Changes since release? Seriously? That is 6 years of updates including, but not limited to:

    • Fourteen new classes (originally only WAR MNK THF WHM BLM and RDM where jobs -- and for those who don't know the cannon those are the orignal 6 jobs from the orignal Final Fantasy)
    • Level Cap from 50 to 75
    • Equipment/Spells for the new jobs and levels
    • Missions:
      • 10 New Missions in each of the 3 starting cities.
      • Multiple Missions for each of the expansions: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Aurah
      • Currently ongoing missions for the newest expansiton: Wings of the Goddess.
    • Dozens of new breeds of monsters
    • Inclusion of Raid zones: Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, Ejh-notgonnatryandspell
    • Real Time mob raids: Beseiged and Campagin
    • In game PVP games: Ballista and Breinen
    • Chocobo breeding / Racing / Betting
    • An up and coming new Sync system which will allow higher levels to exp with lower levels (read the other forums for that argument)
    • Gilsellers and then a task force to eliminate gilsellers
    • New high level "Bosses" that play on the fact that people obessess about MMOs and make them play for 18 hours straight (I seriously thing this is a way for a functioning member of society to kull the weak)

And more than that. All in all I like the game and think it is great, need to escape for a while here and there, but I think it is worth playing.

      - Best part of FFXI is the fact you can switch between jobs on the fly.

      - Level cap seems the norm for MMO's

     -  dont see the point but ok.

     - Missions 90% that require you to have parties or alliances to beat. An good luck finding people willing to waste their time and day on it..

     - Same image of mob same color of mob thru 75% of the world. WOTG gave us diff looking mobs.

     - Raid zones you have to be at least 65 to enter. An if your a DD 75 to be effective. Not to mention you have to be a certain rank for the Dyn and Limbus.

     - In game PvP is a joke, nobody does them anymore. An its not like others where you can attack aperson with a flag up. Why people mention it is beyond me.

     - Breeding that takes forever to get your own chobi to ride. Racing and betting that seem to be rigged for the player to lose.

     - probably wont fix the seek issues for most of the players.

     - bout time..

     - I dunno if 18+ hour bosses is something we should be proud of having. Isnt A.V bad enough without something coming along thats far far worse.

I think you forget one of the biggest changes was that it went to the 360' platform and brought in more console players that had never played Final Fantasy at all. Many of those who I know playing on the 360 do not even know what we are talking about when we speak about the rest of the series and how the jobs, chocobos or just anything worked. This on thing change face of the people who play the game and have been the catalyst for many of the on going changes. It basically moved FFXI out of the closed world of Playstation into the main stream without really 1 line of code at first.

Answer is yes, this is not the Final Fantasy that you 'dad' played but a thriving, more up to date and content rich MMO then most out there now.

I strongly agree with the posts made above. Final Fantasty XI has changed in multiple aspects, and is a game that I continue to love and play. Join us brother!

FFXI was my first MMO, and to me it was magic.

Of course, I was a huge FF fan and was drawn into the world pretty easily. I really enjoyed playing with people from Japan, as well. The thing that made me stop playing (about the time that WOW and EQ2 debuted) was the forced grouping.

I think though, if someone can deal with that, FFXI is a great MMO that should be given a chance by everyone.

Forced grouping wasn't in FFXI from the start?  I definitely came at the wrong time. I couldn't find anyone to group with and I'll gladly solo if it's a game I like and can get somewhere. I finally chucked it after 4 attempts and my discs met mr. garbage man....

I would love to play this game, I really get the most fullfilment out of grouping. However, I have limited time and at the moment the time is going into EQ2.

FFXI always has had forced grouping since day one. It's the reason I left. However, since they added the level synch and increased experience for lower difficulty enemies, I'm interested in possibly trying it out again.

The level sync is awesome, but they still need to tweak it.  If you are wearing equipment with negative and positive stat mods, the positive mods negate to zero after just a few lower levels while the negative stats are ALL 100% still applied...

Watching a couple of LS members, 1 wearing decked out lvl 75 armor and fully upgraded relic weapon, was level synced to level 33 in garlainge citadel, practically any armor was better than the godly armor at that level, but the relic was average damage compared to the best weapons at that level.

The level sync makes LFP go a LOT faster.  Its very nice on parties where 1 member levels and nobody else is close to leveling, he/she is the highest level, level sync them back down and you're set.

Level sync for Imp parties can be insane, level sync to level 67, get a good weapon and its possible to get 500 xp per kill without any rings at all.  At 69 the xp goes to crap as its now 150-200

Leson learned from Level sync, you will want to have a weapon from that lower level you are playing at, otherwise your damage will be nerfed

Its incredable for Level cap fights now as you don't have to worry about searching all around for armor to wear, wear whatever you want , just be aware that the stat boosts fade away very quickly if you are mor than 1 or 2 levels from the armor's level
