TCG Getting A Expansion Already....

firefly2003firefly2003 Member UncommonPosts: 2,527

Considering that SWG's long track record of broken systems and massive bugs and no actual core game expansion ever going to be released again , but however the new Trading Card Game out less than a month is already getting a new expansion.. all I can say is WTF.. Smed must have made out with the TCG revenues with all the little kiddies paying for a chance to get new shinies and the carebears that cant go without having that new item... read about it here at this link or on this pageforums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m

It's nice to be back from the surface of the sun, otherwise known as Las Vegas, to the frigid 90-degree Austin weather. It was a pleasure meeting those of you who were there at Fan Faire. I had a good time chatting with everybody and I look forward to being able to do it again next year. I was particularly impressed with those that jumped on the Star Wars Galaxies demo machine and showed off your houses. There are some stunning decorators out there! I truly admire your patience and excellent designs.

Less Than 1% Of People That Attended Fan Faire Making Suggestions For The Game And Not Really Representative Of the Community As A Whole... I Smell Trouble...

One thing coming out of Fan Faire this year, which everybody will benefit from, is our Fan Faire Suggestions program. In this program, we will be addressing as of the suggestions given to us at Fan Faire as we can over the next 12 months. Any suggestions that are implemented will be called out as a Fan Faire 2008 Suggestion in the release notes. All devs in attendance had notepads and took diligent notes as they conducted their panels and interacted with the fans in the lounge. We had a meeting last week where we consolidated all our hand written notes to a master file. In the coming weeks we will go through this file and determine which suggestions we will tackle first. Our goal is to include at least one suggestion with every major release (e.g., a Chapter or Game Update).

For anybody who didn't get a download from the Galactic Assembly Panel regarding our plans moving forward I thought I would quickly recap here:

* Chapter 11, The Battle of Echo Base, and The Galactic Moon Festival, our first ever Halloween event, will be released this October.

The Rumor Going On The Offical Forums This Will Be The Last Stand Content....

* Life Day, along with the first Trading Card Game expansion, are scheduled to hit this winter.

How About Fixing The Real Game? Or Releasing A Real Expansion For The Real Game? Oh .. I Forgot Time To Con Some More Nubs Out Of Their Money For New Shineys.... (sigh. facepalm...)

* Game Update 6, release TBD, will focus on Politicians, Player Associations, and Spies.

* Game Update 7, release TBD, will focus on Domestics and Structures.

During Game Update Domestics & Structures Will Be Removed And All Items Are Obtainable Now Thru The TCG  via  The Sony Online Store.

* We do not have any firm Update plans beyond Update 7, though there are several strong contenders under consideration.

How About That GCW Revamp That Is Sorely Needed?

* Chapter 12, Droid Commander, will include a revamp of the Droid Engineers. This will allow them to make droid parts and components as well as droid consumables. There will also be a new expertise tree to go along with this Chapter. Chapter 12 will release in 2009.

Copy & Paste Of The Useless Beast Master Expertise Tree. (Useless Money Sink)

I would like to clarify one final thing that was discussed at Fan Faire: space. Pwh and I had a couple discussions regarding when there would be new space content and what it would consist of. As for when, there is nothing is scheduled right now, though it is something we are interested in doing. As for what the content would consist of, the report pwh posted is totally accurate. It is extremely unlikely that we would further fine tune the existing ships or add ships. At this point we're more interested in adding missions for the pilots to take part in. Ideally in these missions we would find specific roles for each ship class (bombers, interceptors, fighters, etc). Some folks seemed to think that the recent slip of the V-wing flies in the face of these statements. Please understand that the V-wing has been planned and in development for a long while and will be released before we get around to doing any kind of content update in space. No, we are not prepared to detail how nor when the V-wing will be released at this time.

The V-Wing Will Being Going Into the TCG, shafting Shipwrights at new ships to create....

Finally, on the subject of low-pop servers, I only have a small update. Things are moving forward very rapidly now. We met with Marketing yesterday to discuss the timeframe of the program as well as the announcement timeframe. All the details are being finalized now. DevH is still hard at work on his tasks. I know that you would ideally like to hear the announcement now or even get an idea of what solution is that we've settled upon, this is all I can mention now until the formal announcement is ready.

Solution 1:Cross Server Instances Which Dont Help The Populations On The Servers At All...

Solution 2: Reduced Transfer Fees.... ( Really $OE's Plan The Whole Time.......)

As we roll through September, the majority of the team members will be chained to their desks finishing off Hoth and the Galactic Moon Festival. We're very excited about the fact that it won't be long until you've had a chance to run around and enjoy all the cool stuff that we have in store for you.

...well the card game might be the only interesting part of the game anymore.

And as for the Creature Handler "revamp"...it was pretty crappy. Odds are Droid Engineer will be just as disappointing - and that will be just the parts that work.....

My prediction is that Droid Commander will be an almost exact copy of the beastmaster system and will finish killing off the Droid Engineer profession. Remember, you read it here first.

Yeh but I'm plsying the emu right now and while I prefer the system..... fucking theres sooo many problems with it and thats with the professions and that alone.

The CU was sooo much better but they just needed to ditch levels.

The CU was horrible.  By the time the NGE was inflicted on the playerbase, the developers had only just started addressing some of the severe problems the CU introduced.  The CU was slapped on top of the game and seemed to be developed by people who had no idea how the game functioned.  It was lightyears better than the NGE, but it was still trash.

People say the CU was horrible and yet there was more choice of the number of weapons you could use and armour and there wasn't the annoying having to get doctor buffs to be effective all the time. The only problem I had with the CU is the levels and the animations but considering the pre cu animations are horrible as it is I couldn't really complain. However I didn't really see the need for the CU and all pre cu needed was to fix the issues I mentioned and the profession balance which is terrible.

I dunno though I can't stand the emu because you know its never going to get better and the game they're using was already sooo broken at that time and playing it again brings back all the memories of why everyone was complaining back then but people seem to forget that now.

I want a Mix of the NGE and the CU and PRE CU.

I want no Jedi professions and no levels with all the professions but I want kash and Mustafar to be in there and space to be in there. I want more variety unlike what the CU gave us in weapons and armour and to take out the stupid doctor buff system. I also want quest based advancement aswel as grinding because tbh I ahte grinding and had much more fun doing the ToOW expansion quests in the NGE than I ever did grinding in the old game.

However the perfect game will never come so I'll just wait for ambulation or the next sandbox mmorpg.

    Classic Smedley for ya.

This card game is likely bringing in more revenue than SWG has in years and he is cashing in on it.

It is amazing to me that there are people willing to pay to play SWG when it is so obvious that the core elements will never be fixed.

Yep he's got to rake in as much cash as possible before KOTOR gets too far along.

Yep and EQII will shortly be getting it's 6th card game expansion, they got the last one in June. I am sure Smed is trying to milk that game for all it's worth before Darkfall releases and kills the market.

Sounds about right. EQ2 never really recovered from it's disaster of a launch so they have to make up the difference with scams like card games.

    So...

How do you fix an MMO that has lots of old problems from the original system, screwed up new system, horrible animations, Fairy Tale-like glitter and sparkle effects as if Magical Fairies are flying about, neglected crafting, bears little-to-no semblence to the franchise it comes from, has had a long history of troubled development, and finally has a black-hole-like customer relations history?

Simple.  You introduce a Trading Card Game.

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." When I read that SWG released a TCG I just laughed, this game is one foot in the grave, so they release a TCG instead of finishing legacy, moving the content forward. Can't wait for KOTOR:Online

Well...I know an awful lot of StarWars fans that can't wait for another MMO option.  The thing with SWG and KOTOR online is that they will share the same IP.  It really doesn't seem like a fair comparison with EQ2 and Darkfall.  Are they sharing a single IP?

Also, from what I've heard, EQ2 doesn't have nearly as horrible a reputation as SWG.  When you put the bad reputation together with the shared IP, I think it gives you a much different picture than the EQ2/Darkfall scenario.

Also, a longtime player of EQ's card game explained to me that the system in that game is different in that there is no gambling for loot cards that affect combat.  SWG's got that, and that seems a lot more like a blatant cash grab.

If you look at these things, it's not hard to imagine Smed trying to milk the last drops out of SWG before KOTOR online is released.  If I was a businessman with a busted moral compass, that's what I'd do, and from what I've seen, Smed seems to fit that description.
