I'm going to be out of pocket this weekend, but I'll bring my laptop and hope there's a connection. Not much luck last time I was out of town, but here's hoping. We have grown quite well over the last two weeks. We are now at a formidable 21 members, 22 as soon as my brother recovers from his eye surgery. It's always good when a group of us like minded people get together to own those on the Destruction side.
With the open beta on the horizon, we at Numen Legionis have decided that now is the time to give everyone see our guild policies for the OB and release.
Foreword
Fun is our number one priority in WAR. However, each member, especially those in leadership positions, will adhere to our guild policies. Guild policies can and will be altered when necessary, but only by a simple majority vote within the Senate. Guild policies are designed with the entirety of the guild in mind. That being said, it is important to understand that our policies are meant to strengthen our relationship as individuals within the guild.
The purpose of these policies is to ensure that everyone is on the same page as well as know what to expect from guild leadership. These policies are not meant to be a form of absolute control. They are not black and white. As such, all issues will be handled by leadership to the best of their ability to interpret the policies.
If a guild member has an issue with someone or something that has happened within the guild, they will be responsible to inform an officer. There are three tiers of officers. The first tier is Centurion. Centurions will be responsible for dealing with all non-officer issues. The second tier of officers is the Prefect. The prefect will be responsible for all issues that involve a Centurion or any issue a Centurion is unable to resolve. The third tier of officers is the Legate. The legate will be responsible for all issues that involve a Prefect or any issue a Prefect cannot resolve. The Dux is the responsible for any issue that involves a Legate, a Senator, an Aquilifier, or a Signifier. He is also responsible for resolving any issues that a Legate cannot resolve.
The chain of command should not be skipped unless the issue needs immediate attention. The Dux or a Legate will handle all urgent issues. Urgency will be determined by the Dux or Legate. If they do not deem it urgent, they will inform the guild member to follow the chain of command. The Dux does have an open door policy, but will refer issues to officers that are able to assist the member if the issue doesn’t require his immediate decision. The Dux will be responsible for any issues that involve members of an alliance that are not part of Numen Legionis.
Behavior Policies
All members are expected to act in a mature manner. Arguments, name calling, slander, bigotry and lewd comments will not be tolerated in guild chat or on the forums. Discussions are allowed within the guild chat and forums, but make sure they do not cross the line into arguments. Arguments should be handled via private messages both within the game and within the forums.
All members are to be treated fairly and respectfully. Everyone will treat each other fairly and respectfully. Ganging up on other members will not be tolerated. Any officer that is found treating any member unfairly will lose their rank. Repeat offenders will be forcefully withdrawn from the guild.
Everyone’s opinion counts. Everyone has the right to say what they think as long as they don’t violate any of the other policies. Suggestions on improving the guild are encouraged. There is a forum specifically designed for suggestions. If a member is not comfortable posting their idea in the forums, they can private message the Dux and he will post the idea in the forums without disclosing who the originator of the idea is.
The chain of command will be followed. Disregarding the chain of command will not be tolerated. It shows a lack or respect for those members that have earned their rank as well as disrespect for those that have deemed them worthy of their position within the guild. It also shows disrespect for the structure of the guild. Repeat offenders will be forcefully withdrawn from the guild.
The actions of one reflect the actions of all. Although this may not be true, other guilds and member of any alliance may think this way. We are a respectable guild and will hold ourselves to the highest standards at all times. Any member that acts in a way that casts a bad light on our guild will be punished swiftly and without mercy. We are only as good as our name. It is who we are on the server. Everyone has the task of promoting our guild in a positive manner. Negative promotion will not be tolerated.
Everyone will need to contribute. Contributions to the guild are required. However, this does not mean monetary contributions are necessary. Every member is expected to contribute what they can, when they can. Whether this is time in organizing an event, helping others by answering questions, or donating money for a good cause, all members are expected to help the guild and each other. The Dux will help anyone in anyway he can. This is not limited to those in the guild.
Communication is required. Without people talking about how they feel or what is happening, the guild will fail. Everyone is expected to speak their mind as long as they do not violate any of the other policies. The guild is designed to be a group of close knit friends. Without communicating, we will never reach that goal. Members will have the forums, Dux’s e-mail, and in game chat channels to express their opinions. The forums will be the backbone of the guild’s communication.
Senate
The senate will vote on all policy changes. The senate is the ONLY group of members that can change a policy. A simple majority will be sufficient to change any guild policy. Senators are voted into office by members of the guild. They will act as representatives for guild members.
Recruiting
As we progress as a guild, we will steadily grow bigger and more diverse. This is expected to happen. As our guild grows larger our success will be defined by several factors. Some of the major factors will be: our adaptability, our structure, communication, and our requirements for joining the guild. Our structure has been designed with any size guild in mind. It is set up to work for a small guild, a medium sized guild, or a large guild. The senate and our officers are chosen to help us remain adaptable. We have several different means of communicating. Our officers are available within game, on the forums, and via messengers. Our recruiting guidelines will help define us and our future recruits.
All recruits will have to fill out an application. The application will be discussed by the officers of the guild, and then accepted or rejected. The officers will have one day to discuss the application on the forums. If they have not come to an agreement by that time, the application will be rejected. A simple majority will be all that is required for an application to be accepted. The officers are to base their decisions on whether or not the applicants’ answers fit our guild policies, goals and ideals.
After the application is accepted, the applicant will become an Apprentice. For the next week, they will have access to our Apprentice forums as well as limited access to guild features. Apprentices will be examined during their week trial to see if they are a fit for the guild. If at any time during the week they are deemed to not be a fit, they will be removed from the guild. After their trial period is over, the Apprentice will be promoted to Legionnaire. Upon becoming a Legionnaire, they will gain all of the rights of a full-fledged member.
Ranks
A key component of our guild structure is our rank system. Our ranks are designed to help control the flow of information within the guild, as well as assist our members in any way possible. Each rank has specific duties that if performed well will lead to a successful guild.
As a member progresses in the guild, they will gain more responsibility and greater access to guild functions. As such, each successive rank has the same responsibilities as the rank below it. However, their focuses are different. No member will be forced to take a rank they are not willing to accept. Once accepted, the member will be expected to fill their role to the best of their ability.
Higher ranked members will be expected to lead by example. They will be held to higher standards behaviorally. They will also be expected to participate as frequently as possible within the guild. This does not mean they have to give up their lives to the guild, but a commitment is given when a rank is accepted. Participation can be forum based, game based or activity based.
Apprentice- The Apprentice is a trial member. They have access to the Apprentice forums and guild chat functions. Their main responsibility is to get to know the guild as well as let the guild get to know them. Their trial lasts for seven days. Once they have proven their dedication and loyalty to the guild, they will become a Legionnaire.
Legionnaire- Legionnaires are our core members. They have access to the members only forums as well as access to certain guild functions. These will be determined upon release of the game. They are able to nominate and vote on senators. Their focus is to help introduce any apprentices to the guild.
Optio- Sergeant in the guild. They are responsible for ensuring that Legionnaires and Apprentices are successfully performing their duties. Their main focus is to answer day to day questions a Legionnaire or Apprentice may have.
Centurion- Lieutenant in the guild. These low level officers have access to the officer’s forums. They are responsible for seeking out and recruiting new members. Their main focus is to resolve all disputes between all non-officer members. They are able to become a Signifier.
Prefect- Captain in the guild. Prefects will be specialists in different aspects of the game. These officers will have better than average knowledge in game specifics, such as crafting, PvE encounters, specific classes, etc. Questions regarding the inner-workings of the game as well as the guild will be available from a Prefect. Prefects are responsible for resolving any issues that either involves a Centurion or a Centurion is not able to resolve.
Legate- General in the guild. They are responsible for resolving disputes that either involves a Prefect or a Prefect is not able to resolve. They are official representatives of the guild; as such they are in charge when the Dux is not available. They work hand in hand with the Dux to create offensive and defensive strategies. They help the Dux place guild members in positions that best fill the needs of the guild as well as the needs/wants of the guild members. Their main focus is to seek out alliances with other guilds.
Dux- Guild Leader. The Dux is tasked with organizing the guild as a whole. His main responsibility is ensuring that the guild is working as a cohesive unit. He is open to any and all suggestions to develop the guild and has an open door policy. He works hand in hand with the Senate on matters that affect the entirety of the guild. He does not have the ability to vote for a senator nor can he be a senator. He works to improve relationships with other guilds. He works with the Legate to develop military strategies. He will resolve any issues that either involves a Legate or a Legate is unable to resolve. He works on improving relationships with other guilds in and out of alliances. He will resolve any issues that have to be resolved immediately or any issue that involves an alliance member.
Aquilifier- This is a special rank that any full-fledged member can obtain. They are the standard bearer. They will be chosen based off of their merits as a member and their ability to handle themselves in combat. Any member can nominate another member to be an Aquilifier. The Aquilifier is chosen by the Senate and the Dux.
Signifier- Treasurer. Any officer can be a Signifier. The Signifier is tasked with developing and implementing ways for the guild to generate money. They report directly to the Dux. Any officer can nominate another officer to become a Signifier. They are voted in by the Senate.
Senator- Senators are elected from the guild for a term of two months. Any full-fledged member can become a Senator. The senators will vote on any and all guild policy changes, vote Signifiers into and out of office, as well as discuss possible improvements within the guild. There will always be an even number of senators. A simple majority is required to make a change in the guild. In the event of a tie, the Dux will be the tie breaker.
War Council- Members of the War Council can be chosen from any rank in the guild. These members will be chosen by the Dux and the Legates. Any member that shows the ability to lead well or a keen sense of strategy will be invited into the war council. The war council will discuss offensive and defensive strategies as well as coordinate assaults on keeps and cities.
Promotions
Promotions will be based off of guild member performance. There is no set requirement to be promoted. Officers will discuss promotion candidates on the forums until there is a consensus. The member who is to be promoted will be asked if they accept. If the member declines, they will not be punished or demoted. They will be allowed to maintain their current rank. The guild will only be notified of a member accepting their new position.
Legions
Each legion will be made up of two cohorts. Each cohort will be made up of six people. Essentially, a Legion will be two full groups joined together in a War Band. Any officer will be able to lead a legion. Any member of the Legion leader thinks is qualified can lead the other cohort. Legions will be hand picked by their leaders. It will be up to the legion leaders to name their legion as well as determine the best mix of classes and members for balance.
Legions will be competing against one another for prestige and rewards from the guild. When we go to sack a city or keep, the legion that has the most kills or has accomplished the most will be rewarded. Rewards will vary based on how well the guild as a whole is doing. The reward will be broken down evenly between the legion members. The legion of the month will have a special webpage dedicated to them. The legion leaders will have a chance to write something to post on their page about their legion. Screenshots will be used to help determine kill count.
We will hire legions out as mercenaries to help generate money for the guild and guild members. If we are able to do this well, we won't have to dip into our pockets as much, or at all, to fund the guild. The Dux will personally work on getting assignments as well as make donations to the guild to keep the legions going. We will take on different types of jobs:
1) Protect keeps.
2) Assault keeps.
3) Bounty Hunting
4) War
5) Escort
Protecting and assaulting keeps is self explanatory. We will charge different rates for each tier on a per legion basis. However, we will not fully commit ourselves if we are holding or taking a keep for ourselves. We will only allocate those legions that we can spare.
Bounty Hunting- Seeking out and destroying specific Destruction guilds or players. Screenshots will be taken as proof of killing the bounty. We will charge based on the tier and number of heads to be taken. Discounts will be given for large groups.
War- Hiring a legion to help destroy a guild in combat. We will fight on the side of our customer. We will charge based on the tier.
Escort- Hiring a legion to defend players while they try to level in RvR areas. We will charge on a case by case basis.
20% of the money from the job will go to the guild. 10% will go into the coffers for the development of the guild. 10% will go into separate coffers for guild functions, such as rewards for Legion of the Month, Soldier of the Month, etc. Each legion will have their own forum where they can discuss their plans in private. The name of the forum will be the name of the legion. There will be a forum for job applications. We will develop a price list for the tiers. We will try to make ourselves marketable without making ourselves seem cheap.
Rivals
We have loosely established a rivalry with The Unholy Legions of Anti-Sanctus Chaotica. They are a rather large Destruction guild that, at its core, is similar to ours. Both guilds are structured and casual friendly. We will be choosing the same server as them. Whenever any member sees a member of The Unholy Legion, they are tasked with destroying them. If you are outnumbered, you should call for back-up. If back-up is not available, do not run. Do the best that you can to destroy them. We are going to earn their respect as a guild by defeating them in combat.
We are outnumbered at this moment. All we have on our side is our ability to work together as a cohesive unit, our determination and loyalty, our abilities to play our characters well, our pride as a guild, and our unwillingness to turn and flee any fight. We will never run from a fight, even if we are to be routed. We will stand our ground and fight to the last man. We give no quarter because we will not receive any.
Competitions
We will have several competitions within the guild to promote competitiveness and to have fun. They are:
Screenshot of the Week: Members will vote on the best screenshot for the week. The winner will receive a reward. The screenshot will be posted on the Screenshot of the Week webpage on our website.
Legion of the Month: The Legion that brings in the most business and does the best in our guild activities will receive a reward. A screenshot of the members will be posted on the Legion of the Month webpage on our website. The legion leaders will also be able to post a few words about their legion on the webpage.
Member of the Month: The member of the month will be selected by the officers based off of their contribution to the guild. This does not mean monetary contributions, however monetary contributions will be taken into consideration. Contributions can range from answering questions, to organizing raids or activities, or leading a unit into combat. Members can nominate another for the Member of the Month by mailing the name to an officer. The Member of the Month will have a screenshot of their character posted on the Member of the Month webpage on our website. They will be able to post something about themselves as well as post their character biography if they have one. The winner will receive a reward.
Best Biography: The member with the best biography will win a reward. A vote will take place bi-monthly to see who has the best character biography.
Kicking Ass; Taking Names: This will be a webpage dedicated to screenshots of the Destruction players that we have killed. Feel encouraged to post your screenshots. Duplicate kills may not be acceptable. This will depend on the size limitations we have on the webpage.
Chicken Raids: Once we have a large number of members that are max level, we will be organizing Chicken Raids on the low level destruction members. Screenshots will be taken and posted on the website. Let’s see how many destruction we can take down in our Chicken Zergs.
Other Activities: Other activities will be posted on the forums when they have been organized and developed. Feel free to post your ideas on the forums or talk with an officer. Officers will need to be involved only for the scheduling purposes. Any member can design a guild activity.
