Hi guys!
I am an old Ultima Online game, and I got used to the fact that I could have my own house, decorate it and all.
So I was wondering if there is any MMORPG that has those characteristics?
Crafting and gathering included also :P
Any good games with those features?
Oh, and mounts also! Can't forget the mounts ;D
Comments
vanguard has own housig and mounts, no idea on decor tho
Second Life I guess?
The Lord of the Rings Online has a housing system. I had a short relationship with it so I can't comment on any of the other points.
The Realm Online
EQ 2
Star Wars galaxies has great housing options.
One of the only things that hasnt changed from release
Star Wars Galaxies has very good housing. Currently the maximum number of items that you can have in a large house/guild hall is 1200. You can place anything that you want anywhere you want. But it is the only thing that I like about the game.
LOTRO also has housing but I hate it. Maximum item number is around 100. Only certain items can be placed and only in certain spots.
There's actually quite a lot of games that have this feature. Two of the best ones (in my opinion) are Everquest 2 and Lord of the Rings Online. What I especially like about Lotro is that you can buy a house in your own district, so your friends can also buy houses in your neighbourhood so you can all be neighbours. Also it is cheaper to buy from the vendors in your little district.
There is also the option of a Kin House once your Kin (your guild) gets to Rank 7. I think EQ2 is introducing something similar, but I have not played it for months so I am unsure. Can't go wrong with Lotro though mate.
I've tried EQ2 trial a really long time ago and I liked the gameplay and all... But I don't think they had houses back then.
I will look into LOTRO, hopefully they have a trial going on. ;D
I really dont like "sci-fi", "futuristic" games so Star Wars is not an option, but thanks for the sugestion.
I am trying to find what Warhammer Online is going to have as features, but on their website it doesnt say anything... I am wondering if they have a house system?
EQ2 has always had housing but its instanced housing and everyone uses the same entrance depending on how big of a house you bought. LOTRO is isntanced too.
To me the only mmorpg that has ever had good housing is SWG but that game got turned to shit so don't bother.
DAOC has housing and mounts, but is a bit barren atm with the release of WAR emminent.
But they are considering releasing Classic Servers round 2, which will bring a bunch of players back to the table, so that might be a good time to consider joining.

The main things that I don't like about LOTRO housing are:
You can not place a house where you want. The neighborhoods are instanced and have less than 50 preplaced houses to choose from.
You can only place certain items in your house.
You can not place these items anywhere you want. There are prepositioned slots to put items.
You can puts fewer than 100 items in your house. Small houses only excpet 20-30 items.
DAOC is barren because they ruined the game years ago and it never recovered but also because its a very old and dated mmorpg. The people who still play it love DAOC and they havn't left for WAR because DAOC players think that WAR isn't as good with the RVR that DAOC is.
Well as a former UO player I am assuming you are talking about non-instanced housing which reduces your list quite a bit.
That's really it. Everything else uses instanced housing.
I like the idea of housing in Vanguard, I just dont like the dedication it takes to earn a house.
One of the most casual games Ive played that has a very nice housing system is Lord of the Rings Online. It doesnt take much to earn a house, and even though the housing area is instanced, its instanced along with other peoples houses and feels more like a community.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Now, what is an instanced house? Is it like a house that what you see is not actually yours, but just a model.
And only when you get in, is that you actually see your own house?
Awww mang =
There is not many good games with instanced housing I guess eh? =
I really liked Vanguard, but the question is, how many people play this game? =
Funny thing is that it's the only one that has no trial period =(
Phantasy star universe, But its a very lame game after the customization available which is amazing amounts, costs 10 bucks a month to play and you get to grind the same 6 maps for 2-4 months untill SEGA brings out a new map and you do that one for 2-4 months next. Thats how the entire game works. Maps and a big lobby, But the entire community does the same map.
Not to mention the community has more rude immature childish players than WoW per player considering PSU's size.
The OP is probably thinking mroe along the lines of UO where you could build your house anywhere you wanted and customize it any way you wanted...... Lotro has instanced housing (and they are horrible looking inside), EQ2 has instanced housing (nicer than LotRO but still cookie cutter), and Vanguard you ahve to buy a plot in certain areas (also very ugly houses)......Housing was about the only thing I liked about UO......
I think Darkfall is going to be your best bet for player housing. However, it is still in development but you can sign up for beta. Apparently, it is going to be non-instanced and very much like SWG. I really am looking forward to it.
Yes.
Funny, i searched this whole thread for Darkfall, and it was on the very last post
If you want customizable housing, Runescape might be a good option for you. RS isn't as eye-candy as all of the other games that have been listed. For a Java based game it looks pretty good. It's also free, with the option to upgrade for additional access to areas and skills (if you want to make your own house, you'll have to p2p). There is also no long download to deal with.
The housing system in RS is designed to reduce lag, so there are no "neighborhoods" to walk through. You can pick up to six places on the map to have your house portal. You can invite friends over, open your house to the public, or deny anyone access. Also no one can take items from or make changes to your house but the owner. If you don't like where you live, you have the option to change locations at anytime.
The amount of rooms and how much map area you can cover are determined by your construction level. There are about 20 different rooms to choose from. Some of the rooms you can get are garden, chapel, study, throne room, oubliet, dungeon (complete with your own fire breathing dragon), combat ring, bedroom (no you can't sleep on the beds) and study. You can build your house 2 stories high and lay the rooms out anyway you like. The furnishings are built by you with predetermined locations in each room. You do get to decide which sides your doors are on. As your construction level grows you have the option of hiring a servant. An NPC that will serve your guests, make you tea while you relax in your guilded throne, and run items back and forth to the bank for you all for a nominal fee.
Runescape also has lots of production skills. If you like to grind, this is the game for you. Aside from your regular combat stats, they have alot of crafting type skills to do. Be warned there is alot of clicking involved. Most skills have decent rewards as you grind through each level. They do keep it interesting, there's usually updates for members once a week. They have just started 2 new weekly events anyone can participate in. A variety of mini games with rewards. Events for the major holidays with their own special rewards. There's PVP if you like it. They also plan to bring back some all PVP worlds. There are alot of players online and there are some bad apples in the community, there are some nice people out there too.
I know people talk alot of slag about this game, for what it is; it's allright. I've played alot of games this one for me, is a good mix of combat and production skills.
As far as being able to decorate, EQ2 has the best furnishings I've seen anywhere. SWG housing is great as well, but as you stated, you don't like sci fi.
I really loved DAOC housing. While you were limited as to how you could decorate inside, you were part of a village. Unlike EQ2 where many people live in the same house, but you are just entering your version of the instance, your house in DAOC only belonged to you. I still remember this neat feature where if someone was inside their home you'd see the lights on from outside. Also, you could plant trees and gardens on your outside property. I really loved the housing here.
Aion's planning on having player housing.
Yes.
Funny, i searched this whole thread for Darkfall, and it was on the very last post
Thanks for the tip from both of you! THIS IS THE GAME IM LOOKING FOR!
Now, does anyone have a clan that I could use to register for the beta? ^^
I really liked the description of this game
RUNES OF MAGIC, free to play new MMORPG in beta currently - best housing I've seen in a while, next to Star Wars Galaxies.
Check out the second video on this site which is all about HOUSING:

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
I came across this thread for the same reasons. I'm an x Guild Leader in shadowbane looking for my "retirement" game so to speak. More or less, I don't wanna spend all of my time on pvp, so im looking for a more peaceful game where I can have a nice house somewhere lol.
In Shadowbane you can have a house, you can have a whole city if you can afford it, but you'll loose it if you don't have an entire army of about 100 skilled players to help you defend it, and having a house just for you is pretty much pointless.
