Just saw this film yesterday and absolutely loved it. It really gave me a hankering for playing DAoC again for some reason, and it really got me thinking about how great an MMO set in the world of Beowulf would be. A good mix of historical fact and mythology (like DAoC really).
I've played pretty much every MMO on the planet, but in case I'm forgetting any and there are some that are similar to the setting of Beowulf out there, feel free to let me know!

Not really the same setting as Beowulf.
Plus it no longer exists.
My point exactly

Well Beowulf is an olf medieval anglo-saxon story. So Many MMORPGs will have some similar elements.
Shouldnt be too hard. Aoc as mentioned above perhaps (not too sure). DAOC also has a lot of lore.

I saw it too, and I was really disappointed. If you've read the book, the movie is really terrible, because it's not minor butchering, they really take a plasma torch to it. I'll agree, in and of itself, it was a good movie, but really, they butchered the storyline so badly, when they didn't really need to (Beowulf was exciting to begin with), and they turned Beowulf into such a flawed, fallible character that I was really angry towards the end.
SPOILERS AHEAD
They actually took out more violence than put in. Unferth was supposed to die. Grendel's mother was supposed to die. In the book, Beowulf physically tore Grendel's arm off with his bare hands. Beowulf was never seduced by Grendel's mother. He never knocked her up, either. The dragon wasn't his son. Beowulf didn't kill the dragon, Wiglaf did. Wiglaf was much younger than Beowulf, and was not there from the beginning. The list goes on.
If you're going to see it, see it in 3-D, because the fight sequences are really good, but if you're going to see it because you're a fan of the book, do yourself a favor and don't, because it will only infuriate you.
Fair enough, I'm quite glad I didn't read the book then. I mean, I did read it back in school, but that was around 10 years ago. Having entered the theatre with no expectations, I was more than pleasently surprised. I'd go as far to say it was one of the most enjoyable cinema visits I've had since... LOTR.
Age of Canon is the only game that is similar to Beowulf, DAoC I doubt it because it's so old, but yet I say both.

I enjoyed the movie, and I will admit it was really enjoyable. But the changes prevented me from enjoying it 100%. I enjoyed the LOTR movies, and felt they were very loyal to the books, just minus the heavy lore that Tolkien liked to truckload in, and that made sense. What they cut out of Beowulf didn't make sense to me, but I suppose it's all well and good. Probably not going to buy this one when it comes to DVD, however.I thought the movie was very entertaining however the sound quality wasn't very good. I dont know if it was the movie itself or the theater.
So many MMOs already contain those elements thought that I doubt a Beowulf MMO would even cause a blip on the radar.

I didn't even know there was a book, just the old danish/english legend written on that manuscript thousands of years ago.
I agree they did a horrible job on the beuwulf story but if you want to see the real good version of the story the movie is called beuwulf and grendal its by far the best movie version and 13th warrior is also based of beuwulf which is also a good movie but i recommend to go buy beuwulf and grendal u won't be dissapointed.
lool , they made beowulf the game but mmo ? i dont think so it is good idea.
