After feedback from the community:
Role-playing Rules
Introduction The world of Age of Conan is a rich and atmospheric representation of Robert E. Howards creation. We tell the stories that players can experience and hopefully remember on their way through the game. The most memorable game play experience though comes to live when a player does not only experience a story, but is the one that creates the story, is part of the story and fills the world with more live than any quest can ever do. That is role-playing in Age of Conan. To make that experience as fun as possible, we need a common rule base to start from. That rule-set is not supposed to support rule-griefing or nitpickiness. Role-playing cannot be created through rules; it is a creation of the community that forms a living and breathing world on the server. The guidelines presented here are just the most basic agreement anyone has to sign when they join the Role-playing Server. It’s a guideline of behavior that should help anyone on the server to take part in role-playing in a way that does not interfere with the fun of other role-players. These rules form an "outer border" that should not be crossed. Staying farther away from the outer border does not empower a player to criticize a player that pushes closer to that border, as long as the player does not cross the border. It’s very important to realize that role-playing though is all about tolerance. Even breaking one of the rules listed here does not mean another player has the right to harass the rule-violating player. Be tolerant, everyone makes mistakes. Even if someone violates a certain rule, it does not always mean that this person is a bad role-player. A GM can help the player in a certain situation of rule violation. The player should never personally take up the task of a rule enforcer. This only creates problematic situations and it will very often end up in a bunch of people pointing fingers, which is a situation a GM cannot really solve. Role-playing in Age of Conan can be a rough task to bear, a rough world, with rough and deadly consequences. Prepare for the most brutal role-playing experience you've ever had in an MMORPG.
These guidelines define the kind of names that are forbidden on the role-playing server. All guidelines apply to exact matches and masked approaches (Gonan, Konan, Faminee). If you stumble upon a player that violated the guidelines then petition a GM to change that name. Futuristic names (Robotkiller, Powerman, Coolboy, Synthetic etc.)
Communication rules In this category we define the basic behavior rules in the different communication channels of the game. As with the naming rules we do not define HOW you should behave but rather what is the “no-no” behavior. As the definition of what is "good role-playing" varies greatly from community to community and even from player to player. The community is encouraged to define their own more elaborate rules, but only these rules listed here are going to be enforced by GMs. Remember: It’s easier to just actively live a rule and encourage others to join in than forcing them to do so. All standard non-harassment rules apply to all these channels listed here. These rules are an extension of the standard rules. Area Channels (Cimmeria, Aquilonia, Stygia) & OOC - Zonechannel
Behavior rules There are only smaller selections of behavior rules, as behavior is next to impossible to create exact rules on, that are valid across the board, without interfering with another rule or behavior which is perfectly fine (aka the special condition nr. 667). General Rule If someone harasses you, try to move away from the spot, do not get into a fight or overly heated discussion, and simply stay in-character.
There is a lot of room for misunderstandings on an RP server, due to the complex nature of role-playing and the many different styles connected to it. These suggestions are not rules of behavior just friendly suggestions how you can avoid certain kinds of problematic situations. Please take them into considerations. Here are some suggestions for non-experienced RP-player:

Pretty good ruleset i think

And they continue to leave the Cultural PvP servers in limbo.
Great job failcom!
it took them this long to release that??????????????
wtf, i could have made this list the freaking day before it was released.
Seriously, if it takes them this long to come up with just this, i have no hope for any real content to be added to the game.
Huh!
Isn't this a bit like trying to shut the stable door 3 months after the horse has bolted?
I played on an RP Server & there were frequent flaming wars in the OOC channel about what names & chat behaviour was considered acceptable. To be honest, a lot of the time it was the more militant RPers that were being unreasonable & harassing other fairly amiable players who they took exception to, but if these rules had been available from the start it would have avoided a lot of issues.
Whilst the rules look reasonable, they probably could have been compiled in one afternoon over a pub lunch, so why the 3 month delay? Making a big deal of releasing them now just looks unprofessional.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
Its too Late AmazingAvery the stock price is down to 9$ a share and still droping, Funcom is just milking what costumer support the have left, the game will not be supported for very much longer and you folks who stand by them even know it.

Thanks for the post, appreciated.
LOL, RP servers, I can hear it now "Hello........Hello?.........is any one else here?
And saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that, with it, thou mayest blow thine enemies to tiny bits....in thy mercy."
Indeed Avery, the ruleset is fine ... but I recall reading a very similar declaration this summer.
But what is the point of this "new" document... have the 'GM'-related staff decided to actually enforce some framework for player-to-player interaction (apart from randomly banning players that engage in PvP based on "observation", often ill seeded random at that)?
You must forgive my skepticism, this is after all the same company that openly supported the ??????????? ????????? [apparently this forum does not support Cyrillic, should state 'October revolution'] on the EU-servers ... asking profoundly insightful questions like "Well, any players should be able to speak their native language ... if not it's fascism correct?".
._.
That server is pretty much dead man, my main alt was on that server. The rp pvp server is actually one of the more populated, might have to roll a new main there if Deathwhisper continues to dwindle.

Area Channels (Cimmeria, Aquilonia, Stygia) & OOC - Zonechannel
Non-game related conversation is prohibited in these channels. OOC (Out-Of-Character) is allowed on discussions that are on-topic (discussion about present weather, cars, movies, etc is prohibited).

Im all for RP servers but Ive never seen a MMO carry it out that strictly on an official lvl.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
/sigh
I miss Cimmeria. Wish they would have had these rules while I was playing.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
no one gives a shit about role playing
funcrap sure have their priorities straight... first more voice overs now this
what a joke of a company
no one believes the world is round.
Just because I say it doesn't mean its true. There are people who like roleplaying and roleplaying servers. Just because you do not like does not mean its the golden rule.

I'm sure the highly skilled, professional and polite AoC GM's will enforce these rules with a high degree of customer service and excellence.
i can see people getting banned for making typos

sorry but all the people that left the game didn't give 2 shits about RPing and wanted real content in the game
Personally, I find RP'ers a bit creepy when I team with them in MMOs, but to each their own. I imagine this is warmly welcomed by the hardcore RP'ers though. Even though it seems that since no programming, or real resources were required to do this, that there is no excuse for it not being implemented at release.
One other point, having FC GMs be responsible for enforcement is going to lead to issues, because AoC (IMO) has the terrible GMs
Maybe it will work out though. Be interesting to see how things shake out.
EDIT:Posting from my PS3, paragraphs don't seem to work.
At last, this particular nazi-roleplayer has found a company willing to stomp on idiots who couldnt have an imagination if they tried. Wewt.
That having been said, I hope the game gets back on its feet. If this kind of stuff keeps up, I might have to actually buy it
its funny but all the people complaining about the GMs...well.. on Aquilonia the EU RP PVP server, they are fantastic. I mean they are fast and nice people, especially Jaestar
However in one conversation abut griefing, he agreed that he thinks the rules suck (lack of them) and has often brought it up at their meetings. Seriously the game has 0 relevant rules when it comes to harrassment (verbal and long winded singling out for killing) the game was probably killed by the pvp in white sands (wtf, lvl 25...smooth move)
however i havnt hit 80 yet so unlike the bum rushers i havnt burnt all the content. however that doesnt mean it doesnt stink of th lack of it. for a game made entirely of instances their really isnt very many instances
also Aquilonia has a very brimming and active population. just tonight there was a great festival with whores, events, races, so much fun, and so many people throughout the evening. yeah lack of contents sucks, but RP content is the don
Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!
Can funcom get any more embarassing? Why would they release that now? The game was released 5 months ago and they are just now releasing the rules??????????????? wtf!
You cant have the name MasterBlaster???? Jeeez.
Hi, Enigma.
I have been there when GMs Banned, Changed Names, Reprimanded, and otherwise took care of biz on a RP server.
Where, you ask?
On the FV Roleplay server in EQ1
It even had different play rulesets, enforced by the game code.
All changed now, of course.
But back in the day, it was THE place to Roleplay.
Good Hunting
masterblaster was a fun game
masterblaster was a fun game
I LOVED MB when I was a kid.
"And in other breaking news....
Funcom listens to its customers 4 months after release.
Now back to Tits Mcgee in the studio."
Oh did they come up with a channel for GM's to cyber so they dont clog up the RP channels? Just curious
Fungerer som det skal
