather than facts.

First : I never bashed WAR. I don't hate games (sickening).
Secondly: you were all believing the hype of a myth. You can't argue against a myth.
Third: Hype is closed now because the game has gone gold and playable.
Apparently....
... the only ones having problems with that are the same guys who rocketed it through the roof 4 weeks ago.
Game is out now. Myth is gone. Stop blowing the smoke around it.
WOW has a free 10 day trial? See Ya WAR !
The scores for all the games dropped. I think they might have culled very old votes.

An excellent point.
Hi Guys,
Good advice to all of yous:
