Get friends and join groups that do a lot of unofficial stuff. The official content is quite boring, after all.
The Babes of War on Freedom usually do a lot of unofficial events and are very good at it, in my opinion. They would be a good choice for you if you really want to come back.
However, CoH is an aging game and will possibly be replaced by Champions anyways, so play this or the waiting game. Your choice...
Unless you want to try out EVE Online; which is the only MMOG I think is worth a monthly fee at the moment.
Get yourself into a Super Group or Villain Group m8, most have Group events happening each week, i also know of a Costume contest that happens at least 2x a week on the Defiant server under statue of Atlas
Well I play on virtue right now hek im still trying to find the right at for me I have such a complex personality, I think the ats on villians side are better but cant get into playing redside.
My real life friends arent into these kinds of games sadly, so I guess all I can do is find a good super group well thanks everyone, eve I may try.
Only cure for the generic content problem that I know of is to group a lot.
Join Repeat Offenders or something. Also don't run so many paper/radio missions see if you can get some people you know who like story arcs or task forces.

Heh I think this is the first time I have ever quoted myself.
In case you do not know this. Repeat Offenders a specific sort of "theme" group that often happens in CoH often on random servers. Usually organized via the CoX forums. Repeat Offenders specifically takes all Defender teams and uses them offensively.
Alot of times what these people do is someone comes up with some kind of "super team" concept that they like, for example of all ice controllers or whatever, and then they post the idea on the forum get a list of people who would be interested and then agree upon a server make a supergroup expressly for this super team concept and then the entire super group sort of levels together.
Some of these are sort of on the fly just for fun sort of thing. Others like Repeat Offenders is sort of their main thing and less of structured or specific idea behind.
I would suggest getting involved in something like that.
gestalt11 has a good explanation of what I would say more generally. I think one way to keep it interesting is to find non-traditional ways of doing things. Lots of different groups like running TFs with just defenders, as he as mentioned.
But many far more random groups like to do similar challenges - I know all-Stalker LRSF teams have run on serveral servers well before the recent buff. And they did that specifically in reaction to all the people doing it the "obvious" way and not wanting Stalkers.
I do pickup groups all the time, and like to see how I can vary depending on what the strengths and weaknesses of the group are. But my personal preference is seeing how *fast* I can do things, because that always adds a challenge. Not even specifically leveling up in hours or anything that broad. But I have a record of 18:22 on the KHTF, 15:30 on the Eden Trial (back when it was bugged so you could cheat past the mold wall), 32:40 on Cap SF (should be able to do that much better). And in line with my first comment, I never insist on a particular make up to do it.
And even when I'm not timing myself, I pride my leadership on being fast so the team is always busy. No pause between groups, minimal time between missions. And chatting between throwing punches, if you type fast. I try to make it a very active experience so you can't get bored with it. I think that fits the style of CoH better than a lot of games too. It's a fast-paced MMO with lots of enemies, fast missions, and speedy travel.
And yet, I too take time off now and again. Just this week in fact I felt like it was time for a little break from the game. But I'll be back in it soon enough as always happens.
Doing TF's/SF's in a speedy manner is really fun although I do enjoy running them regular. A group of friends and I do a bunch of different ones each week like, such as LGTF and Ice Mistral in 45 minutes. Also, we do ITF's extremely fast with our best time of 22:55.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Sadly, there is nothing you can do. I play for one month. I burn out. I let my account sit for 3 months. I resubscribe when I get an urge to crack skulls, cusotmize, and keybind.
I can never find a low key guild that is active. Most guilds in this game are silent and dead. The major guilds are active but the players are WAY too overpowered for me to have fun. these guys run through a level 50 instance like it was level 2. Even their low level alts are ridiculously powerful. So big guilds are really no fun for me, because they make everything too easy when I team with them.
I've yet to partake in a base raid. I never got into a PvP team. I never got interested in PvP when I painfully found out that EVERYONE uses only super speed, web grenades, teleport foe, stealth, energy blast, energy melee, and super strength.
So I just PuG my way through the game. Edit my character so his keybinds are more dynamic for Roleplay. Update profiles. Kill things. Then cancel and repeat in 3 months time.
lol thats wat i do.. i play for about 2 months... then leave for about a month.. then i crave to go back!! i cant stay away fromt his game... i have 1 lvl 50, 1 lvl 42, 2 lvl 32's, a couple of 20's, and some lowbies lol.. of course im broke and cant buy that stupid pre-paid card lol... o my account is sitting and i wanna play it so badly.
I think there are a lot of players for whom CoX is the one MMO they keep coming back to again and again, but only play for a month or two. While you're into it, it's the most addictive combat of any MMO out there, the most spectacular and fun, especially in big teams; but the repetitiveness of the map layouts eventually gets boring again (not the tilesets and missions per se, I don't think they're actually any less varied than other MMOs, it's the fact that there are only a few map layouts for each type of mission that makes the game feel more repetitive than it actually is). So then you unsubscribe and play your other favourite MMO.
But then at some point, the memories come back, and you start thinking about this great but flawed MMO again. Perhaps you have an idea for a character, or you just remember what fun it was playing one of your toons, and get the itch to play it again.
For this reason, I think CoX is always going to be around. It's not like other MMOs and lacks a few things, but has its own special charms that keep bringing you back.
Any suggestions? The content is so repetitive but I love everything else about it I just dont know what to do.
Do what you have been doing... and what many of us do - play for a month or two and leave again for six months.
The game is small, the missions repetative, but the teaming dynamics are the best in the industry. That is why I come back; and likely why you come back too.
Games that have come out since are ALL, every last one of them, geared toward simplified nintendo style, linear, console games... they just happen to be on a computer and open for more players, but that is what has become of the market.
I remember when I was beta testing CoH and thought, "Godz, this thing is so tiny and the powers so few, and the missions so identical... it will never make it." Now, the sad state of the gaming world is that this one seems to offer complex battles compaired to the 'new' games offered today.
Sad direction the MMORPGs have taken.

I think your right, sadly im using an old computer now I moved in with my gf and dont use my roomates computer anymore, anyways I may end up getting a decent computer and play coh casually since im back into console again wii, ds, ps2 for right now.
Yes. The missions are repetitive and gameplay is simple but CoH is still one of my favorites. These things do not have to be complex to be fun. Simple goals, cool powers, ability to play with friends = fun IMHO.
So very true. I have left and come back 3-4x now. Played from release to the ED fiasco. Came back for COV. PLayed it through a couple times. Quit for a long stretch. Came back when VEATS were released. Got 1of each to 50, quit again.
It just gets so bloody repetative after a month or 2 of playing. After 4 lv50 heros and 4 lv50 villians, bleh. And the total lack of anything to do with level cap toons irritates me. Other than influence farming to fund new alts they just sit there collecting dust.

I suggest recruiting teams where 1 or 2 members are +3 or 4 your lvl and do their missions on invince. Lotta fun, just recruit right.
